Season over for Samuel :evil:

Inter cannot celebrate the derby too much, as Walter Samuel has been diagnosed with a torn knee ligament and could be out for the season.

The defender was stretchered off in obvious pain during today’s 2-1 victory over Milan after he slipped in the penalty area.

Originally it was hoped he had only sprained his left knee, but tests have now shown a lesion to the anterior cruciate ligament.

The Argentine will require surgery to correct the problem and it is highly unlikely he will recover in time to play again this term.

It is another heavy blow for Inter, who must already do without Olivier Dacourt for the campaign and could lose Dejan Stankovic for three months if he too requires surgery on a recurring heel injury.

Luis Figo and Patrick Vieira hope to be back in action soon after long-term lay-offs.

Vieira nears Inter return

Inter midfielder Patrick Vieira is close to returning from injury and plans to be back on top form for the European Championship.

The French international has been plagued by injury problems this season and has only managed to make one appearance for the Nerazzurri so far.

However, that could be set to change as Vieira is expected to be back in full training when the team heads to Dubai for their winter training camp ahead of a return to action against Siena.

Elano Is Mancini’s First Choice – Report
Manchester City star Elano is the primary transfer target of Inter Milan Coach Roberto Mancini, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport.


The Nerazzurri are virtually certain to purchase a midfielder during the January transfer window as they are currently in the midst of an injury crisis.



Olivier Dacourt will probably be ruled out for the rest of the season, Dejan Stankovic may require an operation, Patrick Vieira has barely featured due to constant fitness problems, while Luis Figo is recovering from a broken leg.



Despite this long list of sidelined players, the Nerazzurri have coped admirably and go into the winter break seven points clear at the top of Serie A.



Nevertheless the ‘Gazzetta’ claims that Brazilian star Elano is on their shopping list in January.



The 26-year-old only signed for Man City in the summer from Shakhtar Donetsk, however he has been a revelation, and has been the crucial factor in The Blues fine start to the Premiershit season.



The playmaker is a free-kick specialist, possesses excellent technical ability, while he can also fill in on either the right or left of midfield if required.



It remains to be seen whether City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson would be prepared to sell his star man, although given his excellent relationship with Mancini, anything is possible.

Why Should We Sign An Italian? – Moratti Blasts
Inter President Massimo Moratti has admitted that one or two signings will probably be made during the January transfer window, however they will not be Italian.

The Nerazzurri have been criticised heavily for the lack of home-grown players in their squad, as they currently have just Marco Materazzi, Francesco Toldo and Paolo Orlandoni, the latter two of whom are reserve goalkeepers.



A spate of injuries at the club have left the normally solid Inter squad looking rather thin, and Walter Samuel was the latest to pick up an injury during Sunday’s Milan derby.

Roberto Mancini verrà accontentato. Massimo Moratti, infatti, ieri nell’assemblea dei soci si è impegnato a rafforzare la squadra con l’innesto di un centrocampista. «L’infortunio di Samuel - ha dichiarato il presidente nerazzurro - costringerà Chivu a tornare in difesa quindi siamo entrati nell’ordine di idee d’intervenire». Moratti è esperto d’interventi. Ieri ad esempio ha dimostrato ancora una volta di avere molto a cuore le sorti della sua società. Non solo Cruz e Ibra. E' esploso anche un altro amore a tinte nerazzurre, che necessita di un ritocchino al contratto...

Presto arriverà il rinnovo di Maicon.

L'arrivo a Milano un anno e mezzo fa, in punta di piedi. Poi la crescita, continua e progressiva. Fino ad entrare nel cuore dei tifosi dell'Inter, ad essere considerato pedina imprescindibile dello scacchiere di Roberto Mancini.

E' la storia di Douglas Maicon, uno dei simboli del nuovo corso nerazzurro. Un po' a sorpresa, perchè nessuno si aspettava un simile rendimento da quel terzino brasiliano arrivato dal bistrattato campionato francese. E invece...

Invece Maciste si è piazzato sulla fascia destra e da lì non l'hanno più schiodato. Fatta eccezione per il turnover, of course. Potente in fase di spinta, attento in copertura. Praticamente perfetto, al punto da ingolosire anche le grandi d'Europa.

I trenta milioni offerti dal Chelsea sul finire dello scorso campionato non sono un segreto. Così come non lo è l'appetibilità di Maicon sul mercato delle cifre importanti, quello riservato ai club più prestigiosi del continente.

Ecco perchè in via Durini considerano i tempi maturi per il rinnovo. L'attuale accordo, con scadenza fissata al 2010, verrà prolungato al 2013. Con il consueto ritocchino al salario. Ostacoli in vista? Praticamente nessuno.
