Excuse me for a second gents while I talk about Roma.

Whats da bleedin craic are we gonna buy Cicinho or wha...? I have to say, I have never been as enthuisastic at the prospect of getting him before as some are, but now that we (supposedly) have money to spend he would be a good signing, I think. That and because I actually want to see Rosella actually spend the fecking money. The thing is though would we sign both Cicinho and Modesto?

Looking at the squad as it stands now (which has been updated on asroma.it ), purely in terms of depth and overall positions covered, I think full-back is the only position which needs some attention (I still wish for us to splash out on Rosina or Quags, of course, but wish in one hand, shit in the other...).

Also, its possible that Bright and Alvarez could leave, probably on loan again, but I think we should keep at least one of them for added stength in depth.

So we definitely need an additional left-full, that goes without saying. This will probably be Modesto, but are also being linked with Dede, but he will probably cost too much. Modesto will probably cost around the €3m mark, give or take a few potatoes, so that will leave approximately €9m in the kitty taking into to account the funds from Chivu's sale. This should be more than enough to secure Cicinho, and still have enough left over for Rosella to add a new layer or two, but it remains doubtful if we are willing to do it. If Cicinho does arrive, however, then we could loan out Rosi for some much needed experience, and Cassetti would be useful back-up for several position as he's quite versatile. So its just really these defensive postions which need to be looked at, otherwise the depth and size of the squad is not to bad, altough the quality in some areas perhaps could be better.

Shieldypoo, I think you'll find that we're doing our best not to talk about things Roma because that way we can defer getting too excited about the headline over on ilromanista until those developments are truly confirmed. I'm just awaiting the retraction which will come at about 4:15 this evening from Amantino's agent: "no, we've not reached an agreement yet, that's rubbish, but we're working towards it" etc etc. One is wary of being too enthusiastic too swiftly.

As I see it, Brighi, Alvarez, and Nonda are all likely to be shipped on one way or another. I'm not saying I'm desperately keen to see them moved on; it's just that I can't see us going into the season with a squad of many more than 23. In such terms, of course, it's also easy to see Rosi and Okaka being loaned out. I should think that Spags is more likely to want to have about 23 senior players with guys like Freddi and Marsili and Okaka moving in between the two squads as required. So, too, I should think that were Cicinho really to come - or Modesto AND Dede, say - then we would see Cassetti also being moved on. It is in large part just a question of contract expenditure - I don't know how much Cassetti and Brighi are on, say, or Nonda, but if you take tax into account by doubling it, then I should guess the three of them would probably cost us at least 6 mil in wages for the season which is a fair whack if they're only third-choice, as it were. Perhaps Brighi will stay as the sixth central player to cover those three positions, but I can't see it makes sense to hang on to Uncle A or to Cassetti and Cicinho or even to Nonda as third-choice striker, even though I still suspect he's got a bit to offer.

I cant see Alvarez staying and i highly doubt Nonda will agree to stay as a third choice striker. As thigns stand i'd like to keep Brighi and rosi. I think Rosi currently has a bit to offer the roma first team and gets a reasonable amount of time on the pitch at times. But again, whether or not we keep rosi would probably depend on if we get just modesto, or plz god plz modesto and cicinho.

Whats the news on the grapevine on cicinho... his tantrum really couldnt have come at a better time for us really. The downside to that however is, he made it clear he wants to play on the right.

So apparently,Roma are officially after DEDE!! The sporting director of Borussia Dortmund has said that they received an offer for the player,but it was somewhat short from what they expect.They do not want to sell for less than 10M euros,whereas apparently,Roma has offered 6M.Why would you want to but a 29 year old defender who is unproven in Italy,and to a certain extent also in Europe,for such amounts?
Has the friendly match between the 2 teams of a week ago,something related to this?
