At the moment, yeah probably, say about 10m. But in two or three seasons, if he delivers and grows into the defender we expect him to be, he'd easily be worth that €30m. Himself and Rugani are the U21 CB pairing and the best two young Italian defenders around so he'll likely be a future Italian regular, as well. Thats all if he continues to grow and improve, of course – he's only had one top season at Sampdoria, so yes its a big risk by Milan to spend that much on him. But also stupid to sell him for that, too.
And its all irrelevant, anyway, he's a Romanista (lots of people on twitter objecting to that and saying he's a laziale, with nothing to really back it up, which is annoying).
Is he not actually a Cesena fan? That's what I heard, anyway. The Byzantine traitor can feck off up north for all I care. I shudder to think what Camillus would make of him.
How much is Marquinhos worth these days? If Romagnoli's 'worth' 10 mil today that's a function of the odds on how good he might become (and so on and so forth). The last time I saw him regularly he had to be hidden out at left-back and was labouring even there.
This is clearly a man with Roman blood running in his veins:
Dzeko?
Nice knowing you guys. Tom, send me a pm with your information. I know you sent me something a while back but I am not sure if that was before your move. Same for you, Edzo. I will send you all my email and contact information. Edzo, since I do not have the ability to do so, please close out my account and block me as a user here in 7 days. That way, any temptation to visit will be abated. Pallotta and the rest can burn in hell. He can take this foreign squad back to Boston as far as I'm concerned. I am so angry that I would not give a rat's ass if Roma under this ownership falls to Serie B. In fact, I am praying for the demise of this club under Sabatini, Garcia and Pallotta. Mother fucking, shit bag, sons of fucking whores. I curse them all.

Which is worse - the sale of Aquilani when the club needed the pennies or the sale of Romagnoli when it doesn't?
The trouble with Sabreteeny as I see it is that his model is only a business one, so that he's always looking out for players whom he can sell for more in due course. That's not a terrible business model, I guess, but it does seem likely to emphasise the parts rather than their sum. Perhaps it's Garcia's contribution to keep an eye on the latter and I guess Dzeko doesn't entirely fit the pattern, though it's certainly true his stocks were at their lowest in recent years at this point. So Holebas goes for a gain of 1 or 1.5 mil; so Yanga-Mbiwa seems set to go for a profit of a couple of mil. That's not bad business, of course, and neither is a player to whom any of us are especially attached (derby-winning goal not quite withstanding), but it doesn't add up to the building of a team, of players who know each other and their systems. Or, at least, it would seem not to from the outside, but perhaps some of those subtleties are overplayed and vary rather less from club to club than one might think. The other - and, for us, sharper - problem with Sabreteeny's approach is that it has its eye on the shortish term. He isn't going to be at the club in 8 years' time (what's the longest he's actually ever spent in a single role?), and so preserving the culture of the club isn't important. Or to put that another way, it means building a club around players isn't his way of doing things - if someone wants to come in and 'over-pay' for Pjanic or Strootman or Iturbe, they'll be off for sure - why the hell not pocket the extra 10 mil and use it to invest in the next little project? Romanisti, though, will be here in 8 years' time (including gio, of course), and that means they need a club with a sustaining heart and soul. The Romanisti that really matter to Pallotta, though, are those who aren't yet Roma fans - they're the ones to be won over. Those who are already loyal and long-suffering tifosi can be taken for granted by owners who don't live in the city. It's not quite true that everything has its price.
Thats true, Tom, good post. Sabatini is direttore sportivo, a business man, and he is doing his job and doing what is expected of him, and when he signs young talents people get excited and then sometimes when he sells them people praise him. He's making money, great. We've been fortunate to hang on to Pjanic – players like him are rare – but we'll do well to do the same next summer. And Manolas will be next.
So, from Pallotta's and the board's point of view he is doing a great job, while trying to make us competitive. But that last part is the tricky part. How can a team be competitive when it changes so much? How does the manager put up with it? Here we are, less than two weeks before the start of the new season, about to sell two of our centre-backs, who will obviously need to be replaced (or at least one and Capradossi), and still doubts over the futures of Ashley Cole and Maicon. Its not exactly ideal to have next to no time for your defence to gel, is it?
You also wonder if there has to be someone else at the club who calls the shots and has more of an input in the direction its going and more say on all the player transactions. I guess that could be Baldissoni's role to a degree but what does he know? Or maybe its Zanzi's, but all he seems to do is buy shiny new suits and look as corporate as possible for all the important photos. The president and the board are based in Boston, but is there something missing, someone representing the club on the ground in Roma?
NEWS AS ROMA
