Inter confirm Felipe talks

Roberto Mancini confirmed Inter will “consider” signing free agent Dias Felipe, who walked out on Parma.

The defender terminated his contract with Parma by mutual consent, as nobody at the club has been paid since July 2014.

“Will we sign Felipe? We’ll see what happens, it depends on the Europa League,” Mancini told reporters after today’s 4-1 win over Atalanta.

Now Sky Sport Italia claim Felipe will undergo a medical with Inter staff on Tuesday.

He could train with the Nerazzurri for a week before Mancini decides whether or not to sign him.

Fredy Guarin scored two and helped create another two as Inter ended their Atalanta hoodoo with a 4-1 triumph.

Roberto Mancini was the last Inter Coach to win this fixture seven years ago, as the Stadio Azzurri d’Italia is something of a taboo in this Lombardy Derby. Mauro Icardi was ruled out by a stomach bug, joining Yuto Nagatomo, Jonathan, Marco Andreolli and Danilo D’Ambrosio on the sidelines. Atalanta were angry after losing a 3-2 thriller at the death to Fiorentina.

It took just over a minute to break the deadlock in Bergamo, as Fredy Guarin was nudged in the back by Giampaolo Bellini. The referee opted for a penalty, which Xherdan Shaqiri converted despite Marco Sportiello getting a hand to it.

Mauricio Pinilla nearly drew level straight away, his header skimming the upright with Samir Handanovic beaten. The Chilean horribly missed an open goal on 18 minutes, losing his footing to balloon a Davide Zappacosta cross over from six yards.

Atalanta were in control and got a deserved equaliser. Pinilla knocked down a long ball, as the Inter defence gave Maxi Moralez all the time he needed to control and shoot past Handanovic.

Guarin had earned the penalty and he restored Inter’s advantage. The Colombian won back possession in midfield, surged forward and curled a great left-foot finish into the far bottom corner.

Luca Cigarini’s strike was crucially charged down by Gary Medel, but in first half stoppages Maxi Moralez suddenly pulled up with a suspected thigh strain.

Atalanta foolishly went down to 10 men, as Yohan Benalouane was booked, then continued arguing right in the referee’s face and eventually the official flashed a second yellow card.

Rodrigo Palacio horribly ballooned over the bar with no offside flag to save his blushes, but Guarin confirmed his excellent performance with a precise curler into the top corner from outside the box.

Sportiello avoided a fourth goal from Shaqiri, but Palacio got it with a bizarre piece of luck. La Trenza ran on to a Guarin through ball and Guglielmo Stendardo’s attempted clearance hit Palacio’s shin to ricochet into the net.

Inter win Viareggio tournament

Inter’s youth team have won the Coppa Carnevale, beating Verona in the prestigious youth tournament held each year in Viareggio.

The win represents the Nerazzurri’s seventh win in the competition, taking them into third place behind Juventus and Fiorentina, who are joint-second on eight wins, and Milan who have lifted the cup nine times.

A late goal from Ghanaian right-back Bright Gyamfi was enough to give the Beneamata a 2-1 win after Pierluigi Cappelluzzo had cancelled out Federico Bonazzoli’s opener.

First team Coach Roberto Mancini was present for the victory.

Shaqiri proving his worth

Xherdan Shaqiri signed for €12m in January but is already living up to expectations at Inter, writes Varun Mathure after watching him at Celtic Park.

It was towards the end of the summer transfer window in August last year that reports first surfaced of Inter’s rumoured interest in Xherdan Shaqiri. The 23-year-old was coming off the back of a successful World Cup, but he was deemed surplus to requirements at Bayern Munich.

However, nothing came of it and the player’s agent was quoted expressing interest in a move to Italy and in particular, Juventus. So, when the winter market opened up the former FC-Basel man was hot in demand across not just the peninsula, but around Europe.

Liverfekkin'wankscum were keen on his signature as well as some other Premiershit clubs but, to the surprise of many including most Nerazzurro fans, the powerhouse decided to trade in his life in Munich for a stint in Milan. Merely six weeks on, he is turning out to be one of the best signings for the club in recent times.

For a long time now, Inter have been sorely missing a player capable of playing in the hole behind the strikers. Wesley Sneijder was never the same player after the treble winning year, and injuries and a regression in his performance meant the Nerazzurri lacked an individual talent capable of delivering that killer final ball or able to take on defenders on his own.

Walter Mazzarri experimented with using Fredy Guarin and Mateo Kovacic as trequartistas, but they were never quite the right fit in this vital part of the pitch. Now, under Roberto Mancini the Serpenti have reverted to playing a more traditional midfield diamond, making it imperative to have a player of Shaqiri’s skillset on the field to facilitate the attacking play.

The ex-Bayern man’s impact has been immediate, and he has settled into life in Serie A and Inter faster than expected. When he joined in January, Shaqiri had played just 532 minutes at the German club this season, now just six weeks into his time at Appiano Gentile he has eclipsed that and featured for 579 minutes and scored in all three competitions that the Nerazzurri participated in.

His display last night against Celtic was one of pure quality and he showed that the €12m that the Nerazzurri have paid for him is a significant bargain. He has the ability to unsettle defenders with his pace and strength and his vision and eye for a pass make him the perfect player to launch counter-attacks.

Furthermore, his dead-ball delivery and free-kick precision make him a threat from anywhere around the box. It took all 193cm of Craig Gordon flinging himself across the goal to deny the Swiss star a match-winning goal with the final kick of the match.

The 3-3 draw could and should have been a win for the Italians, having taken an early two-goal lead, but Mancini will feel confident of progressing with three vital away goals in the circumstances. The defence is as leaky as ever, and that is a headache the former Manchester City boss will have to bear with for the time being.

With Shaqiri’s contract running till 2019, Inter have a player they can build around for the future. Mateo Kovacic is already committed to Inter till the end of the decade as well, and now they only need to get Mauro Icardi’s contract extension sorted. Should that happen, things definitely look to be on the right path for the Biscione.

It will be interesting to see what this team manages in the next few months. The improvements under Mancini are becoming more and more visible on the pitch and should the defence sort itself out, it could be an exciting end to the season for the Nerazzurri.

What a goal from Freddy yesterday .... Mancini has done some good work on him for sure. I am seeing the team playing with more confidence lately. We're still shaky at the back but at least we're scoring and creating goals more easily. Also possession has improved greatly. Lets keep it up guys!

Official: Inter sign Felipe

Inter have officially completed the signing of former Parma defender Dias Felipe on a free transfer.

The Brazilian central defender rescinded his contract with the Ducali, and has been training with the Nerazzurri for the past few weeks.

It was thought that his signature was dependent on progress in the Europa League, and after a 1-0 victory over Celtic last night, the club has confirmed his signature.

“FC Internazionale are pleased to announce the signing of Felipe Dias da Silva Dal Belo,” the Beneamata confirmed on their official website.

“The Brazilian defender has signed a contract until June 2015 and will wear the number 26 shirt.”

Fassone: ‘Wolfsburg tough tie’

Inter director Marco Fassone admits that Wolfsburg were ‘one of the strongest in the draw’ after drawing them in the Europa League.

The Nerazzurri face the German side in the Last 16 of the competition, with the first leg at Volkswagen Arena on March 12.

“We’re superstitious, we made sure not to touch the trophy!” Fassone said in an interview with Mediaset after the draw.

“Wolfsburg are a tough opponent, one of the strongest in the draw, but not a frightening one. This shows that the Europa League is growing.

“[Roberto] Mancini is a winning Coach, recent results show we’re on the right path.”

Report: Toulalan to Inter done

It’s reported that Inter have agreed a deal with Monaco midfielder Jeremy Toulalan, and he’ll join at the end of the season.

The midfielder has been linked with the Nerazzurri for some time, and Roberto Mancini has admitted that he would fit well into his system.

Now Sportmediaset is running the line that a deal has been agreed which will see Toulalan join on a three-year deal when his contract expires this summer, beating off competition from Napoli.

The news outlet reports that the French international earn €2m per season, which would represent around half of what he earns in Monaco.

Sportmediaset had linked the Nerazzurri tactician with a move back to Manchester City for next season.

However, Sky Italia reporter Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Il Biscione are looking to cement their relationship with the current Coach, in spite of this season's disappointing results.

According to Di Marzio, the club already have a mercato strategy to build a team that would suit the 50-year-old, and this will include interest in the much coveted Paulo Dybala.

The Sky Italia journalist also commented on Alexandre Pato's speculative transfer to Inter.

“He spoke of this club because he was offered to many teams and Inter were the only ones who did not categorically turn the option down.

“Maybe they are the only club who would consider his return to Italy.”
