Erik Thohir could represent Inter when they come before UEFA on November 7 to answer questions about Financial Fair Play.
UEFA have opened investigations into whether seven clubs - including Roma and Inter - who returned to UEFA competition this year, breached Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, which seek to prevent clubs from spending more money then they earn.
The Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Erick Thohir could personally make an appearance before UEFA in Nyon for the Nerazzurri’s hearing, as the club seeks to plead its case to European football’s governing body.
The newspaper states that while Inter will acknowledge breaching regulations, the San Siro club will argue that most of the costs were incurred under the previous regime of Massimo Moratti.
This is seen by the Gazzetta also as a possible reason for the former patron’s resignation from his role as honorary President.
It is believed that Inter will point to cost-cutting measures put in place by Thohir since taking over the club, as well as an effort to generate new revenue streams, to argue that the club is heading in the right direction, but will need to be afforded time to comply with FFP.
Walter Mazzarri hit out angrily at fans calling for Roberto Mancini to take over at Inter after a 2-0 defeat to Parma.
The Nerazzurri were beaten by the bottom of the table club who had been on a run of six consecutive losses.
Mazzarri was asked about the presence of a banner at the Stadio Tardini last night calling for Mancini to be brought in.
“If after two victories and a draw with Napoli these things are being discussed, then I really don’t care what they say,” was his response to Mediaset Premium.
Meanwhile, Inter director Piero Ausilio told reporters there was “no truth” in rumours of a meeting with Mancini this week.
Mazzarri’s position is in doubt now following the 2-0 defeat to Parma, especially as it cast previous results under a new light.
They had won two in a row, but only thanks to Mauro Icardi penalties against Sampdoria and 10-man Cesena.
“What message do I send to the fans? I say what I think, which is that the club knows our working methods,” added the Coach in his Press conference.
“There are no other players available, even if that shouldn’t be an excuse. We have the desire, every now and then we let go, perhaps lulled into a false sense of security, but must remember in Italian football every game is complicated.
“It’s true that at times we practically give away goals. We lack the strength, the gas and the conviction to react to setbacks.
“However, it’s a very balanced League and many teams are dropping points, so that can give us hope of climbing back up towards third place. We need a couple of victories and we’ll be right up there.”
Giocare ogni tre giorni? E’ un problema, perchè non abbiamo respiro.
Giocare ogni sette giorni?
Giocare senza rifinitore? E’ un problema, perchè rinunciamo a qualcosa davanti.
Fare tanti gol?
Restare in inferiorità numerica?
Restare in superiorità numerica?
Giocare in casa?
Giocare in trasferta?
Giocare in campo neutron?
Giocare in Europa?
Giocare in Italia?
Se ti fischiano all’americana / Se ti applaudono ironicamente?
Giocare nelle mezze stagioni?
Inter President Erick Thohir believes Financial Fair Play will only serve to improve the viability of football, rather than hinder it.
The Nerazzurri board today met UEFA's Club Financial Control Board in Nyon to discuss the club's development plan for the coming years, specifically in relation to Financial Fair Play regulations.
Following this round of talks, Thohir has given assurances that the Milanese giants will be doing everything they can to comply with the appropriate directives.
“FFP contains a positive message and one which we believe in,” the Indonesian explained on Inter’s official website.
“It will strengthen European football. We were delighted to share our project with UEFA.
“The club is evolving its business model, governance and corporate structure to reach self-sustainability in the near future, in line with the requirements of FFP.
“Football has changed and UEFA now requires clubs to be self-sustainable. A major step down this path has been the appointment of a team of experienced senior executives with a proven and successful track record.
“These senior officials also benefit from the strong international vision and competence of the club's shareholders.”
Inter CEO Michael Bolingbroke added: “The core concept of our strategy is to expand the business by increasing profits through carefully-targeted investment, and the generation of new and enhanced revenue streams alongside improved brand awareness throughout the world.
“I'm convinced that Inter have a robust plan that will once again lead us to become a top 10 club, both on and off the pitch.”
Thohir demands Inter wins By Football Italia staff
Inter President Erick Thohir warned Walter Mazzarri he wants “the next matches to bring points – plural.”
The Nerazzurri host Hellas Verona on Sunday at 19.45 GMT, click here for a match preview.
“Do I have a message for the fans to stop jeering the team and Coach at San Siro? No, no, I am not the one who has to send a message to anyone,” Thohir told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“It is the team on the field who must send a good message to the fans and I hope they will.”
The President was asked whether the 1-1 draw with Saint-Etienne in the Europa League gave the response he was looking for.
“Now we will think of Verona. We must concentrate only on that game and have to get points. I am convinced the team will do well on Sunday, but the fact remains I expect to get points over the next three games.
“I know the difference between one and three points means a victory, but I’d really like the next matches to bring points – plural.
“I say that because the real challenges will be against Milan and Roma, which can give us an important push up the table.”
Thohir took time to praise 17-year-old striker Federico Bonazzoli, who made his full debut against Saint-Etienne on Thursday.
“In a difficult game like Saint-Etienne, we saw something important and I am referring to Bonazzoli. He played really well and he sends a message to our Academy: if you work hard and want to go far, you have a chance at Inter.
“We want to invest in Bonazzoli and help him grow, because we believe in him.”
Positive talk from Thohir regarding Bonazzoli and the youth. Rumours have come out today that we might be sending Vidic back to manure on loan and possibly bring Rolando back on loan. Won't mind that if it happens. Vidic hasn't added anything to this squad this season apart from his marketability.
Ok, I had thought that Mazzarri somehow had reached his limit in terms of excuses... but I never even dreamt that he would really try to justify something because there was some rain............for Christ's sake! He's an embarrassment. period.
I am in no way defending Mazzarri ... I hate it when he come up with all kind of excuses (in the last game against Verona he blamed the rain!).
But ... are we sure that a change in coach will get the club back on track. I have been following Inter and football in general since 1989. I very rarely remember a change in coach which resulted in a transformation. Sticking to Inter, perhaps the only transformation was that when we sacked Benitez in favour of Leonardo. Other than that, results always remained the same.
My question is ... is it worth it to throw away money (half of mazzari's remaining contract + a new contract for a new coach) when the chances are that the new coach will do as bad as Mazzarri? Wouldn't it be better to invest that money in the squad? Just some fod for thought.
I think Mancini is the right choice (although I admit I am VERY biased) for a number of reasons. He knows the club, the supporters love him, he has won at the club and he's got Inter in his heart (despite the fact how it ended 6 years ago, a decision which lately he admitted as eing partly his fault due to his words after the Liverfekkin'wankscum game).
I was losing interest in watching the Inter games because of the shitty way we seem to be playing week in week out and the even more shittier responses Mazzarri gave after each defeat.
Good to have Mancio back, given the available choices and that we are nowhere near CL, I think he is the right choice. He can be a tittle more flexible tactically and I think he will move us away from the 3 at the back system.
Yes, for sure with Mancini we will have more flexibility. I still think that is of primary importance to work on the transfer market in the January window.
I am seeing a lot of excitement on social media ... perhaps too much. It is true that mancio won 7 trophies in his first Inter experience. But it also true that he had a super keeper (JC), the best right full back in the world (Maicon), players with balls of steel like Samwel, Cambiasso, Stankovic, Zanetti and Viera, the class of Veron and Figo and strikers like Crespo, Zlatan and Cruz. Then there were other players like Cordoba, Materazzi, Dacourt that were not really superstars but that had a lot of character, something that at the moment is quite lacking.
So yes, today is a happy day ... but let's keep our feet on the ground. Those that have been following Inter like me for almost 30 years know that for us it is equally easy to get hyped up and excited as to fall into a deep depression
Great, Mazzarri is gone! However, I'm not sure that Mancini is the man. We have a good history with him winning quite a few titles, but don't forget, we had no competition either. Juve were relegated and heavily weakened (not to mention we poached some of their players - Ibra anyone?) and Milan had their points deduction. This is a totally different Inter to the one he had not to mention the money at his disposal and the players he was able to select play. Despite that, hopefully we go back to a back four, (no Vidic please), we become defensively stronger again and he can get us back to the Champions League. Good luck Mancio!
Inter will have to defend Roberto Mancini’s rumoured €4.5m per year wages to FIFA’s Financial Fair Play committee.
The club hired Mancini this afternoon, sacking Walter Mazzarri, so under current rules will have to continue paying the old tactician his €3.5m per year wages for the remainder of his contract until June 2016.
Although no financial details or even the length of the contract have been confirmed, Sky Sport Italia claim Mancini has a deal until June 2017.
The first year would see wages worth €3.5m, rising to €4.5m for the next two, plus generous performance-related bonuses.
Inter are already in trouble with FIFA over their Financial Fair Play status and will have to defend this extra expenditure during their appeal.
It’s also reported that Mancini understands the situation and will therefore not make any huge demands during the January transfer window.
