I know you guys are into paintings, Da Vinci and other stuff the local barista at Starbucks knows but have you seen the latest in modern art? The choke artists known as AS Roma. They've really outdone themselves over the past decade or so. I like more of their modern work in comparison to that of the pre-2000 era. They really come out and touch the viewer (albeit mostly little boys). The expression of "hey, we are a good team and can win it all, just not when it matters" occurs throughout the canvas. It gives the artist a sense of confidence but only to let down their fan base. They do express a clear, distinguishing factor within the gray area of that group answering the lifelong mystery of a Romanista: "is it a small penis or an over-sized clitoris??" I'm just glad we can find answers through art and culture, as we almost never do.

Non è un momento facile per la Roma di Garcia, reduce da due sconfitte consecutive e da un periodo non brillante dal punto di vista fisico. Ciò è dovuto ai tanti infortuni muscolari e traumatici che hanno condizionato le scelte dell’allenatore francese, costretto a non poter ruotare gli uomini come avrebbe voluto. Siamo quasi vicini alla seconda sosta e la speranza è che alla ripresa l’infermeria possa finalmente svuotarsi. Vedono la luce in fondo al tunnel Strootman e Castan, due giocatori di forte personalità che sono mancati eccome ai giallorossi. Dopo una prima analisi del minutaggio dei singoli calciatori dopo il match contro il Manchester City, continuiamo il nostro percorso esaminando come è cambiata la situazione nell’ultimo mese.

I PIU’ UTILIZZATI – Un mese fa i giallorossi con più minutaggio erano nell’ordine Nainggolan, Manolas con Pjanic e De Sanctis ex equo. I primi tre posti, trentasei giorni dopo, non sono assolutamente cambiati: il belga continua ad essere il calciatore più utilizzato da Garcia con 1170’ (sempre schierato dall’inizio tranne nella gara casalinga contro il Cesena); il roccioso centrale greco è a quota 1044’ avendo dovuto scontare due turni di squalifica per il rosso allo Juventus Stadium mentre Pjanic è sul gradino più basso del podio con 1003’ anche se il bosniaco, nel secondo mini-ciclo di partite, ne ha giocate per intero soltanto due.

ATTACCO: TOTTI IL PIU’ SOSTITUITO, ITURBE IL MENO UTILIZZATO – Numeri molto simili invece nel reparto offensivo, a testimonianza di come Garcia intenda far ruotare spesso il proprio tridente d’attacco. Il più utilizzato ovviamente è Gervinho (938’) con l’ivoriano che è partito dalla panchina due volte nelle ultime sei gare. Dietro l’ex Arsenal ecco Florenzi (711’) e Totti (702’): curiosa statistica sul Capitano che dall’inizio della stagione ha giocato per intero solo una gara, con ben nove sostituzioni a partita in corso. Garcia sta centellinando il talento del suo fuoriclasse, non volendo stressare troppo i muscoli del numero 10 giallorosso. Ancora non ingrana Iturbe, il meno utilizzato del reparto d’attacco (435’): l’argentino si è dovuto fermare due volte per infortunio ed è chiaro che serve tempo per recuperare la miglior condizione fisica.

DIFESA: TOROSIDIS PIU’ PRESENTE DI MAICON – Dall’analisi dei minutaggi del reparto difensivo, si evince il peso dell’assenza di Maicon: il brasiliano nel primo mini-ciclo di partite aveva totalizzato ben 560’ mentre successivamente è sceso in campo solo contro il Chievo. La sua mancanza si è fatta sentire in termini di personalità e carattere, tanto che il suo sostituto, Torosidis, è arrivato a giocare più minuti del titolare di ruolo (694’ il greco, 650’ il verdeoro). Yanga-Mbiwa (949’) conferma il suo alto minutaggio mentre a sinistra Cole e Holebas si sono spartiti gli stessi minuti (270’) nelle ultime sei gare. Una prova dell’assenza di un titolare di ruolo da quel lato.

Roma's Francesco Totti: Everything Is Fine With Rudi Garcia

In a column for the Corriere dello Sport, Francesco Totti praised Rudi Garcia for instilling a camaraderie and unity in the Roma dressing room and insisted that he has cleared the air with the coach over his substitution against Torino.

I'm back writing for the Corriere dello Sport and I'm taking the chance to let the fans know my thoughts about our season and about the current stage of my career, which I hope still contains many satisfactions.

I started this season with great enthusiasm. When I go into the changing room at Trigoria I see lots of people there and that makes me happy inside, particularly when I see lots of top quality players around me, including some youngsters. We're at the third international break of the season, we're second in the league and the Champions League and on course in every competition. Our main opponents in the league are Juventus, but there are teams behind us who can get into the title race too. I believe the league is a higher standard compared to last year. We've been equipped to compete at the highest level. The important thing is to confront every game with maximum concentration because dangers are always just around the corner, even when you're facing teams who are fighting to survive relegation.

On Sunday we started winning again against Torino. It was a victory that helped us on a psychological level. Winning again after the two defeats against Bayern and the one against Napoli restored our conviction that we can do this. And we started playing again as we know how to. As captain I say that we're a great group, nourished by a coach who we've established an excellent relationship with ever since his first day in Rome. I say this even after the hyperbole that was centred around my substitution on Sunday evening. I cleared things up straight away with the coach, at the end of the game. And we've worked in perfect harmony in the few days since, as we always do; we've joked as though nothing had ever tarnished our splendid relationship.

I never like going off the pitch before the 90th minute, I told that to the coach as well. At the time I would have liked to have crowned my performance with a goal, but this all comes after the collective interests of Roma. We're a team and we can only achieve our goals that we've set ourselves by playing together. Garcia has given Roma a precise stylistic identity which allows us to be a team that knows how to be spectacular. We have to continue on this path, knowing that when our fans come to the Olimpico they want to see us win but also to be entertained.

When the league starts again we'll be tested in Bergamo by Atalanta, a trip which has never been easy. But I remember a great win in the mud during the scudetto winning season. We'll have to fight because Colantuono's teams never give anything away. I'll be resting because I'm suspended, but I'm sure that my team-mates will show themselves to be worthy. Then we'll hope for some good news from the Olimpico, where Lazio will host Juventus in a match that will definitely not be easy.

Straight after we'll have a hugely important challenge in Moscow for Champions League qualification. We beat the Russians at the Olimpico and scored five goals, but they've been a changed team since. It won't be easy, but we have to return with a positive result so that we can play for qualification against City in front of our fans, who I'm sure will be decisive in that game as they always are at crucial moments.

I'm glad to see that other guys of my age are doing well this season, starting with our goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis. Then there's Toni and Di Natale, who haven't lost their ability to score goals. Luca was also my team-mate at Roma, and I met Toto with the national team when I was at the end of my Azzurri adventure and he was at the start of his. I know they have great qualities and they've also been kind to me. It's a pleasure to see that they are still major players. You can only play at certain levels for so many years with a lot of enthusiasm. I also want to send my best wishes to Lorenzo Insigne. I've also had an injury like his, I hope that he returns soon.

Recently Gigi Riva and tender Alex The Waterboy have celebrated their birthdays, two big figures in the world of Italian football who I feel a certain affinity with. Riva was a real frame of reference for me in the national team. An extraordinary person, he was a champion as a player and one who never abandoned his team. And he was always ready to laugh with the players [when he was a director] with the national team. His advice during those years was absolutely precious to me. I've always felt he's by my side, even during difficult moments when everyone else seemed to be apart. I'll never forget the support he's given me. We always need managers like him who have so much good will. Gigi was an icon for Cagliari, he represented Sardinia with a deep, enviable affinity which made the people of that island proud.

tender Alex The Waterboy is unquestionable a great champion, he has represented and still represents Juventus around the world. A true captain and someone who Juventus should be proud of. But he's also a great man who I have come to value during our joint adventures with the national team.

My last thought goes to Stefano and Cristian, who came to support us that night against Bayern and never went back home. I know that the pain will never be erased for their family but we'll always carry their memory with us and we'll try to give them some joy up there in heaven. Because I'm sure that they are still following us.
