Né possono esserlo i suoi allenatori.
I kind of agree with this article. Mazzarri is mediocre and that ain't really his fault. The fault was for who hired him and for who decided to even further his contract. I'm pretty sure I would find it extremely difficult to find at least 5 Interisti who approved his contract extension. The disapproval at the time was pretty much unanimous. Having said that, it doesn't mean we (as supporters) need to support Mazzarri for him not being at fault. We support Inter and therefore pretend the best for it... and Mazzarri certainly isn't. Why on earth did they offer him a contract extension?????
Thohir is not a silly man. He would have not extended Mazzarri's contract if there wasn't a clause in there that benefited him. Maybe the clause is if we don't qualify for the Champions League this season we can part ways without have to pay out Mazzarri the rest of his contract...
Benitez, Leonardo, Gasperini, Ranieri, Stramacioni, Mazzarri .... all coaches that have done well (more or less) in other places but have failed at Inter. However, the coach is always the one to get the blame with the fans / media. I have been following football too much not to know that the coach in reality only counts up to a certain point. Give this team to Mourinho and I can guarantee he WILL NOT win the league. Look at Juventus ... anyone remembers the jokes and laughs when they hired Allegri instead of Conte? Nobody's laughing now ... I remain of the opinion that the team equation is club + coach + players.
Don't get me wrong. Mazzarri has his faults. He is surely not the best coach in the world. However he is not the only one responsible for Inter's poor results. We've hardly invested any money this summer and although we have some very promising youngsters, I think that we could have done with two or three other players at the peak of their career that can give a hand when in need.
I hope I am wrong however, there are the first tiny tiny glimpses of what I was afraid of when Thohir took over at the helm of Inter. I was probably the only Inter supporter in the world who was a bit worried when Massimo Moratti was out and Thoihir in. Many said 'what could possibly go wrong?" others said 'It will be nice to become the next Monaco / PSG / Man City". I feared something else ...
I fear that Thoihir is only interested in the financial aspect of all of this. Inter has a name and millions of supporters all over the world. I am afraid that all he wants is to monetise on this whilst not giving much importance to the played football part. He is however forgetting 1 small detail ... without results, his project of turning Inter into a brand will fail. If this happens and he decides to leave in 5 - 6 years time ... God help us all. We will then be in the hands of the banks and what happened to Fiorentina and Napoli 10 years ago could happen to us.
I don't think this is any of Thohir's fault. The reason we are playing like shit is down to the coach and the players. All Thohir did was extend Mazzarri's contract which seemed logical at the moment because we did finish higher than the previous season and saw that as progression. Coming in as a new President, it was logical to not unbalance the team so much with so many changes happening off the field.
We got the players Mazzarri needed with the little budget we had and everyone was aware of the situation that money was hard to come by. Considering all this, what I still don't understand is why we as team don't have a proper blueprint of how we play. More often than not we just play high balls out of defense hoping that our strikers would get a head to that. We started off the season with some high pressing especially in the games in the USA, where has that disappeared. All of this is down to the coach and the players who implement this on the field.
True we are playing like shit Frank but I still think that the management has failed if on September 1st they present the coach with a squad that has just 3 strikers one of which is returning from an injury (especially if you consider that Inter have the EL the year).
Furthermore, I don't agree that there is no money. This guy and his family is huge in Asia and has large revenues from a multitude of different sectors rather than from one source (oil) which is meant to dry up very soon. I agree with Thohir that the club has to be self sufficient unlike the likes of PSG or Man City but initially he has to dig into his pockets and put in the required money to kick start the project in the right way.
Having said that ... yes we are playing like shit and I think that the break comes at the right time considering our athletic condition. Jesus, our opponents are always first on the ball, game after game.
Absolutely agree that the performances against Cagliari and Fiorentina were unjustifiable. Whilst against Cagliari there was the excuse that we played most of the match with 10 men, against Fiorentina there were absolutely no excuses. You can lose 3-0, especially if your opponents score two wonder goals, but you cannot not play for 90 minutes. True, Mazzarri has his faults. The very poor physical condition after all is the result of his staff's work. I am hoping that given the long season we made a preparation to start slow and then have endurance for the whole season. In any case this poor physical condition is strange since I remember both Napoli and Sampdoria to be very strong where fitness was concerned.
The point i wanted to make and which worries me is that we are risking that because of Mazzarri some issues which are just as important will not get addressed. There are deficiencies in both the squad and the management but it seems that at the end of the day we will try fixing everything, as usual by changing the coach.
As you said, we love Inter, and we all think Inter deserves the best. Hence I really believe that Inter deserve the best management and the best possible squad as well.
One thing on which I wanted to ask for your view ....
Has anyone noticed that perhaps the new management is not giving enough importance to tradition? Although the new kits are nice ... the blue is almost completely gone. Also I didn't like how Cordoba was treated. A true Interista at heart who deserved better treatment. (BTW ... we should be meeting him in Malta pretty soon )
It’s reported Inter will sack Walter Mazzarri if he loses to Napoli next week, bringing in Walter Zenga.
The tactician is under pressure after two consecutive Serie A defeats to Cagliari and Fiorentina, in which the Nerazzurri conceded seven goals and scored one.
According to the Corriere dello Sport, President Erick Thohir is running out of patience and prepared to pull the trigger next weekend.
Ironically, it could be Mazzarri’s former club Napoli to spell his Inter doom, as the two teams go head-to-head.
Zenga is the hot favourite to take over, as he could easily quit his current job with Al-Jazira and he is a former Inter hero.
He also has management experience all over the world with the likes of Steaua Bucharest, Red Star Belgrade, Gaziantepspor, Catania, Palermo and Al-Nasr.
Looking more long-term, Thohir’s ideal Coach would be Diego Simeone, who does not seem intent on leaving Atletico Madrid.
Another option would be current Sampdoria boss Sinisa Mihajlovic, who was a player at Inter and assistant manager to title-winning Roberto Mancini.
This is not a solution. Simeone would be a dream, but let's be realistic, he won't join us in our financial state. What happened to the talks of us looking at de Boer?
