Mourinho calls Zanetti to Chelsea?

There are surprise reports Jose Mourinho has offered Inter legend Javier Zanetti a one-year contract at Chelsea.

The Argentine right-back will turn 41 in August and has been at San Siro since 1995, becoming the first buy of patron Massimo Moratti’s reign.

Zanetti has repeatedly said he wishes to remain at Inter for life, even after he hangs up his boots.

However, according to Sky Sport Italia this evening, Mourinho is eager to tempt him into one final playing experience.

Mou won the Treble at Inter with Zanetti as his captain in 2010 and is prepared to offer him a one-year contract at Chelsea from June 2014.

It would also include the option to then become Mourinho’s transfer market strategist after he quits football.

Pupi’s current deal with the Nerazzurri expires in June and he has not yet worked out a renewal, nor decided whether he’ll retire at the end of the season.

He does not seem intent on calling it a day after returning faster than expected from a ruptured Achilles tendon in November, to date the only really serious injury of his career.

However, Zanetti is not part of Walter Mazzarri’s plans and is reportedly ready to discuss the Mourinho offer with President Erick Thohir.

Zanetti rubbishes Chelsea link

Javier Zanetti has rubbished suggestions that he will leave Inter at the end of the season for Chelsea.

Reports in the British Press earlier on Friday claimed that the 40-year-old would join Jose Mourinho’s side in the summer for a player-Coach role.

However, the Argentine veteran has insisted that that is not the case, despite his great rapport with the Portuguese tactician.

“Honestly, I have a great rapport with Mourinho,” he told Inter Channel.

“We hear from each other frequently, but we’ve never discussed these things. I believe the Inter fans know how I feel about this shirt. I’ve always stressed that this club is my life and my home.

“And it’s my desire to stay here. I don’t need to add anything else.”

Zanetti then commented on his peripheral role in Walter Mazzarri’s team this season.

“Ever since I’ve been a player I’ve believed there are two possibilities - you either play from the opening whistle or you’re on the bench and able to come on.

“I have a lot of respect for the coach’s choices and the work my team-mates do. And I believe to be part of a group at a big club you have to think that way.

“I’m waiting for my moment. I feel good, and the most important thing is that I’m able to do my part when my time comes.

“But I feel that everything is going the right way. What counts most now is that Inter can manage to give their all in these remaining 14 games, and we hope we can get to Europe, which is something important for everyone

The defender concluded by remarking on this weekend’s game with Cagliari.

“We have to keep doing what we did in the last two matches, which we deservedly won.

“This consistency also comes from those kinds of things. We know there are still 14 games left. We have to give our all in order to earn as many points as we can.”

Thohir: Vidic news in a few days

Inter President Erick Thohir has revealed that Nemanja Vidic’s move to the club could happen ‘within the next few days’.

The Indonesian tycoon claimed on Thursday that the switch from Manchester United was ’90 per cent’ complete, whilst the defender’s agent admitted on Friday that the transfer was ‘just details away’.

And the Nerazzurri owner has conceded this evening that the deal could well be done before the end of the month.

“With Vidic we bring experience - he is after all Manchester United’s captain,” Thohir told reporters.

“In the next few days we will know if it will happen, it would be a great thing.

“I won’t make announcements to ruin the relationship with the club, it will arrive when it’s done.

“Vidic tied to marketing? All of the decisions are collective -when we think of building a team we think of the pitch but also marketing.

“If we can have him it would be good since he is famous in Asia. The Premiershit is the top in Indonesia, the player would add value to the club.”

I think this is the main reason for us signing him. When word first went around that we might be going after him, Inter were in the local sports news here in Australia. They hardly ever talk about Inter or Serie A. We are lucky to get much football news on mainstream tele, and when its on, its either the local stuff (which is good) or the EPL.

Mazzarri: Inter denied penalty

Inter Coach Walter Mazzarri says his side were denied a blatant penalty in their draw with Cagliari.

The former Napoli boss believes Mauro Icardi was clearly fouled and that the Nerazzurri should have had the chance to win the game.

“I don’t talk about referees,” he said to Rai Radio. “It’s so obvious, how can I not say it was a penalty.

“I’m fed up of keeping quiet but I will have to.”

Mazzarri then praised his team’s opponents who are fighting relegation.

“I must congratulate the Sardi because they played well, they made very courageous decisions,” he said.

“Against Fiorentina we went ahead but we couldn’t do that today. Getting in front is important.

“It was a particular game that we drew, we created a lot of chances but we couldn’t take them.

“Unfortunately today we handled a few situations badly.

“We are all a bit annoyed because today we did everything we could to bring the three points home.”

The tactician was then asked about some of his players’ form.

“Our substitutions gave us new life,” he said.

“Alvarez did well, but the squad is strong and whoever comes in will need to do well.

“Guarin had problems during the week but today he played the whole game.

“We have missed having a player like Hernanes because he is mature and calm.”

Mazzarri: 'Inter missing eight points'

Walter Mazzarri continued his protest against referees and claimed Inter “are missing eight points” this season.

The Coach spoke to Sky Sport Italia at a book launch in Biella today after a 1-1 draw with Cagliari.

“It’s not a great Monday, as I am not happy with the result,” said Mazzarri. “It’s not a defeat, but we thought that we did enough to deserve the three points.

“We struggled in the first half, partly thanks to Cagliari’s performance, but did our best in the second. Unfortunately it all went wrong for us again and it’s not the first time. I’d say we are missing seven or eight points.

“Of course there are regrets. At times we struggle to break the deadlock at home against tight teams. It has happened that we play well, but – as yesterday – are not lucky.”

Pressed on whether he was referring to refereeing errors, Mazzarri shrugged off the question.

“I already spoke about it yesterday, we are unlucky. Don’t make me say any more.”

Inter face Roma in a fiery encounter on Saturday night, so what does Mazzarri make of Rudi Garcia?

“He is doing very well in his first year in Italy. I don’t know him personally, but I like the way he comes across. It’s good for our football to have someone like him.

“The club has also worked well and is strong. We’ll try to prepare as best we can for a fascinating fixture.”

Report: Evra in Inter meeting

According to Italian reports, Manchester United defender Patrice Evra is today in talks with Inter directors.

TuttoMercatoWeb claim Nerazzurri director of sport Piero Ausilio flew out to London City Airport this afternoon and met with Evra at the Terminal.

They are reported to have walked off together to hold negotiations on a future together at San Siro.

Evra is out of contract with Manchester United in June and wanted by several clubs around Europe.

The 32-year-old French international speaks fluent Italian, as he began his career at Marsala Calcio and Monza as a teenager.

Evra would be the second out of contract Manchester United player to join Inter, as a deal is 90 per cent done for Nemanja Vidic.

Thohir targets raft of signings

The Corriere dello Sport claim this morning that Inter owner Erick Thohir will bring in at least four new players in the summer.

Nemanja Vidic is already, virtually, on his way from Manchester United, but the paper insists that the Indonesia tycoon will dip into a considerable transfer kitty to sign other targets.

The new President wants a different spine to the Nerazzurri for next season, with the hopes of making a title challenge.

Patrice Evra and Bacary Sagna are two defenders said to be of interest to the San Siro side, whilst Real Madrid youngster Casemiro and Barcelona outcast tender Alex Song are the midfielders being targeted.

In the forward positions, Los Blancos man Alvaro Morata and Edin Dzeko of Manchester City are names the Rome-based paper believes Inter will go after.

Un rientro positivo, in una partita tutt’altro che facile. Esteban Cambiasso ha risposto nuovamente presente alla chiamata di Walter Mazzarri nello scialbo 0-0 dell’Olimpico fra Inter e Roma. Scialbo, perché il centrocampista nerazzurro è riuscito, con una prestazione da migliore in campo per i suoi, a tornare ad essere la diga insuperabile in grado di proteggere la linea difensiva e, allo stesso tempo, orchestrare con intelligenza la manovra offensiva.

SCADENZA DI CONTRATTO – Giunto a 33 anni con un contratto in scadenza al termine della stagione, Cambiasso ha mostrato ancora una volta come, con un fisico in perfette condizioni, l’apporto che può garantire alla squadra è ancora di primissimo livello. In questa stagione però, così come in quelle precedenti complice l’assenza di sostituti all’altezza in rosa, Cambiasso ha potuto scendere in campo al 100% delle proprie possibilità soltanto nella prima parte della stagione. A conti fatti il rendimento del Cuchu è stata una sorta di cartina tornasole dell’andamento in campionato della squadra.

AMORE ETERNO – Intervenuto ai microfoni dei media al termine della partita, Cambiasso ha espresso un solo, forte, concetto riguardo al proprio immediato futuro, continuare a giocare. "Cosa farò a giugno? Giocare a calcio e ne sono convinto, ma non so ancora dove. Non ho parlato ancora con la nuova proprietà, fra me e l'Inter ci sarà sempre chiarezza. O giocatore o in un altro ruolo o tifoso sarò sempre interista". Una dichiarazione di amore eterno quella dell’attuale capitano interista ma, anche, un’apertura ad un futuro slegato dal club di Corso Vittorio Emanuele.

COSA FARE? – Cosa fare, quindi con il centrocampista argentino? L’arrivo di un nuovo centrocampista centrale appare la necessità più grande in ottica di mercato. Inoltre, lo stesso Mazzarri in conferenza stampa ha confermato l’incertezza sul futuro del senatore interista celando il più grande problema legato al rinnovo contrattuale di Cambiasso: le cifre. 4,5 milioni all’anno è lo stipendio che l’Inter ha garantito finora a Cambiasso una cifra che oggi è lontana anni luce da quella proposta dai dirigenti nerazzurri. Rinnovo o non rinnovo? L’incontro chiarificatore con Erick Thohir non è ancora arrivato, ma toccherà proprio al presidente nerazzurro la dura scelta sul futuro del centrocampista.

Official: Vidic to join Inter

Inter have confirmed that Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic will join them next season.

The Serbian centre-back has been heavily linked with a switch to San Siro when his contract expires in the summer.

And after months of speculation, the Nerazzurri have finally revealed that the 32-year-old will sign for next term.

Speaking to their official website, President Erick Thohir has said: “"Vidic is a world-class player. I'm extremely happy to have completed this deal to bring Nemanja to Milan.

“He's one of the world's best defenders and his qualities, international pedigree and charisma will be an asset to the team and help bring through our younger players.
