Paredes is ours and Galliani has said that he believes that a deal is already done between Roma and Cagliari for Nainggolan.

Paredes is not an EU player so he must be shipped out on loan as we don't have a slot. Riquelme called him his heir at Boca...

Yeah, Paredes is meant to be good. Its a funny sort of deal: we've signed him on loan for 18-months for €250,000, with an option to buy outright at the end of that for a further €4.5m.

From reading that it probably explains why the deal is an 18-month loan due to his injury problems.

I like Nainggolan, he's a good player and can be a good addition to our midfield, although it is a lot of money being mooted (for only co-ownership?). It would also likely signal the end for Bradley.

More importantly, though, since we're being active on the mercato front and all, is there any sign of a new left-back? Last night confirmed what we all already knew about Dodo.

Niggernoolan is some damn crazy purchase. It's been a while since the club made that sort of a move (that kind of money for a player of that stature who might be just a whisker outside the first-choice starting 11). It's some declaration of intent. Word is it might mean Bradley's out, but I'd have thought we were short a body there anyway (since Marquinhos and Florenzi clearly aren't midfielders for Garcia and Taddei's a fairly unlikely fit too). I'm pretty sure Bradley's not technically good enough for Garcia's midfield, but he seems an exemplary professional and exactly the sort of squad player you want.

bradley needs playing time to help lead the usa to win the world cup championship. and i don't think roma is good enough for such a big caliber player like bradley. good for him.

PM, you're just jealous we're getting Nainggolan and not Milan, Galliani and co are far too stingy to dish out the money for him. He's also not really the kind of midfielder you need, is he, another defensive midfielder? I hear Pirlo's contract is up soon...

Nainggolan will cost a fair bit, though, in fairness. What is it, €3m initial fee for a loan until the end of the season with an option to buy on CO-OWNERSHIP for a further €6.5m. Thats €9.5m for 50% of him, which is quite a lot.

Still, he'll be a great addition for sure. No doubt he'll be "quarto titolare" behind the quality of DDR-Stroots-Pjanic, but he's quality back-up. I like Bradley I have to admit, his honesty and attitude on the pitch have greatly impressed me, but he does lack in quality. Nainggolan is better defensively but also a better ball player. As back-ups go, Bradley, Marquinhos and Taddei were a bit weak, so its a good improvement, especially for a team with CL aspirations. I'd like to keep Bradley too, but like PM said, he has the WC to think about and so might want to kick the saccerball with more regularity.

Well Radja seems more a natural replacement for Strootman rather than Pjanic no? Paredes seems more of a Pjanic or wide forward type player.

NAINGGOLAN: A CLOSER LOOK

Nainggolan. Spelled with one n and two g’s. His first name is Radja, and he’s the new acquisition for Roma’s midfield. The "Ninja", who turns 26 on May 4, is a utility midfielder who certainly doesn’t shy away from physical play, and with his ability to both defend and attack it’s no surprise he led his ex-team Cagliari in shots on goal this season. He can play in the center of midfield, shielding the defense, or alongside the regista. In short, he brings tremendous versatility to the midfield role.

Nainggolan was born in Antwerp to a father of Indonesian origin and a Belgian mother and took his first steps as a player in Germinal Beerschot’s youth system. In 2005 he transferred to Piacenza where, after an initial period with the Primavera, he earned a starting role with the first team. It was coach Giuseppe Iachini who gave him his professional debut in the Serie B on May 28, 2006 in the final game of the season: Piacenza 2-3 Arezzo, with Radja coming on for Tommaso Bianchi in the 74th minute. In 2008 Stefano Pioli took over the helm at the club, and the youngster with a peculiar name continued to show well, especially in terms of the personality he exhibited on the field.

Cagliari were the quickest to notice his quality and win his signature in the January transfer market of 2010. Nainggolan truly came into his own in Sardinia, with 131 appearances and 7 goals. Next to follow was a call-up to the Belgian national team on May 29, 2009 in a Kirin Cup match against Chile. He notched his first Serie A goal on October 31, 2010 against Bologna; a stunning volley that left goalkeeper Viviano helpless. Roma even got a taste of his footballing prowess as well at the Stadio Olimpico on February 1, 2013; the Sardinians won 2-4, and it was the Belgian who opened the scoring. But there’s no more risk of that happening, as Nainggolan is now a Roma player.

Taddei's done fine, Davit, but there's a reason Garcia hasn't asked him to start too many games. It's not Taddei's fault that, as a central midfielder, he's some way behind Strootman, De Rossi, and Pjanic. He's a very useful squad member, clearly - in more ways than one - but as the second back-up to the midfield 3 I'm not so sure.
