I don't mind letting go of Guarin either. I think at this point we must come to accept that the only way the club can buy players is to sell one of our 'big' names each year. Having come to terms with that, I would rather see Guarin go than any other sellable player. I agree that on his day he can be unbeatable but those days are just far and few between some very inconsistent displays and hoofing the ball to the crowd.
I would be happy if we can get Niangolan as a replacement. It will also leave Mazzarri with one less problem to deal with. Let's face it, he has been trying to find Guarin a good position in the team while maintaining some balance. And its been a huge failure, looking at the turn of results ever since Alvarez and Guarin switched positions. May be with Guarin gone, Alvarez can finally move forward in support of Palacio or the likes of Icardi/ Belfodil will get more playing time.
MATCH PREVIEW Serie A Week 17 Inter - Milan Stadio Giuseppe Meazza
The Derby della Madonnina is an unusually underwhelming affair this time as both Inter and Milan are struggling to find any consistency.
Both Inter and Milan have suffered in recent weeks and they have just won two games between them in the last 10 games, though nine points do separate them from each other.
Last weekend, the Nerazzurri's rather unspectacular unbeaten run which produced just three wins and five draws was brought to an end by former Coach Rafa Benitez and Napoli in a 4-2 defeat.
Ricky Alvarez's harsh dismissal in the second-half certainly snatched away the momentum Inter were building, but the costly defensive errors earlier in the game was what let the team down.
The Nerazzurri have conceded seven goals in their last two games and the defensive issues that held the team back last season seem to have resurfaced. Recent results have seen il Biscione slip to fifth and seven points behind the final Champions League place.
The FIGC has also ordered Inter's fan section - the Curva Nord - to be shut for this game, after anti-Napoli chants during the last game at the San Paolo. However, a final ruling is expected on Friday afternoon and there is a chance that the ban could be overturned.
As for Milan, their Monday night draw against Roma was another cracking game and one that the Rossoneri could have even won right at the end, despite being second-best for large portions of the match.
Twice the Diavolo fell behind, but they found the mental strength to rebound each time and equalise. While, there has been a lot of backroom unrest at the club, on the pitch at least there has been visible improvement.
Kaka might not have had a great game against the Giallorossi, but the Brazilian has certainly produced in some of the big games for Milan and his return to the side after an early injury has certainly helped bolster the team.
Mario Balotelli also continues to dominate the headlines too, and he had an abject game against Roma until in the decisive moment he found the right pass to Sulley Muntari for the equaliser late into the game.
Both teams also have a host of injury issues coming into the 181st League edition of the Milan derby. The Nerazzurri will be missing out on Diego Milito and Walter Samuel, while the Rossoneri have big problems up front with Robinho, Valter Birsa and Stephan El Shaarawy all out. Ignazio Abate and Emanuelson are also in doubt for this fixture.
On current form, it looks to be the Rossoneri who come into this derby with more momentum. With Alvarez set to miss out for Inter after his red card, they will be hard pressed for creativity. This derby could definitely swing either way.
Keep an eye on: Mario Balotelli (Milan) - It is hard to find any one else to talk about in this game than Balotelli. The Milan man has at times played like a man possessed but at others has shown his characteristic immaturity. Given his Inter past, he will be charged up for this one.
Stat Fact: Since 2005-06 season, Inter have only lost just one and won six of the last eight League editions of the Derby della Madonnina where they have been the designated home side.
Radja Nainggolan said he hasn’t received firm offers, but Cagliari President Massimo Cellino warned “he has to go now.”
The midfielder has so far resisted all bids despite interest from the likes of Inter, Juventus, Milan, Roma, Fiorentina and overseas at Everton, Manchester City and Manchester United.
“You journalists are the ones who talk about the transfer market, not me,” the Belgian international told Sky Sport Italia after tonight’s 1-1 draw with Napoli.
“I haven’t received any offers and I am happy to play here at Cagliari.”
However, President Cellino spoke to the media after the game and painted a very different picture, apparently irritated by the fact the Stadio Sant’Elia still allows only 5,000 fans due to restructuring work.
“Nainggolan will definitely go. Not even in January, he can go tomorrow,” snapped the patron.
“He has six or seven clubs looking for him and I can’t keep hold of him again. It’s not an issue of money, as even if they give me less than his price-tag, he’ll still go. If he doesn’t want to go, I’ll send him away.
“We play in a stadium worthy of Serie C, the players had to travel all around Italy for two years because we weren’t allowed a home stadium. I can’t keep anyone in these conditions.
“From tomorrow anyone who wants to leave Cagliari is free to do so. Those who remain do so only if they want to and that’s their problem. I wouldn’t stay in this situation.
“Does that apply to Davide Astori too? It applies to everyone, I don’t rule anybody out.”
Ok, the derby sucked ... Inter sucked for most of the game. But, this being a derby, and Inter having won it, I frankly don't give a Fuck
Palacio's goal was superb ... one of the best derby goals I have seen in my long Inter-fan career. Guarin also played a great game (he often gets wrong even the simplest of passes, but damn I like his fighting spirit). The rest all gave average to below average performances. I think we really missed Alvarez in the mf.
I am expecting a good strengthening of the squad in January especially since the 3rd place is at just 5 points. It would be a pity not to at least try. I am not expecting great arrivals ... a very rare thing in January, but hey, wasn't this club take over supposed to give us a certain financial boost. Now its the time to prove it.
Balle dico io….allora come adesso.
Buon natale nerazzurro…dolcissimo natale post derby
What are your views on the next transfer market. I am admit I would be a bit disappointed should the sport journals be right in stating that if we do not sell, we won't be buying. I thought that with the new administration there would be enough enthusiasm to start investing again. For instance I remember when Moratti took over the club ... he made many mistakes but he never shied away when it came to buying new players and smashing world transfer records.
Don't know ... we'll have to wait and see I guess.
Thohir never intended to spend his own money. His objective is to make Inter generate it's own funds like other top clubs in Europe do. If he can get that result, it would be significantly more important than buying Messi from his own pocket money like Abramovic or the PSG guy do. To reach that goal, you first need to compete in Europe, and given the new regulations, you can't compete unless you have the books in order. It's a slow, uphill struggle. Roma in this case is the example to follow, locally.
