Inter beat Livorno 2-0 thanks to a Francesco Bardi howler and Javier Zanetti made his comeback.

The Nerazzurri were fresh from a 3-0 victory away to Udinese, but Walter Samuel stepped in for the suspended Juan Jesus. Livorno were decimated, as Leandro Greco, Andrea Coda and Leandro Rinaudo were banned with Marco Biagianti injured. Several of their players, including Francesco Bardi and Alfred Duncan, are on loan from Inter.

Massimo Moratti was in the stands and the ultras unveiled a long banner thanking him for his 18 years at the helm. “The greatest joys and the most embarrassing setbacks. 18 years wrapped up in 12 questions. We often attacked you, but never abandoned... Despite it all, we have something in common, the undeniable love for Inter... Being too much of a fan is sometimes damaging. Now we await with curiosity... But in the meantime, thank you for everything President, you deserve it. At the end of the day, we cared for you.”

Esteban Cambiasso got a knock to the head and needed treatment after a dizzy spell, but was able to continue. Jonathan and Rodrigo Palacio turned wide with glancing headers from dangerous crosses down the right.

Inter were making precious little impact on Livorno’s defence, but were gifted an opener by one of their own players. Bardi made a hash of blocking a Jonathan cross and the 21-year-old goalkeeper deflected it into his own net under very little pressure. This was the third own goal the Nerazzurri have benefited from this season.

Paulinho and Luci had attempts off target, but Palacio threatened a second with his looping header on to the roof of the net. Palacio went down when he tried to shoot between two players, but the referee waved play on.

Bardi made up for his earlier error on the stroke of half-time, getting down to palm a Ricky Alvarez snapshot round the far post.

Marco Benassi came on for Duncan in the second half, one Inter-owned player for another. A powerful Emerson free kick flashed wide from distance, while Walter Samuel nodded a corner over the bar.

Valentini was in the right place for a decisive block on Palacio from point-blank range, and another Emerson set play was off target.

Ishak Belfodil made his return, having sat out a two-match ban, and Bardi smothered a well-worked Cambiasso effort. More bad news for Livorno, as Paulinho was booked for handball and will be suspended against Juventus. The Brazilian managed to get in front of his marker only to nod over the bar and Andrea Ranocchia’s header was straight at Bardi.

San Siro provided a standing ovation when Javier Zanetti made his comeback after rupturing his Achilles tendon in April. The 40-year-old came off the bench for the final minutes, six-and-a-half months after the injury medics said would require seven-to-nine months to heal.

However, Inter ended the game with 10 men, as Jonathan was stretchered off with cramp at the 87th. Nonetheless, they still added to their tally. Zanetti sparked the move with a forward run, then Mateo Kovacic threaded through for Yuto Nagatomo’s shot on the half-volley.

6 months ago, I was wondering if we would ever see our beloved captain again in San Siro, on the field. What a fool I was! What a fool I was not to believe that if there is one player in this world, that at the tender age of 40, could ever make a comeback, that player was out CAPITANO. If there is one player that did not deserve to end his career that way, that player is Javier Zanetti.

The message the curva gave Moratti was also a touching one. The game was not one of the best we've played this season, but honestly, I couldn't care much about the game, except for getting 3 points. For some supporters football is just a game where winning is all that counts. On my book, there are other aspects of the game that come first, since, football (especially Inter) has always meant much much more than just a game to me.

Man City bid £20m for Handanovic?

Manchester City are reportedly offering £20m for Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic to replace Joe Hart.

The Citizens are looking for a new shot-stopper after dropping Hart from their starting XI due to a series of errors.

According to English media Talksport, their primary target is Inter goalkeeper Handanovic.

It wouldn’t be the first time the Slovenia international has been linked with a move, as he was also of interest to Barcelona and Manchester United.

Handanovic is even more of an intriguing option for City in January because Inter are not in Europe this season, so he would be eligible for the Champions League.

The 29-year-old has been in Italy since joining Udinese in 2004, playing for Treviso, Lazio and Rimini.

He was sold to Inter for £10.5m in July 2012.

Not sure who we would get to replace him. Money should not be the main factor now that we have the Indo money. Maybe there is more to this considering there is rumours that we are interested in Dzeko. Swap perhaps? Who knows, we have been linked with so many peeps now Thohir's money has become official.

We already have Handa's substitute. It's all a matter of whether he's ready to make the jump and whether we're ready to allow him this jump (not sure which one is the most difficult).

I am all for Bardi becoming our no.1, however I just can't see him being that next year unfortunately.

I don't know if it is a good thing that the President is a person that will visit Italy 3 /4 times a year. In any case, I am really hoping he does all his best to transform Inter into an even bigger club. This is what I expect from him.

I am not expecting the passion that Moratti had. Nor am I expecting that he is going to put in the money that Moratti put in ... however, I am expecting a much better functioning club. I am expecting the club to be run as a company and not a family owned business. I am expecting new sources of revenue, a new stadium and proper people at the proper places. A great speech by Moratti too; "L'Inter è un sentimento senza eguali" ...
His love for the club was indeed huge ... I am glad that he has retained a minor share to safeguard the club's tradition.

Sad day for me, Moratti was one of the least flawed Italian owners of recent times. I think he was the only one that i didn't think was a complete nutter.

I can only hope that Thorir or whatever his name is leads you guys to many 6th place finishes.
