Yes, Davit. If that's shoulder-to-shoulder then Benatia has some pretty weird anatomy. As does Meggiorini, I suppose. 1000 times out of a 1000 that gets given as a push in the back.
It was not. of course, the only such incident. It was pretty striking how little protection Banti was giving Borriello in the second half; it was hardly a surprise when he chose not to pick out the fouls in Pjanic and Maicon.
Yes, looks like its pretty clear cut alright. My first viewing of it was that Meggiorini was just stronger and got the best of Benatia, but there is a clear hand into the back there. The ref had the perfect view of it, too, running up straight behind them. Benatia wasn't helped, though, by the ongoing tussle between the two of them leading up to that. Is started with some pushing and shoving in the box, I think, the way it usually does, and then Benatia had a hard tackle on him in which he got the ball but maybe followed through on him a bit. Banti played on, and Meggiorini was moaning etc, and quite often what happens in these situations is the ref tries to even things up. Watching the game, I didnt want to blame the ref and never like doing that, but he did get some things very wrong.
It looked like a borderline call at the time - I certainly expected the ref to give it.
I don't have much sympathy for Benatia, though, because he had misjudged the flight of the ball and got himself into a situation that he shouldn't have.
red, the ball might have swerved more than he had anticipated it to, but he had the play totally under control until he got shoved in the back. full sympathy from me.
and just for the record, ventura is a proper cunt.
Roma's forgotten man Mattia Destro is closing in on a return to full fitness as he rejoined the rest of the squad for training on Tuesday for the first time in six months, but is not expected to be back in first team action until at least next month.
The striker has never been in contention for a first team place under Rudi Garcia, who has mentioned on a number of occasions that he is looking forward to having Destro available for selection. A comeback looks to be closer now though as he trained normally with the rest of the team today doing training exercises and taking part in the practice match.
During the last six months Destro has been working for seven hours a day in the swimming pool and doing physiotherapy work, and has been on a strict diet in order not to gain weight during his time on the sidelines. He was recently given the all clear to return to training by Dr Cugat in Barcelona, and has now reportedly set himself the target of rejoining the squad for the home match against Cagliari later this month.
It has been a long, protracted layoff after he underwent an operation back in January for a meniscus tear sustained against Inter, an operation that was a "complete success" according to Roma's medical report. The report also stated the timeframe for his recovery was eight weeks - unfortunately for the former Siena player, it has taken considerably longer to overcome his problems.
The 22-year-old was back in action by April but did not complete 90 minutes of a game until the final game of the season against Napoli, before playing the Coppa Italia final a week later. He was deemed fit enough to be taken to the European Under-21 Championships with Italy, but the condition in which he left the Azzurrini has been hotly debated. Roma believed Destro had suffered a relapse while he was with the national team, while their team doctor maintained that they had sent the striker back to the Giallorossi in better shape than before.
Despite his long layoff Destro and Roma have remained patient, not wanting to rush the youngster back from injury too quickly in order to prevent another relapse. Although he may be back among the convocati for Cagliari, a return to first team action is not expected before Milan on 15 December at the earliest - though a return following the winter break seems more likely.
lol, cool, nice spot. I seen already that that image was tweeted/posted all over the place by other people (without any mention for the original). Gervs does like to interact with fans which is cool.
Roma captain Francesco Totti is unlikely to play again in 2013 despite showing signs of improvement on his return from injury.
It was initially suggested that the 37-year-old could return to playing action in early December, but it is now expected that Er Purpone will return after the Christmas break.
Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Totti will definitely miss the Giallorossi’s trip to the San Siro to play AC Milan on December 16 but could be in the squad for the Lupi’s last match of 2013 against Catania on December 22.
The forward is also being tipped to return for Roma’s visit to Turin to play Juventus on January 6 in order to avoid further injury repercussions for the second half of the season.
Totti recently signed a new two-year contract to commit his future to the Stadio Olimpico until 2016, by which time he will be 39.
AS ROMA NEWS – “Giallorossi midfielder Miralem Pjanic talked to Sky Sport ahead of Sunday afternoon’s home match against Sassuolo: “All teams try to win every game, as we did, but then it is very difficult. We drew the last, we got 31 points out of 33, it is a great start to the season but we must not forget that the two teams behind us did the same.
Will AS Roma keep this pace? “I do not see why not. Now Sassuolo before the break and want to stay where we are. AS Roma will fight for the first three places until the end, especially seeing where we are now.”
The contract? “I still have a year and a half and I’m still here, then we’ll see what happens, I’m really fine here and the club knows it, then when the time comes we’ll talk.”Are you confident, is there the desire to stay? “The club knows what I think.”
The coach? “The harmony between us and the coach was immediately perfect before starting the season when we talked about our goals he let me know that he wanted to give an important role and I have to deserve it, I felt confident and I felt that he was a coach who could make me grow, he has done well giving confidence to us all, that’s why we play so well.”
Will you hope for a draw between Juventus and Napoli? “It would be a good result, but we must win in the afternoon then what happens, happens, we want to open up the gap.”
Are Juventus and Napoli still the favourites? “Yes, they have great squads, they are favourites from the beginning of the season. It was said from the beginning that they were the favourites and they still are.”

Roma youngsters Gianluca Caprari and Federico Ricci have been on the fringes of first team action for some weeks now under coach Rudi Garcia, and the pair spoke to Roma Channel on Thursday about their experiences with the senior side so far this season.
Caprari has already appeared seven times for Roma in all competitions, while Ricci is yet to make his debut, and they were keen to say that they are working hard and continuing to learn from their team-mates as they try to earn a place in the starting XI.
Today was a long training session, more than two and a half hours. Caprari: When the coach has just one training session [rather than two a day] it does take a bit longer, but his training sessions are always enjoyable.
You work a lot but are very composed. Ricci: We did the usual practice matches, but there is a point to them. Every team wants to win and make fun of the others. We always try to win and enjoy ourselves. All of us always give our best, that's important.
Garcia has brought in new training methods... Caprari: It's good because he makes everyone feel relaxed. The group has always been very compact and united.
What does the coach ask of you? Ricci: To always give our best. He gives us advice, which is the right thing. He always wants us to give our all in training because that's very important so that we can do well in a game.
What does he ask from a tactical perspective? Caprari: To us wingers he asks that we play a lot for the team, to always be on the move. He doesn't want us to be standing still.
He is definitely keeping you in mind to make an appearance soon... Caprari: Yes, he is considering us. I hope that the opportunity arrives as well, because that was my aim when I came back here.
Did you expect to be regularly alongside the first team so much? Ricci: I hoped so, then this small dream came true and I'm enjoying it. I'm trying to make the most of the chance in training, I'm doing my best to get my debut, which would be an indescribable moment.
What is the feeling of being on the bench? Ricci: At the start it was something different, surprising, fantastic. Then you get used to it and you think about the game, about the movement of the players on the pitch and about supporting Roma.
What is this coach's secret? Caprari: It's the group. In any squad the group is fundamental. Players who were giving 10 per cent last year are giving 100 per cent now, and it's the coach who has given them this shock.
What is your relationship like with the others? Ricci: Really good, we're very close. You can joke with everyone, I have a good relationship with everyone. No one gets bored of each other. To be able to train with them is fantastic and even to go up against players of this level is important so that you can watch their movements and their technique first hand, so that I can try it on the pitch one day.
Is there anyone in particular who gives you advice? Caprari: No, everyone does. It's a team that talks a lot, everyone gives each other help.
Ricci: Yes it's true, everyone from Gianluca to the captain can give me advice. We're very close and we give each other advice.
Who is the player who inspires you the most? Ricci: Gianluca! No, really, because in the youth teams he did really well and scored a lot of great goals, he was the difference. I was hoping to be able to copy his performances. But my idol since I was a child has always been Totti. But I try to pick up things from everyone.
Caprari: I've been playing now for two years and I try to be myself and to watch great champions.
