So we play Thursday against Chievo. Our depth will really be tested now. Hopefully we get Gervs back. (Although i think they said 2 weeks)

To add to it we have Pjanic, DDR, Benatia and Castan 1 yellow away from suspension. Let's hope all of them can avoid a yellow midweek or we'll have a real crisis on the weekend.

Michael-a Bradley-a! Get in there. Super win. Was away for the weekend in Madrid (great city, good craic for el Classico on Sat night) so missed it, although watched it there. It was a good all round game – you can't win them all in spectacular fashion – but most importantly we showed great resolve not to fall apart after going to 10 men. Rode our luck at times maybe, but showed great character to fight on and took all three points when the conventional would be to shut up shop and get out with the 0-0.

1. what we're seeing today is a bit like what happened with the players when andreazolli was appointed. zeman's man-management had been so ruthless and shite that a quite ordinary smile from andrea sparked an incredible response from the players and created a visible feel-good atmosphere. something similar is happening with rudi, but mosty with football rather than man-management.

2. benatia has been the signing of the season in serie a. i can think of a couple of CB pairings in europe that are better than him and castan (e.g. silva / marcos), but rudi has made daniele / mehdi / leandro a trident that some of the best defenses in europe can't match (e.g. silva / marcos / motta (even in likability)). the goal we conceded wasn't their fault-totti didn't track back to pick up gargano at the half-way line, which dragged ljajic out of position and allowed cassani a free cross from a great position; the header was from a terrible angle and distance but biabiany's connection was near perfect and it's hard to put any real blame on castan for not getting to it first. biabiany must feel like a boss after 9 rounds. almost every other defensive mistake is down to individual full-back errors. sure we've gotten lucky 5 or 6 times on our end of the pitch (is 1 GA in 9 serie a games possible without luck?) but make no mistake, we have deserved every ounce of it.

3. sorry dcg, but strootman was worth the 20m. thank god van gaal wasn't the psv coach or he would've cost double that figure and been worth it too.

4. de sanctis / balzaretti / de rossi / florenzi / totti. can't really ask to get more roman or italian that that.

5. in terms of what an attacking partnership helps bring out from two players, totti-gervinho has to be one of the best in serie a, maybe the world. without them it's often hard to see where our goal is going to come from, but every single time the boys show grinta and eventually find a way to demoralize the opposition, get them on their knees and deliver the imminent slap of the cock.

I agree that Benatia has to be the signing of the season so far. I was only thinking today that he has in fact probably been our most important player on this glorious start to the season. DDR and Totti are of course key players for us – the former is back to his best and in this form is the best player in the world in his position, while the latter has been doing his magic for years – but its been in defence where we've been most fragile over the last few seasons, but now Benatia is the rock of our defence. He's formed a good partnership with Castan, and DDR is also an integral part to the defence. There's also a great unity, a greater team spirit, which makes everyone work hard and contribute to defending, but Benatia himself has looked liked the complete defender, even showing he has the technical ability to player further up the field. We may be 9 wins from 9, but conceding only one goal is arguably much more impressive.

Crotone's Stefano Pettinari Dreams Of Roma Return

Crotone's Stefano Pettinari has revealed he would love to follow in the footsteps of Alessandro Florenzi by succeeding at the Serie B side and returning to boyhood club Roma.

The Roman born midfielder is currently co-owned with Crotone and has played 66 times for the club, scoring 12 times including two in the last two games, but is trying to remain focused on succeeding with the Pitagorici before thinking about a return to Roma.

"I can't deny that to go back and wear the Roma shirt is my dream. I can't hide that", Pettinari confessed to tuttomercatoweb.

"But I also think that it's too early to be thinking about the future and I have to thank my agent Alessandro Lucci who helps me day after day to remain focused and always with my feet on the ground".

Pettinari has been with the Calabrian side since 2011, and in his first season at the club Alessandro Florenzi played alongside him before going back to Roma and becoming both a key member of the side and an Italian international. For Pettinari though, emulating his former team-mate is not part of his thoughts just yet.

"It would be great to play alongside him again, but it's still a long way off. I hope I deserve [an Italy shirt] - it's one of my aims. I'd be delighted with a call up".

Pettinari's Crotone have started the Serie B campaign well and are currently fourth in the table, six points behind undefeated leaders Virtus Lanciano, but the midfielder is not getting carried away with hopes of promotion.

"We have to keep our feet on the ground first of all. It's still too early to talk about our aims. We're waiting at least until the first half of the season is over - Serie B is a very particular championship.

"We've started very well, but I think in the long run teams like Palermo, who have a team of a high level, could come through".

One way or another though, the 21-year-old will be hoping to play in Serie A next season.

I think it's a mistake to keep playing the same guys, especially for 3 games in 8 days.

I imagine he was hoping that Juve and/or Napoli would drop points. Hopefully we can get up a few goals early and rest some of our MFers right after the half.
