Pretty good effort from Milan tonight, given that it was their first game.

Was all a bit loose and open to start with and their goal came against the run of play. After about thirty minutes, though, Milan started to settle and became more compact and retained the ball better.

They really should have won the game given the way the controlled large chunks of the second half.

The fitness levels were impressive, too. I thought Milan were in trouble when they conceded the equaliser, because I thought PSV would have a significant advantage in the last twenty minutes or so due to having played a few games. That didn't prove to be the case, though, and Milan looked the stronger team and the side more likely to get a winner late on.

They shouldn't have any great difficulty in getting through from this position.

yeah, i'm pretty happy that we were able to keep up for the full 90.

we struggled in the beginning, psv's youthful exuberance gave them just enough to control the tempo. 20 mins in we started slowing the game down and getting some 'movements' going, we still struggled in the middle of the field, but we were able to prevent psv from getting into our third of the field. goal came at a good time, from whatever luck we had in creating it, it was a low blow against psv's enthusiasm.

pretty disappointed about giving up such a stupid goal, i've forgotten the number of times abbiati has lost points for us. he's made fantastic saves over the years that have saved some results, but at the same time he offers more risk than he does benefits.

also disappointed to see poli get less than 20 mins, he put himself in some great positions and nearly scored the winning goal. he's got the energy and the technique to be our 'box-to-box ball player' that we've needed for years. hopefully he starts the next game.

I had some sympathy for Abbiati on the goal last night.

It's one that will be viewed as a howler, but it's actually a very difficult shot to deal with.

Just should have focused more on pushing the ball away a bit more to the side.

then verona realized that we start to suck when they start stepping out of their third of the field.

fuck allegri, not enough movement from the forwards, he needs to work harder on these forward movements.

I can see why Milan were caught off-guard by Toni's cunning moves to the back post.

It's not like he's ever done that before...

Well, Luca's had a career of people knowing what he was going to do and still not being able to stop it.

It's always understandable where Luca Toni scores against you because he is simply too big for a defender to handle.

Allowing him two free headers is a rather different matter, though.

you guys think abbiati shouldv'e come out for toni's head on the corner? it was a ballooned cross inside the 6 yard box, i think the gk could've done something about that.

He was more at fault for the second goal. His positioning was terrible for a near post header.

C'era una volta il grande Milan. In campo e sul mercato. Da qualche anno la musica è cambiata, la famiglia Berlusconi ha chiuso i rubinetti, Galliani è costretto a fare mercato con giocatori low cost, con affari dell'ultimo minuto, o con i soldi delle cessioni, e solo grazie alla sua esperienza e alle sue doti di manager di prima fascia, è riuscito a centrare dei colpi, vedi Balotelli, e a tenere il Milan competitivo. Impossibile in nothing, recitava un celebre sport, ma nel calciomercato non è sempre così. Se non hai soldi non puoi trattare i grandi giocatori. Semplice, lineare. E in quest'estate il Milan se n'è accorto una volta di più.

E così Galliani, per due volte, è stato superato dalla Roma, che fino a qualche tempo fa non aveva la forza economica rossonera. L'ad del Milan ha trattatato Strootman, ma non ha potuto ingaggiarlo, come confessato alla stampa: "Lo avremmo preso noi, ma 20 milioni sono troppi in questo momento per il Milan". Troppi anche 12 milioni di euro per Ljajic, obiettivo rossonero che la Firoentina ha ceduto alla Roma, dopo che il Milan aveva proposto 8 milioni di euro pagabili in 4 anni, cercando di raggiungere prima l'accordo con il serbo. Le sconfitte non sono finite qui, Sabatini sta superando Galliani anche nella corsa ad un centrale di difesa: Sakho e Astori, obiettivi del Milan, per cui la Roma offre di più.Ancora una volta.

one helluva result, one which we really needed.

it was a game of passive domination, we got the ball into some dangerous situations, and psv helped with their uncontrolled enthusiasm going forward.

psv showed more energy and technical ability, but they never really were able to break us through the middle. we had good height in the middle with mexes and zapata, so we let them dance on the flanks all night, although they did manage to overload us on one occasion early in the second half when abbiati saved us 30m euros with that block. credit given where it's due.

i thought balotelli had a great game, he dropped into space, drew fouls, held the ball long enough for players to get into position and probably had one of his most effective games as milan player to date. el sharaawy seemed to be back to his 'best', although i still don't rate him as a potential world-beater. boateng chipped in with 2 fluke goals, he had an unimpressive performance beyond them, fairly standard from him.

after the game galliani came out and said that we are in the market for a number 9, (most reports saying we've got matri in the bag) which would be a poor decision in my opinion. i can see that pazzini won't be back until october, but once he's back we're gonna have a squad much greater than 25.

i hate the fact that our 'major' injuries happen during transfer windows, and the club ends up making a panic buy and it just swells up the roster. why did we bring in silvestre when sakho is on the market, at least he's got some potential.

window is nearly up in a few days, let's see if we make any final deals, the end is always the funnest.

i do not understand this.

for a club who considers 12m euros a lot of money on today's market, to spend that much on a 29 year old striker who has already peaked and who will most likely be a third choice striker is an absolute waste of money.

this move is beyond dumb and is incredibly short-sighted. this automatically makes our transfer market rating a big fat F.

and now kaka' has put himself on the market.

i can only imagine that allegri is looking for a striker that can create some depth for balotelli, going back to a 2 striker formation. i wouldn't mind it, i think balotelli would be pretty good as a second striker. he can drop into space, be able to turn and continue an attack quite easily; if he has somebody in front to occupy the CB's, he might be even more effective.

i'm not sure if i'm for kaka', if he drops his salary significantly to prove that he's playing for the love of the jersey, i'll welcome him with open arms. but if he comes as our highest paid player at 31 years old, it will be a huge joke. we cannot afford such a gamble.
