Rolando all set for Inter

Portuguese stopper Rolando is on the verge of joining Inter from Porto, claim Sky Sport Italia.

The two clubs have agreed a loan deal for the 27-year-old who spent the second half of last season at Napoli.

The defender is expected to touch down in Italy on Friday for his medical.

New Inter boss Walter Mazzarri knows the individual well given that he was in charge of Napoli during 2012-13.

The Portuguese international, though, was used in just nine games at the Stadio San Paolo by the tactician.

Moratti: Inter-Thohir talks continuing

Inter chief Massimo Moratti says that talks regarding the sale of his outfit will continue into the second half of August.

There were suggestions that Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir was just a matter of days away from buying a majority share in the Beneamata.

“To close a deal we need to agree on everything,” the oil baron stated outside of his offices in Milan. “There’s talk of continuing after mid-August.

“There are some things which are definitely still pending.

“I believe we’ll proceed by continuing to exchange information. The lawyers know more about it than I do, so I wouldn’t know what to tell you.

“Right now everything is tied to something else, so it all still has to be evaluated and examined. Then in the end we have to come to a general agreement.”

Speculation suggests that Moratti would still hold a position at San Siro, while former boss Leonardo could come in as a director.

“Will I still be President? We’ll see what is necessary for the club. As for Leonardo, right now it’s not something being discussed. Nor do I believe he’s been contacted by anyone else, which would have been something strange.”

Turning to matters on the field of play, Moratti was pleased with the recent penalty shoot-out win over Juventus.

“We saw an Inter with meaning and structure that looked good on the pitch, and one in which every player could express himself a bit better because he had the legs to do so.

“But now, however, I imagine the right intensity in training has started again, so I hope we’ll be ready. But now I don’t know with Real Madrid coming up…”

Chivu to rescind at Inter?

Cristian Chivu’s agent will reportedly meet Inter to discuss the possible termination of his contract at San Siro.

The Romanian international, now 32, could have his agreement rescinded by mutual consent before the season starts.

The defender is only tied to the outfit until June 2014, but there are fears over his fitness given his continuing ankle problems.

The former Roma player, signed by the Nerazzurri in 2007, has only appeared in 24 League games over the last two seasons.

Some stories are suggesting that the former Ajax man may even be considering retirement.

Where do you think Rolando (always think he is a PES version of Ronaldo )) fits in the Inter squad?

Is he brought in to be backup in the centre and right of defence or is he to start ahead of Ranocchia in the middle - and will that result in the sale of Ranocchia, what with him being one of Inter's few players of value?

Rolando was brought (only on loan) because Samuel has suffered an injury & Chivu has had yet another lengthy injury which might end his carreer (hopefully). As Mazzarri said, Rolando gives him an extra option along with Andreolli.
Our starters will always be JJ-Rano-Campagnaro, though it's not clear who is a starter in Mazzarri's mind when Samuel is fit.
Had we had the real intention to sell Ranocchia, we would have landed Dragovic. Rolando is just a 1 year loan deal.

Apparently we have offered Eto'o 4.5 mil a season for the next two years with an option for a third. Hmmmmm....

We probably need a good striker, whether it's Eto'o or Osvaldo...but am I the only one to find it funny that we'd be willing to spend money on yet another forward (after buying Icardi, Belfodil & Botta) whereas we're not willing to spend a Euro on the positions which hypothetically are occupied by Zanetti (once back) & Cambiasso? I'm starting to hate the guys just as much as I used to 'love' them previously. And I'm hating the President even more for allowing them to do as they please without taking into consideration the actual needs of the squad.

Chivu agent wants quick termination

Cristian Chivu’s agent has admitted that the defender is likely to leave Inter soon, and will almost certainly move to Russia.

The veteran’s deal at San Siro is set to expire next summer, but the 32-year-old’s representative has confirmed that talks are underway with the Nerazzurri for an early termination.

“Chivu could leave Inter,” Victor Becali told Russian newspaper Izvestia.

“We just need to find a satisfactory agreement for the early termination of the contract.”

Dynamo Moscow have been strong favourites to sign Chivu, who’s Coach Dan Petrescu has the same agent as the full-back.

Wallace out of Inter's Coppa tie

Inter named their squad for Sunday’s Coppa Italia tie with Cittadella, including Rolando and Mateo Kovacic, but Wallace is out.

The Nerazzurri play at San Siro tomorrow evening, kicking off their Third Round clash at 17.30 UK time.

Kovacic has returned from injury and Rolando is part of the side, but Wallace still needs fitness work after his loan move from Chelsea.

Coppa: Inter crush 10-man Cittadella
Rodrigo Palacio scored a brace to send Inter through to the Coppa Italia Fourth Round, beating 10-man Cittadella 4-0.

The Nerazzurri were forced to start the campaign so early because they finished ninth in Serie A last season and welcomed Serie B side Cittadella to San Siro in front of 17,300 people. They will face newly-promoted Serie B team Trapani in the next round.

Jonathan opened the scoring with a move that he started and finished, winning back the ball before getting his head to a Fredy Guarin cross from the right.

Samir Handanovic was also forced into a great save on Di Roberto’s screamer, while Cittadella goalkeeper Di Gennaro – who is on loan from Inter’s youth academy – parried from a Ricky Alvarez header.

Palacio was clear on goal at the half-hour mark and brought down by Pecorini for both a penalty – which La Trenza himself converted – and a red card.

It should’ve been 3-0 moments later, but Palacio incredibly fired wide when sent through by 33rd birthday boy Esteban Cambiasso and Guarin also wasted with a half-volley over the bar.

Despite being down to 10 men, Cittadella continued to threaten and Handanovic flew to fingertip a long-range Dumitru effort out from under the bar.

Guarin misplaced his assist for an unmarked Mauro Icardi and Di Gennaro performed a fantastic save to deny Jonathan’s brace.

Palacio added a third goal with a well-worked move, running on to a Guarin through ball to surprise defenders.

Andrea Ranocchia made it 4-0 against 10-man Cittadella by meeting a corner, though Dumitru probably should’ve cut out the cross.

Handanovic was again called to keep out the lively Di Roberto and Pellizzer’s header whistled wide. Bad news for Walter Mazzarri, as Icardi limped off with an ankle problem five minutes from time, so both sides ended with 10 men.
