We lost 2-0 yesterday against Chelsea but we played much better than the scoreline suggests. Like all Mou's teams, Chelsea took their chances well. An excellent goal by Oscar and a non-existent penalty. Other than conceding the first goal in a counterattack where it was a 3 on 3 situation, we were pretty compact at the back. Looks like Mazarri is first trying to get the defensive side of things in order because the attack was pretty poor.
Icardi was invisible most of the game. Palacio did all the running and Icardi was mostly static. He needs to improve his movement a lot. Both, Palacio and Icardi are not the tallest and posed no aerial threat. Considering we play with wing backs I think Belfodil would be a better bet, Terry and Cahill got first to every aerial threat.
We need Kovacic in midfield, we miss his quick accurate short passes and movement. Alvarez wasn't bad but we need a Kovacic kind of player to create and maintain the tempo. We definitely need reinforcements in midfield.
Thought Conte made some interesting remarks the other day.
Was speaking about how the important thing for Juve is to keep steadily building and growing i.e. not winning the title or going far in the CL wouldn't be the end of the world.
Said he wouldn't want to win like Inter did when they won the treble and it just be a one off and there be no foundations laid down for longer-term success to be sustained.
Easy to say when there is no prospect of Juve winning the treble, I suppose.
Moratti svela: "Thohir, ecco perché ho scelto così. Io? Resto solo se..."
Fonte: Gazzetta dello Sport
“Imbarazzato? No, anzi...
Ti costringe a cambiare indirizzo e abitudini manageriali.
President Massimo Moratti explains why he decided to sell part of Inter to Indonesian magnate Erick Thohir. “I am worried about the future of the club.”
The negotiations with the Indonesian businessman are a very advanced stage, though it’s still not clear what percentage of the club he is going to sell.
“Ernesto Pellegrini is right when he said you have to love a club. I know something about that...” Moratti told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Nostalgia is by definition behind you. I decided to look to the future. People keep talking about debts, but that is the wrong perspective. Inter have similar debts to other big clubs and I am not worried about those, as I could easily continue covering it myself.
“The real problem is revenue. Those are the resources necessary for development. I am worried about the future of the club. That’s all apart from the expansion of the brand on the international market, which also has to be done.
“For years Italian football – and I take my share of the blame here – won on the field in Europe, but played entirely on home turf in financial terms. And we lost.
“Clubs were built entirely on TV rights and transfers. Those are necessary too, but today we’re incapable of forming a system with modern stadiums and formats that can attract planetary interest. Building the brand abroad is a long, difficult and expensive process with very strong competition.
“For example, the introduction of an Asian club is fundamental to bring home that marketplace. It forces you to change your managerial habits and opens up international resources. It makes you more international than winning the Treble.”
Inter have struggled since securing the Champions League, Scudetto and Coppa Italia in 2010, including plummeting revenue.
“It was an immense joy and an equally immense wasted opportunity,” confessed Moratti.
“You see, Inter are like a daughter, a beautiful girl with extraordinary abilities, so you give her everything she wants to make her happy. But the time comes when it’s opportune to send her to college. Discipline and education are fundamental for her growth. It’s the only way she’ll learn to walk on her own two feet.
“Inter enormously sliced into the wage bill and infrastructure costs, but this is pointless if the revenue also shrinks. This isn’t an issue of survival for Inter, but rather development and strong innovation. Inter are worth so much more than what their revenue suggests and have to make the most of the brand internationally if the club wants a future in line with its tradition.
“Believe me, I am acting in the interests of the fans. Inter will be managed in a modern and international way. If needed, I will remain to give my contribution, but please let’s not make me into a myth. Presidents as symbols can become a blockage at some point...”
I had the very good fortune of seeing us getting trashed by Valencia. We were 1-0 down before even half of them got to their seats.
Only two points of consolation were that, MIlan lost too and Silvestre is still shit.
On a side note, Moratti is completely right about the fact that internationalizing the club is the way forward. Among the 4 teams there, Chelsea had the most support even though Milan, Inter and (probably even) Valencia have more trophies and history of winning on their side.
Did anyone watch yesterday's match? After the bad performance against Valencia I opted not to start awake till 00:30 to watch the match. Apparently there was some improvement.
One good thing that has come out from these early friendlies is that we will not be playing Chelsea, Valencia and similiar teams in the Serie A but rather Juve, Napoli, Milan etc ... all teams which have sucked almost as much as us till now.
I did watch the game yesterday and we were pretty good for the first 60 minutes. We had one man more in midfield because of Alvarez playing as a second striker rather than Palacio, and I have to say Alvarez had a good game.We got more midfielders in the box and at the end of Palacio's passes when he drifted out wide, which we sorely lacked against Valencia.
Alvarez was pushed back when Kuz came off for Belfodil and his influence diminished. Fitness levels considering, this may be a conundrum for Mazzari to solve.
Another player that impressed me was Olsen. This kid has the good makings of a regista and even at this age has the composure and nerves to play for the first team. I think we should give him a chance.
The penalties to end the game where fun to watch. Icardi did a paneka right after Pirlo took his penalty. Carrizo saved Isla's penalty and blasted an unstoppable shot to win it for us. This means absolutely nothing but it was just fun to watch Carrizo.
Yeah, I watched the first half and was quite impressed with how quickly Inter got support up to Palacio when they won the ball back. It's usually Juve's midfield that is bursting beyond the opposition midfield, rather than the other way round.
Admittedly, Inter had the extra man in there, but they still played the system pretty well.
It's funny that we had an extra man in there, considering Cambiasso was playing...it's usually the other way round. Haven't seen the match either, but I got the same feedback as you guys. The fact that we're getting more midfielders into the box seemed evident even against Hamburg (was it Hamburg we played a couple of weeks back?). Seems like Alvarez has played quite a nice match and also this Olsen. Wish we could give him a chance to prove himself. Also heard that Campagnaro was instrumental back there. Now if we can get some decent wing-backs, we'd be a little more competitive...
