Gervs was a good player at Lille and really good the first few weeks of his time at Arsenal. I think he began to do to much (not sure if he was asked to do too much) If he sits on the wing then maybe he can be a good player.

I'm far more worried about what type of player Strootman is going to be and the implications for DDR.

i'm surprised you guys aren't that excited about strootman, although i can understand the suppressed reaction.

this kid was linked with all the big clubs, but for some reason ended up at roma. there might be a chink in his armor, but i think he will be a great player next to de rossi (hopefully).

Ahh.. I miss the pre-season doom and gloom around here.

Hope you fella's are doing fine around here. I know I haven't frequented at all over the last year or so.. but its been a busy period of time for me. I just actually moved out of Ottawa and into Toronto about 2 months ago, so just been settling in, and slowly getting back to a normal routine.

So on that note.. who's making the trek to watch the Roma friendly on the 8th? I'm sure it'll be lame compared to the real games - but its close to 2 years this fall - that I'll have not attended a game.. so I'm sure it'll be fun.

I never want to see anyone who ever captained United in a Roma shirt. They aren't fit to wear it.

I would like to see Verratti in a Roma shirt though. No sale of DDR and either Erikson or Verratti and I'd be a happy man going into the season.

Frankly, i can see a scenario where we sell Marcos to PSG for Verratti plus cash.

With Lopez gone i still think we are short at least one Prima Punta/Wing player. If Ozzy was sold then it would be an extremely pressing need.

Edinson Cavani day a Parigi. L’ex fuoriclasse del Napoli verrà presentato alla stampa nel tardo pomeriggio. El Matador ha firmato ieri un contratto faraonico da 10 milioni di euro (esclusi diritti di immagine) che lo legherà al Paris Saint Germain per i prossimi 5 anni. Non solo Cavani per il Psg. Il club dello sceicco Nasser Al-Khelaifi continua a fare la spesa in Italia e si è praticamente assicurato Marquinhos, giovanissimo talento classe ’94 della Roma. L’ex Corinthians verrà pagato ben 35 milioni di euro, cifra che il ds Sabatini utilizzerà per finanziare la campagna estiva giallorossa con l’arrivo di Maicon e quelli ormai certi di De Sanctis e Strootman.

Ma il calciomercato non è fatto solo di turbanti, petroldollari e colpi sensazionali. Alle razzie arabe che stanno sfalsando i valori del calcio internazionale si contrappongono trattative oculate e operazioni messe a segno da navigati dirigenti con budget limitati.

Il modello Udinese fa da contraltare al sistema mercenario di Psg e City, come testimoniano i risultati raggiunti dal patron Pozzo negli ultimi dieci anni. Mentre i top club europei basano la loro filosofia sullo sperpero di soldi in giocatori già formati e affermati, con risultati spesso tutt’altro che soddisfacenti, il presidente Pozzo e i suoi simili sono costretti a selezionare calciatori alle prime armi da qualsiasi angolo del pianeta, investendo laddove gli osservatori ritengano ci siano le basi per un futuro radioso.

Nessun team, infatti, forma un giocatore (Alexis Sanchez, Benatia e Zapata su tutti) per poi cederlo nelle vesti di campione allo sceicco di turno con conseguente plusvalenza faraonica. Il modello Udinese si fonda soprattutto su società satellite (Granada e Watford) che svolgono questo tipo di lavoro, dove le nuove leve maturano esperienza e competenza per poi costruire squadre competitive, restare in serie A e disporre anche di quelle risorse minime per poter esprimere del buon calcio alla Guidolin. Se non si opera in questo modo, in Italia e anche nel resto del mondo, si è destinati a scomparire. Basti ricordare le tante società gloriose di un tempo che navigavano costantemente in serie A e vincevano, mentre oggi non si sa neanche più se esistono.

Il doping finanziario imperat sovrano, mancano le regole e non esistono controlli. Molte società finiscono rapidamente in bancarotta e ciononostante continuano a disputare la Premier e la Liga. In Italia adesso ci sono regole ferree, le società che non le rispettano vengono penalizzate pesantemente in classifica. Il paradosso è che tra un imprenditore serio e uno che non guarda al bilancio è quello serio a non andare lontano. Se questa è la logica da seguire il sistema calcio è destinato a morire. Nei prossimi anni sarà necessario più equilibrio, meno disuguaglianza nei ricavi tra grandi e piccole squadre. Così, si renderà anche il calcio più bello.

Pjanic is my kind of player. He's smooth, fluid and technical. Yet, for me he's less than the sum of his parts when on the pitch.

He didn't get all the starts in France and hasn't under three different managers at Roma. I'm not going to be angry if he's sold especially if it means getting Verratti or Erikson as i believe they'll stay longer.

I did like what he said about the using criticism as motivation for this season. This team needs some anger. To use an American term most were born on third base and act like they hit a triple.
