I think the story at the time was that his role at the club had been encroached on by Sabatini and one of his favoured underlings. I forget the specifics. Certainly, though, there was a period of time when his future at the club seemed in doubt. The dates of those pieces tell their own stories, of course.

Is anyone else sick of the mercato madness yet? Marquinhos, Pjanic, Benatia, Nani (feck off), Gilardino, Curci (would have liked for him to be given a chance as our number 1, pity), Osvaldo, Nainggolan, Crescenzi (?). Then of course there's DDR. I think I'd be more than content if we signed no new players at all and just kept De Rossi (and fill the gaps with our youngsters – Cresenzi, Caprari, Verre etc).

I suppose Garcia will need time to assess the players in pre-season training before making any big decisions on what new players he would like.

We can't lure the 'right' players because we don't have any European football. And the Americans don't have much to do with the mercato: they provide the finances, of course, but thats left largely to Sabatini and (you would like to think) the manager.

I've always maintained I like to see our young homegrown players given the chance. Its not like we've been setting the world alight and winning titles with all the new players we've bought.

Today in Trigoria Rudi Garcia will meet all the members of his new staff. Among them there will be Simone Perrotta, who has accepted the proposal for a role as a link between the team and the societa. Along with him there will be Frederic Bompard (he will be the assistant manager) and Claude Fichaux (tactical), Guido Nanni (goalkeeping coach), Simone Beccaccioli (video analyst), Vito Scala and the new coach (former Lazio) Luigi Febbrari. There will also be Aurelio Andreazzoli, but his role has not yet been defined.

I'm glad Simone will be staying with the club. That is a really good decision on the part of the management, I think. (wow, I actually typed that!) As far as the mercato, I don't get high or low on those rumours any more.

So, as part of their N American trip, Roma will be playing in Toronto. I now have tickets to see Roma play TFC. Totally f*cked up Club, meet Totally f*cked up Club. The last time they played in Toronto, they had a new young blonde French defender ....

I'm not quite sure what his exact title is – "a link between the team and the societa", meaning he'll be close to the players but I don't think he'll be a coach or involved in training. More of a first team manager or organiser?
