Ha! I didn't know if you wanted me to take the bait or not. I was waiting for the resident Irishman to make some sort of confused comment wondering whether it was a photo of Ancelotti in his playing days etc etc. I figured you would be a fan given his association with Rome. I'm not a massive fan, but I do quite like him. I've only really been listening properly to him for about 18 months, I'd say, so I'm not quite certain of my ground.
He was pretty prominent in the Proms last year, I think - or perhaps as part of one of the other series of live concerts on Radio 3. I don't know if there was some kind of anniversary behind that or perhaps just the affection of one or other conductor. Red Bologna nicked him back, right?
I see he went to his position in Rome in 1913, but I doubt that's it - and it was last year, I think, rather than earlier this year. Probably it was just a conductor's choice.

So much for solving the ongoing issue of our number one goalkeeper. I guess many people thought Stek would do that, although I was never convinced.
Should we give Curci a go? He's probably not quite up to it, although I wouldn't mind if he was given a shot.
Apparently Garcia put the brakes on signing that Brazilian Rafael, as he wants an experienced keeper. Julio Cesar springs to mind. I wasn't all that keen when his name first came up, but I'd take him for sure. Experienced, solid, a good organiser and influence, still Brazil's number one, wouldn't be too expensive.
Interesting programme about Nakata (3 parts) after he retired from 2006. Quite the businessman, it seems. Good english, too. Bit of a steamer with the fashion stuff (part 3).
Pallotta: “De Rossi? We will see. Totti will always be part of AS Roma” Thursday, 27 June 2013 // 7:30 Pm / http://www.romanews.us/?p=3391
AS ROMA NEWS – “President Pallotta’s comments on air at 5:50 PM on Rai 2 during the sports section #ASR,” writes AS Roma on Twitter, instead his words have been broadcasted on Rai Sport 1 at 7 PM.
About the information request by the Guardia di Finanza from AS Roma headquarters, he said: “The only thing I know for sure, as I have been reported by my collaborators, is that we have nothing to do with this.”
About the new Giallorossi coach Rudi Garcia, he told: “I met him here in New York and after an hour I realized he was the right coach and that he would have stayed here for long.”
About De Rossi’s future: “We will see. All players are always on the market, it is the same as for my Celtics.”
About captain Totti: “He will always be part of AS Roma. Definitely he will play another year or two. “It is something that we have to discuss with him, I do not know if he wants to play up to 40. Then you will begin to ask me if he will play up to 50 (laughs, ed).”
Only a complete fuckwit would be open to selling De Rossi when you see tonight, yet again, how good he is in the two roles he played.
If Roma spent as much time thinking about how to allow De Rossi to recreate his Italy form for Roma instead of endlessly talking about selling him, they may get on rather better.
*I know Pallotta hasn't specifically said De Rossi is for sale in that article.
More stuff on a new stadio. Like many I've been very skeptical of any of these reports of a new stadio, but is there anything to look forward to with this latest development? They want to announce proper plans for it by the end of July, which isn't too far away.
New Roma Stadium Project Advances With Tor Di Valle Purchase LA REPUBBLICA (M. Pinci) - Friday, 28 June 2013 11:36
Now it's official - Eurnova, the company of investor Luca Parnasi, have bought the land of the Tor di Valle hippodrome. The final step before presenting the Roma stadium project to the commune, which will rise out of the ashes of the current hippodrome.
The countdown towards the closure of the site's buildings has already begun. SAIS, the now ex-owners, has a little over two weeks to deliver the keys to the site to the new owner, Parnasi, who became the "project manager" of making the Giallorossi stadium a reality during the contracts signed on 30 December last year in the United States. Not the builder, but the project assistant to the client.
The tracks of Tor di Valle will close from Monday, then from the following Saturday the buildings like the cafeteria and bar will be dismantled due to the necessity to clear everything, including the stables that held 150 horses. Doing it in very quick time is absolutely necessary to guarantee the work to the staff and the wellbeing of the animals. "After the resolution from Alemanno to reduce the fee from €1.5m to €66,000 in favour of the Hippogroup society that manages the Capannelle racetrack, there are no more excuses. Hippogroup built the tracks, took all the Tor di Valle workers and as a result of the sale has brought back some of those workers who left, who from the start have not joined in this operation". The ultimatum from Micarelli, from the Regional Secretariat of SLC CGIL, who has a meeting on Wednesday at 4pm with "the licenced workers to decide measures to be put in place if the inaction from the parties concerned continues".
Meanwhile Roma's work to realise their own stadium continues, which will be build in the Tor di Valle area: before the end of July, Pallotta and the directors Pannes, Fenucci and Baldissoni, who are following the project of architect Dan Meis, want to present their first master plan of the new structure. Then they will be able to discuss suggestions, evaluations and criticisms on planning and environmental aspects with the assessors Giovanni Caudo, Estella Marino and of course Mayor Marino. Elements which they can work on in order to present a detailed, definitive project in the autumn (probably around the end of September), held together by a strong union and with a four-year timescale. "A plan inspired by the Colosseum", is the only prediction that emerges from Roma. The first step is done.
isn't gilardino just the kind of striker we need? next year has to be destro's year - that means we can't get anyone too good (osvaldo, aubameyang) since mattia needs all the playing time he can get. he also needs to be the #1 choice and to know it. we can't get an unreliable striker either, because destro is our only forward and he won't play 90 minutes of every game - his bits and scraps will be more than that of most. a serie a experienced, hard-working striker who will take destro under his wing and not complain about being benched? this sounds like a solid, low-risk move by the management. besides, he's only 30 years old and just 60 goals away from overtaking totti in the scoring charts. we wouldn't want him to be bologna's star for the next couple of years and claim the #2 spot, would we?
Gilardino's an over-rated cunt. I bet Osvaldo didn't go to the Confederations Cup thing because Prandelli didn't want him performing too well and so boosting his price and so helping Roma out. Gila and Prandelli are cut from the same rectum-stinking cloth.
