Certainly hope we keep hold off Bertolacci, Caprari and Verre in some shape or form. I would like to keep Tachtsidis too.

Roma was on the market for years and no one was willing to sign on the dotted line. If you think these guys were bad then Soros and Hicks were much worse. At least Pallotta is a Sports Management guy. Guys talking about buying things and actually putting down the money are two VASTLY different things.

It's easy to complain about the ownership but Italo Zanzi has been in the job 6 months and so it's not really fair to judge him on the decisions made prior even if I can tell you that by the looks of him, i'd shield my children from him. He's in the position because he's made MLB and other employers a lot of money on Sponsor and distribution. That's important to a club these days, if he does that, i don't care about the rest.

"Make Roma the Biggest Club in the World". I'm not sure what you'd have them say, make them a Top 30 club? I mean one should aim for the top even if you don't believe you'll make it there.

One can't question the money spent, at this point you'd have to imagine that these guys are at least 100 mill in the hole. If it's been handled poorly then it does Roma little good, but at least it shows good intentions.


Now that i've gotten that out of the way:

Sensi seemingly did more with less.

The management and Coaching hires have been poor. Heck they've been poor and they are in a hurry to leave us...that's pretty telling.

Sabatini has yet to prove he can find us value from anyone over 20.

Our brand has fallen in relation to other clubs going from 16 to 24.

The value of the club, despite cash infusions have diminished (This has implications on the pitch)

The timing of some announcement have given the appearance that the business side of things trumps the footballing one.

Our finishing position has gotten worse.

Our record vs Lazio, which was our one bright spot under Sensi has gone to utter shit.

We have yet to win a game in Europe since the take over. (And Sensi at least got us there last year)

Rudi Garcia gave his first press conference as Roma coach on Wednesday afternoon after his unveiling by James Pallotta last week, and the Frenchman made no secret of his ambitions for the club and to get the Giallorossi back playing in Europe as soon as possible.

"We're happy and proud to present our new coach", CEO Italo Zanzi opened. "We announced him before president Pallotta but we also wanted to present him here in Rome. We're convinced that he is the right choice. He's a winner. We're working for next season and we can't wait to reveal more about it to you".

The floor then passed to Garcia, who took questions from the gathered journalists on topics from why he chose Roma to the club's transfer plans and whether there are any untouchable players in the squad. Here is the full interview.

Welcome mister, what's your impression of the Giallorossi environment?
I already know the city and it's rich with history. I'm now discovering the club - everyone knows about it, now I have a direct influence on it.

About the two leaders of the team, Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi - what role will they have in your Roma?
We need talented players and fortunately we have them here. Totti will have a fundamental role, on and off the pitch. De Rossi is an international player, and I have a great desire to meet him, as I do for the other Roma players.

Are you worried about the [lack of a] keeper? What ideas do you have about this?
We need a strong keeper, and we're working on this with [sporting director Walter] Sabatini.

You will have been told many things about Roma. Is there anything that scares you? De Rossi has had some hard words from Brazil, what would you tell him?
I'm not afraid of anything, I am here to win with a team that enjoys playing and entertaining the fans. I've sent a text to the players to tell them that I want to meet them soon. We'll work hard.

Before your announcement, there was talk about a lot of names. What was your path to Roma like, did you have any doubts?
I've been in contact with Roma for two years. It's an honour to be here, Roma are one of the most important teams in Europe. The most important thing isn't to be the team's first choice but to be the team's coach and establish yourself as such.

Why did you choose Roma, after doing well in France with Lille?
Thank you for the compliment about Lille, where we did the double by winning the league and the cup. My only regret is not saying goodbye to the fans. Now I'm at Roma and when Roma make you an offer, you cannot refuse.

About the players, are there any untouchables who you don't want to let go?
There is a squad with quality here, but despite that a team can always be improved. The objective is to get back into Europe, and I want to get to know them first.

What is your opinion about Pablo Osvaldo? Would you object to him being sold?
I don't want to talk about individual players, I'm working with Sabatini for next season. We'll see you again to tell you more.

What will be your influence on transfers? Will you make specific requests? Is De Rossi unsellable or can you do without him?
I've already answered about De Rossi, there's no need to go back over it. I'd say the same thing about Osvaldo, we are working together with the sporting director. Sabatini knows the Italian market well and we'll decide together - no one will come to Roma without my consent.

Will you change your tactical philosophy? Your teams have always had an uphill start and finished well.
It's true, my teams are a 'diesel', we have started badly but four times we have ended well and qualified for Europe. It's been a little bit of a trademark. My style of play won't change, as I simply think that if you play well you will have more chance of winning. To do well, it's always necessary to score one more goal than the opposition, but also to be attentive to the defensive aspects.

If you start badly, are you afraid of excessive pressure from the supporters?
The important thing is to get back into Europe, the league is a long marathon. I would have preferred to be playing in Europe but I acknowledge that.

PSG are a step away from Fabio Capello and he doesn't seem to be arriving into a league in decline - is France the new El Dorado of European football?
The French league is talked about a lot because of PSG and Monaco, who have the ability to spend a lot, but the Italian league is made up of a lot of sides, such as Roma.

You confirmed that you had contact with Roma two years ago, so you've since been following them. Have you got an idea of this team's problems and how to solve them?
The past doesn't concern me, I'm concerned about the present. I care about winning with Roma.

The previous coaches have had problems with discipline in the dressing room, will you impose rules?
Obviously to live together, rules are needed. There will be some and I will be the one in charge of AS Roma.

The directors have asked you to win before long. A tactical question about De Rossi - is he a regista in your opinion or does he need a regista alongside him to be at his best?Roma is a club that has to win, and I'm happy to be here to win. You said 'we will work hard'. Which staff will you work with? What will the training methods be?

Helenio Herrera has already coached in Italy, but I'm under the impression of being the first French coach in Italy. It's a fine recognition of the quality of French coaches for the French federation. I'll see you again soon in Lille for another press conference, where I'll go into this further.

The last time Roma succeeded, there was a coach who used an iron fist. How do you think you'll operate?
It's not the past that matters, everyone has their own way of working. Don't concern yourselves with the fact that hard work is required for results, it's obvious. The only truth will come off the pitch - the important thing is that Roma will have a collective spirit.

How do you feel in front of so many Italian journalists and photographers, is it that different to France?
It seems like it's a press conference before the decisive game for an important trophy.

It isn't necessary to give Roma a spirit, Roma already has a spirit - this isn't the problem. The important thing is that the team can hold onto something, that it plays for the joy of the players and the fans, that it wins something.

Just in a word? Ambitious.

When you spoke of Europe, are you talking of the Champions League as a minimum objective for Roma?
More importantly it's an aim of the game - the more we play well the more we can win. Roma must get back into Europe, if we do it by the front door then so much the better.

Disappointed to see Tachtsidis go, seen a lot of positives in him in being a tough, imposing and strong defensive player who was also decent on the ball and a had a nice pass. Think he could become a great player in a few years.

Good to have Verre and Caprari back, also Brighi will be returning. Bertolacci will also stay at Genoa on co-ownership. Must do a list up.
