I dunno, I see Marcquinhos as the only unearthed gem in that list. Pjanic and Lamela have far exceeded expectations? We paid full price for them.

I thought Steck was a good buy also and yet we all were surprised he'd come to us and at such a small cost. Now it makes sense, the other teams knew better.

I'm gonna guess we are the 4th highest spending team in Serie A these past 2 years. The other 3 all have trophies to show for it. 5,6,7,8 have all exceeded or matched our accomplishments. Including our City Rival who've made us their own personal punching bag. (Not the case prior to that, in fact quite the opposite.)

And our team is spotted DDR and Totti. Only Udinese with Toto have anything close to that.

And let's not forget who we've sold in that time as well.

I did say there was a hint of devil's advocate, DC But I didn't say anyone far exceeded expectations. Just that they were good signings.

You don't like Castan or Destro? I know the latter's had a tough first season, but I still have high hopes. And he was certainly in high demand when we picked him up, so I felt like his signing said something about the credibility of Roma. Obviously I was wrong there.

It's hard to know what we'd have done with someone else in Saba's position. The ability to make positive signings just wasn't there with Rosella, so I don't have anything to make a fair comparison with. But I do believe he's done an ok job, and that a lot of the blame for some players not working out is down to the uncertainty around coaches. There's no way Simon Kjaer is actually as bad as LE made him look.

Castan is as advertised quick of mind and slow of foot. He uses his excellent tactical awareness to overcome his lack of pace. He's tall and strong though and can be an effective partner to a good CD. (I've always felt that CD's are made by the pairing. The most symbiotic relationship on a pitch)

Destro is a fine player and should come good, but again, we paid full price. I also think he is in our colors because of the word and wounded pride of Preziosi, not the skill of Saba.

Roma must get more than they pay for or they will come in 4th or worse every year which basically means goodbye CL and a chance at the Scudetto. Soon Pjanic, Lamela and even Destro and we will begin the cycle again...

I'd be gutted if they're really after Mancini. But he's the perfect fit for Pallotta, or any other idiot who just googles a coach and looks at the managerial honours part of his wiki page to judge his merits. Mancini is surely the antithesis of what Baldini was talking about when he came back to Roma.

As for me being apologetic, DC, I'm doing it more for the sake of clarity with everyone. I don't want to be called out for being something or other when I generally am just curious. And anyway, I know you already think I'm an idiot. And for Prade doing more with less, I think he's just on the same page as Montella. Normally, I'd agree about the pointlessness of such comparisons, but my question was intended more in the sense that Prade would likely have faced a host of difficulties at Roma that he didn't encounter at Fiorentina. Perhaps I should have asked "Do you think that Prade would deal any better with the mad house that is Trigoria and the idiots in charge of the asylum that are Pallotta and his cronies?"

I'm not sure we could expect any better from anyone else in that position. Or, perhaps, much worse. It is what it is.

Well said Collie. Reasonable to think Prade would have brought in Montella and i'd rather have Prade/Montella than Saba and any combination of realistic choice we have at this point.

WIth that said, 2 years ago I wasn't hoping for Prade and 1 years ago I wasn't hoping for Montella so...

At this point I'd take Blanc or Garcia purely just to stop any possibility of Pallotta making the executive decision and hiring Mancini.

Yeh, I'd be surprised if he accepted it too. I think he's more likely to wait around for one of the rich moneybag clubs to offer him a cushy number and a bagful of cash to go on top of his £6m compensation or whatever it was from Citeh. PSG or Monoco or one of them sorts.

Jesus, imagine offering him the job and then he refuses, he wouldn't keep that quiet. How much more embarrassment can this club put itself through.

Which means you had zero experience, and yes, we are talking about Mancini. The same dunderheads, Pallotta included, were excited about Zeman. I do not want Mancini and what Collucci said was correct about Pallotta. The man does not know the game and he probably took to his computer and googled Mancini. I doubt he ever heard of the man before. This is what we have right now and as bad as it's been with LE and Zeman, he needs to let those who know something hire the coach.

Da qualunque punto si voglia vederla, la vicenda che ha coinvolto Milan, Allegri e di riflesso la Roma è di uno squallore esemplare. Ne esce male il Milan ostaggio dei capricci del presidente, della testardaggine del vicepresidente e dello scarso carattere dell’allenatore. Ne emerge malissimo la Roma costretta fuori dalla porta ad attendere decisioni altrui che l’hanno mortificata nei modi e nei tempi. Stiamo parlando di due società che appartengono alla ristretta cerchia delle grandi del nostro campionato ridotte a spartirsi un osso chiamato Allegri. Il tutto al termine di una cena ad Arcore prorogata da giorni e montata da un’aspettativa corrispondente solo alla decadenza dell’avvenimento. La conferma di Allegri non risolverà i dubbi di Berlusconi, non assegnerà a Galliani una vittoria sul nuovo corso societario ormai imminente e guidato dalla figlia del presidente, non darà forza allo stesso allenatore dentro uno spogliatoio conscio della battaglia appena consumata.

E poi c’è la Roma. La società giallorossa dopo aver clamorosamente sbagliato tecnico per due stagioni consecutive ha aspettato che la decisione più importante per cominciare un nuovo corso dipendesse da questo deprimente teatrino. Ma è davvero ridotta così male la Roma? E’ veramente un peccato che un parco giocatori di alto livello venga gestito in questa maniera approssimativa. Lo comprenda la banca che resta la madre putativa, lo capisca la dirigenza assolutamente priva di una guida sicura. Troppi ruoli doppi, scarsa compattezza, incapacità di intervenire sulle questioni importanti, pessima comunicazione: sono questi i mali principali che hanno portato a risultati deludenti e indisciplina fra i giocatori (Osvaldo l’ultimo caso). La Roma è presa da comprensibili ambizioni internazionali legate al ruolo che la storia le assegna, ma si perde nell’incapacità di assecondarle. Non si può inseguire un allenatore come è stato fatto nelle ultime settimane. Occorrerebbe una svolta o un po’ di chiarezza di idee.
