i'm not allegri's biggest defender, but he deserves credit where it's due. i was comparing him to your previous coaches because out of the 3, he'd definitely be the best pick.
and i'd say milan is in the top 5 for best teams in italy [on paper]. and if juve have the best first XI, i'd go far to say that roma has the best squad (first 15-16 players) in the league. you guys have the best prospects in almost every position; marcos, lamela, destro. roma should be doing waaaay better, we all know that. with a good coach, your team should be in the running for the scudetto.
it won't take a genius to lead your team, but it can take some 'dogmatic' idiots to make you finish 6th and 7th. allegri, mazzari and montella will get good results out of this team. and out of those 3, allegri has the most proven credentials. mazzarri is just a bitch all over, and montella hasn't been linked to a return [surprisingly].
Walters done a good job. I also think his system fits our players quite nicely.
He is a whinger though, but that may just mean he'll fit right in. Also, Baldini and Saba are pretty quiet and let the Manager manage. At least in public. Much of Walter's complaining came when DeL was making noise.
and speaking of zeman, i went to visit my grandfather this week (the one who prefers filters in his cigarettes rather than his dialogue), and i felt like i was talking to zdenek zeman. the old man's been in 5 or 6 serious car accidents (all of which were caused by his speeding), and the most recent of which was just 2 years ago. he's been told a zillion times to drive like everyone else, but he doesn't really give a fuck what anyone thinks, even now, well into his 70s. he's the most stubborn man i know. if you're on his good side, though, he'll do everything for you and you'll love him. he even looks a bit like zedonk. i guess i can't really blame totti for having a bromance with zz.
Panic stations, now. CdS saying Roma have agreed a three-year deal with Allegri worth €3m per season, while Mazzarri is off to Inter.
I just can't see it in Allegri. I don't like his style of football and his negative tactics, but even putting that aside for a moment, I just don't think he's the right fit and not the solution to our managerial problems. I can't help but feel this is going to be another disastrous decision from our management.

Reports: Max Allegri Favourite For Roma Job As Walter Mazzarri Heads Towards Inter / Saturday, 18 May 2013 10:40 / Anthony Wright
The subject of who Roma's next coach will be has long been focused on Milan's Massimiliano Allegri and Napoli's Walter Mazzarri, but it now appears that the Rossoneri boss is the favourite to succeed Aurelio Andreazzoli on the Roma bench for next season.
It has long been reported that Mazzarri would be appointed as the next Giallorossi coach, as he is out of contract at Napoli this summer and sporting director Walter Sabatini is impressed with the 51-year-old's resumé. Since joining Napoli in 2009, Mazzarri has led them to 6th, 3rd, 5th and 2nd placed finishes in Serie A and won the Coppa Italia last season.
However Radio Radio reported on Saturday that Mazzarri has instead decided to join Inter on a 3-year contract after Massimo Moratti decided against keeping Andrea Stramaccioni beyond the end of the season. Ilario Di Giovambattista, editorial director of Radio Radio, tweeted that the "three-year contract worth €3.5m" is a "done deal".
"Mazzarri signed yesterday with [director Piero] Ausilio and [sporting director Marco] Branca present. He will have carte blanche. He will take all the staff that worked with him at Napoli to Inter", Di Giovambattista continued, before affirming his belief in his source.
"I am asked if I'm sure on the Mazzarri news. I reply that I trust in what I have been told, and I also have a text from the source which I am keeping. I cannot reveal the source, I will publish the name and the message if it turns out to be unfounded. But I don't believe that will happen. This person is very serious.
"100 false things are written about the transfer market every day. I'm convinced about what I've told you. We'll see what happens - there isn't long to wait".
The news comes two days after Silvio Berlusconi told reporters that "Allegri will go to Roma. The announcement will come after the game against Siena", though the Italian media claimed that Berlusconi was only joking.
It may be that there was truth in Berlusconi's words though, as the Corriere dello Sport reports that Allegri has already met with Sabatini to discuss terms and even transfer targets ahead of next season. According to the newspaper, Allegri is keen to have Davide Astori and Rajda Nainggolan from former club Cagliari at his disposal next season at Roma.
Mazzarri hasn't really had the same issues to overcome that Allegri has at Milan this last season and I think the lessons Allegri should have learned from that should put him in a good position to do well at Roma.
I don't view Allegri as a great coach, or anything resembling one, but he has managed to produce several different effective teams despite not necessarily having the players he wanted or being able to play in the manner he wanted to.
Mazzarri - as far as I can recall - has only ever played one way and both at Napoli and Sampdoria he's had very good support from directors who have given him a squad well suited to playing his 3-5-2.
On the basis I don't think much of Roma's directors or their ability to come up with a coherent plan and buy players suited to that plan, I think Roma need to go for an adaptable coach.
Don't expect to see exciting football from Roma any time soon, though.
I don't get the dismissive attitude toward Mazzarri. Let me say that I have a bias in favor of this guy. First, I have been in the man's company a number of times 20 plus years back when he played for Nola.I have family there, 20 minutes outside of Napoli. Before that, he was in Calabria. He played and later coached Reggina. Just to note, I saw him in Abruzzo when he played for Pescara. Therefore, for what ever it is worth, I have a sentimental weakness for the man. I think he is a fine coach and could do well at Roma.
God knows, I need something to look forward to. I am with Edzo relative to Allegri. I do not like him and I do not want him at Roma. For fucks sake, I would rather have Guido Zappavigna as coach, with his co-conspirator in crime, Mario Corsi (Marione) as his Vice.
I am disgusted right now. I'm a Roma fan and the fact of the matter is that we are perennial losers. 12 years since the last scudetto. Does anybody have a clue as to where we are going under this ownership group.

Balza for Maggio (Different sides but relatively close as players although Maggio seems to be more direct at goal in final third)
Destro and Lamela up top.
I think Pjanic may be gone anyway as someone will be sold this summer.
I have a hard time with Allegri's system working. I don't think Ozvaldo is very creative and Totti's game isn't predicated on movement. Pjanic has no place as a runner and DDR's talents would seem to be rotting on the vine in that system.
Yes Marquihno and Florenzi seem a good fit but you saw how teams adjusted tactically to stop the goals from Nocerino and the other midfield runners.
I just don't see what's special about the guy. Yes he got third, but a distant third to Walter's napoli.
a little more worrying than the usual City and Manchester rumours. marcos, pjanic, lamela, osvaldo, de rossi. i wonder how many of these 20m+ players we'll hold on to this summer.
If any of them are worth 20+ sell em. Except Marcos. He should be worth more but if we can sell him near mid 20's and pick up Ogbonna for 12-15 then do it.
He's an Italian and more likely to stay with us long term.
Everyone else...20 mill plus is a fair price and they are all replaceable. (Not that I suspect you'll get 20+ for any of them save Marcos and perhaps Apple) Fact is you can get top 7 with much cheaper players.
i have no idea what any of them are worth, but people are interested in buying nearly all them for 20m+. if there's one exception its osvaldo. even daniel ross is in the 20s.
i also think selling marcos would be incredibly stupid, even for 25m. if we want to be mr. pragmatic and throw our romantic views out the window then i'll go back to what you were saying a couple of months ago: wait a couple of years and sell him for t. silly price or more. ogbonna should stay far, far away from rome. fred will back me up on this.
lamela and destro aren't irreplaceable but it will be damn hard to convince players of the same caliber to come to Rome without spending much more money. pjanic is the only sale I'd be OK with, because the is 20-25m and I think that's what a good or better replacement would cost us (say, christian...). but since that's not happening, i'd prefer it if all of them stayed.
