Well, is everyone looking forward to the game tonight? Should be interesting. A strange one, no doubt, with nothing to play for, except for little bit of revenge on our side, of course. But that aside, there's really much on offer for us. A good win tonight and we will just hear the usual calls of how it was a United 'B' team, if we lose or draw it will be seen as an embarrassment. Its a real shame that ManUre managed that last-minute winner against Sporting in the last round, as if they had of drawn this game would off meant something as we could of still won the group.

And what sort of team shall Spalletti put out? He must be tempted to rest a lot of players, but at the same time knows the fans want revenge of some kind and that really we must win this game. From the usual sources it seems like our formation will be something like this:

Some are saying Daniele will start, some are saying he will be rested and The Killer Barusso will start. Personally I would like DDR to start and boss the midfield for us. No one was more disappointed with the heavy defeat last season. A fairly strong line-up, all the same. Juan, Panucci and Mancini all rested. Looking forward to the game, even though its a pretty meaningless one. But a 5-0 win would be fecking sweet.

Shieldypoo, I know you'd like some kind of revenge tonight, but that's going to have to wait until later in the competition if we're to get a chance this year. I'm quite pleased the game is almost meaningless because I'd really like to see Spags give as many as possible a rest. I'd like to see Esposito and Cicinho, for sure, but also Barusso and Antunes. Taddei will probably play since he's suspended for the weekend. I don't know where all the injuries are at, but I'd like to see Curci, Cicinho, Ferrari, Antunes, Barusso, Brighi, Esposito, and Vooch leading the line. Not getting too tied up in revenge and taking this game too seriously - that, for me, would be the mark of a big club confident that there will be bigger challenges ahead.

Watching the-football-fountain-of-knowledge Sky Sports News (what a disgraceful channel) and seen 'Sir' tender Alex's press conference from earlier today and he was full of praise for Spalletti. He says we are a much better team then last season, and that usually when an Italian team loses by such a big margin like 7-1 the manager would be fired or under severe pressure, but that was not the case with Spalletti and that demonstrated, Ferguson said, the faith we have in Luciano (he was calling him by his first name) and the ability we know he has. He also said we play some wonderful football and that Luciano is a very skillful and tactical manager. Such nice words from 'Sir' tender Alex. Perhaps they can become friends.

Just read Chris's blog on his preview and he does, as always, make a lot of sense with regard to tonights game. It doesn't mean anything, it is completely insignificant, it is a nothing game, and in a sense we have already lost, but you know what, the more I think about this game and the more I read the previews and such the more I want to see Totti and De Rossi and other senior players play and want to beat these fuckers good. I don't care if it won't mean anything. I don't care if it will be seen as a nothing win over ManUre's 'B' team, I want a big, convincing win.

along with 2 wingers and 2 central mids, a classic 4-4-2.

i guess it wasnt to be...

but spalletti, in all his class and honor, is still very one-dimensional in his tactics. i respect the guy alot, but he needs to be a little more elastic (or less rigid..) in his formations.

Yes, I seen that brace by Muntari, Smiley. That second was savage. He is a player I like alright, but the problem was we, or any other Italian club for that matter, weren't willing to splash out the £12m that Portsmouth paid for him. Besides, we have Barusso, who is in the same mould and a lot younger. Interesting to see how he get on tonight and Carrick and Fletcher.

(AS_ROMA | 12/12/2007) - Momenti di tensione all'Olimpico alla vigilia di Roma-Manchester. Sono stati accoltellati cinque tifosi inglesi e uno italiano, pare in modo lieve, nella zona attorno all'Olimpico. Le forze dell'ordine hanno effettuato alcune cariche di alleggerimento per cercare di disperdere i tifosi romanisti che stavano attendendo a Lungotevere Flaminio e su Ponte Duca d'Aosta gli avversari inglesi. I tifosi del Manchester avrebbero rifiutato le scorte della polizia e si starebbero recando allo stadio per conto proprio. I feriti sono stati trasferiti tre all'ospedale Gemelli, due al Santo Spirito e uno al San Giacomo. Le condizioni vengono definite «non preoccupanti».
Sei sono i tifosi inglesi fermati dalla polizia durante i tafferugli. I tifosi, ora negli uffici della polizia dello stadio Olimpico, avevano tre le mani le cinture dei pantaloni che roteavano nel tentativo di colpire gli avversari della Roma. Le forze dell'ordine hanno disperso un gruppo di circa una cinquantina di inglesi che ha cercato in tutti i modi di arrivare allo scontro con i tifosi romanisti.

Six stabbings in and around the city. Apparantly it was five United supporters and one Romanisti who were stabbed. No of the injuries are thought to be serious. The police carried out some charges to disperse the Roma fans. It also says something about a group of English fans who merged together to clash with groups of Roma fans.
