Stramaccioni confirmed for 2013-14

Inter chief Massimo Moratti has confirmed that he will not be replacing boss Andrea Stramaccioni over the summer.

The tactician’s job was believed to be on the line after a problematic campaign at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

However, speaking outside of his Saras offices on Monday, the oil baron insisted that Stramaccioni would remain on the bench.

“The project will start again with Stramaccioni,” he stated to Sky Sport Italia. “You always ask me whether he’ll stay and I always tell you yes.

“It is not easy to plan for the future if your computer has a virus, when you have had as many players injured as we have, but we are thinking about next season and doing that well.”

Although he backed the Coach, Moratti was reminded when Alberto Zaccheroni and then Roberto Mancini left after also winning his public backing.

“Zaccheroni and Mancini were different situations,” he explained. “Roberto decided to leave and then what happened then happened.

“We needed to look for a new Coach even if Mancini had done really well and we therefore went to Jose Mourinho. But it was Mancini who broke away.”

Inter got back to winning ways with a 1-0 over Parma on Sunday, but technical director Marco Branca was subjected to criticism from the Curva.

“People look for someone to blame and, right now, they are looking at him,” Moratti continued.

“Opinions need to be respected, but sometimes you don’t fully understand the situation from the outside and that’s why certain judgements are made.”

Strama: 'We've lost our captain'

Andrea Stramaccioni has confirmed Javier Zanetti tore his Achilles tendon in a defeat to Palermo. “It’s difficult to comment on a situation like this.”

Inter are already at the centre of an injury crisis and saw Zanetti stretchered off 17 minutes into today’s 1-0 defeat at Palermo.

“I am not a medic, but a lesion to the Achilles tendon does sound serious,” said the Coach.

Initial fears are that Zanetti could be out of action for eight months, which could end his career as he turns 40 in August.

“It’s another heavy blow and one we really could’ve done without, because Zanetti’s value to us is incredible. It’s difficult to comment on a situation like this.

“As for the game, we conceded a goal on our mistake, then gave it everything we had and created the chances to equalise, even if we didn’t have many options in attack.”

At this rate, Inter may well fail to qualify for Europe altogether, as they slipped down to seventh place.

“There are still another four very important games to go, including the head-to-heads with Napoli, Lazio and Udinese. Having lost our captain is a really heavy blow, but even the youngest players put their all into it today.

“So many of them are sacrificing themselves for the team and in the long run you pay a price for that. An error affected the result today, but I saw the right spirit and we must continue like this to the end. We hope to recover a few more players this week, otherwise it’s extremely difficult.

“I do not want to hear any alibis, as these final four games must be played to the death.”

Italy team doctor Enrico Castellacci expects Inter’s Javier Zanetti to be out for at least six months after snapping his Achilles tendon. The Argentine picked up the problem on Sunday, in the loss at Palermo, and Castellacci was asked for his professional opinion on the injury by Radio Sportiva.

“It’s disappointing that such an injury has been sustained by an exemplary athlete,” the Azzurri medic said of the Argentine.

“This is a common and serious injury. A tendon snaps because of degenerative issues, so there was probably something happening already and it broke.

“An operation is the only option now.

“How long will he be out for? When you consider the professionalism and desire of Zanetti then he could perhaps be back within six months, but that is really what we are looking at.

“The fact that he is almost 40-years-old could also be a hindrance, but you have to be optimistic given that we are talking about Javier Zanetti.”
