Oh, and don't get me wrong - the fact that Osvaldo wasn't at the derby beggared belief; I just think others are more culpable for not gently pointing out to him that he was making a big mistake and, more generally, I find it tiresome how some of these attitudes acquire an utterly disproportionate momentum and solidify into exaggerations and cliches. Heaven forbid there might be room for nuance and thought.

While some of it is overblown and mob mentality certainly rules at times I think you're making a saint of a sinner. Go to your job tomorrow and punch a teen and use the excuse that it's just your overzealous need to enlighten students and see what happens.

I'm sure he's hardly the only asshole on the team, perhaps not even the biggest asshole. He's still done little to endear himself to the fans and let's be honest, I doubt he cares whether he makes millions at Roma or somewhere else. So why should we?

He went three months without a goal and in that time had to be reprimanded by Burdisso in training for showing a lack of desire. He went off to london instead of supporting his team. He snatched the ball off of Totti. He's a flat-track bully who rarely scores important goals. He's selfish on and off the pitch and his attitude stinks.

I mentioned the poor reaction he got because I thought it was interesting, especially after the third. I don't like the booing, but I didn't applaud any of his goals. I don't like him and I never will. Everyone's entitled to an opinion, of course. I would say that the majority of them here are negative ones.

Worst of all, he's not even big on twitter. I mean, I saw he only has 50,000 followers. Ronaldo has 17 million. Is he big on Facebook? Please say he's big on Pintrest, at least. We were the first club on Pintrest. There's a reputation to uphold. Not being first on Pintrest should count as gross misconduct.

I'm not proposing to make a saint of him, DCG; nor, though, gio, am I simply disagreeing for the sake of it. I just think the general take on Osvaldo is wrong - that he's a much better player and much less of a bad apple than is generally made out. I think he has character and so puts his head above the parapet at times and so takes more shots than he deserves; the badness of his character has been massively over-stated - you could see this coming in the reporting whenever he made a mistake or picked up a card from pretty early on: there is a cliche which the journos have arrived at and to which they return instead of doing some proper, independent thinking.

I did also read that he had cleared the trip with the club beforehand - in a piece on forzaroma, I think. Which doesn't mean it's true, of course, though I'd be surprised if it isn't.

There is a groundswell of opinion against Osvaldo; I'm just recording that I don't share it. As I've said before, I'm pretty sure he's got a very good career ahead of him, whether in giallorosso or not and selling him would weaken rather than strengthen the club.

There is some truth in saying that a lot of the issues with Osvaldo have been overblown by the media, and more so the fans, but what it comes down is discipline. Discipline, rules and procedure. A club needs discipline and rules for the players to follow and when those procedures aren't in place, shit happens. There are loads of incidents with Osvaldo (when making my post about his misdemeanours yesterday i forgot about when he took the peno off Totti, and when Burdisso had harsh words with him training), yet he seems to get away with a lot of shit, and even if there is talk of Sabatini and Baldini being sick of him and looking to offload him in the summer, it shouldn't be happening in the first place.

There is a serious lack of professionalism in this club, and it stems right down from our leadership right to the antics on the football pitch, and its about time it was sorted once and for all. We've called for a stronger manager in the dressing room, someone who will call the players out and punish (drop/fine/slap, whatever) them when they do something wrong, but it is more than that. We want to be run like a modern professional club, then fucking do it. Cut out all the bullshit, and if a player does anything wrong (slaps a teammate; is away from the club without permission; violent conduct; peno hogging; misses training), then the correct procedure should be followed and he should be fined and/or dropped as appropriate.

And I'm not just talking about Osvaldo here. Even young Marquinhos gave an unauthorised interview the other day in which he talked up a move to Barcelona. I'm not sure what the appropriate punishment should be, and I know he is only a kid, but I have my doubts if it was properly handled. There have been issues this season with Marquinho, Pjanic, Stek, Burdisso (regardless of the manager – who the manager is not the issue here, there is a bigger picture) amongst others. And even Totti himself is no stranger to indiscipline as we all know too well.

It all plays a part. It all plays into the mentality of the team. If they think they can get away with shit and be lazy, then we get the type of performance we seen went they strolled out onto the pitch at home to Pescara. Unprofessional. We need to get our heads out of arses. Discipline, rules and procedure.

OSVALDO 9 Segna tre gol e colpisce un palo, prestazione chic che merita un voto altissimo. Per quanto riguarda i suoi atteggiamenti polemici, e quasi di sfida con la Sud, il discorso deve passare alla dirigenza. Di certo, prima di cedere un attaccante che finora ha segnato 16 gol (15 in campionato) a Trigoria ci devono pensare molto bene.

OSVALDO 7,5: Non basta la sua prima tripletta in giallorosso e il primo gol in casa del 2013 per placare i fischi dei tifosi. Avvio soft, poi il gol e l’esultanza polemica che lo risveglia da una primavera amara. Al 25’ fa tramare il palo alla destra di Pegolo, poi bissa su assist di Florenzi e completa il tris da pochi passi guardandola Sud con atteggiamento di sfida. Una bella dimostrazione di forza in vista dell’estate e del calciomercato, ma il caratteraccio non cambia.

I hope he can prove this wrong. And I hope he can silence the cynic in me that's certain he's only trying hard now to put himself in the shop window for the summer.

For the record, I don't want any player to fail at Roma. Or anywhere else, really.

So, according to Sky Sports...Mazzarri will coach Roma next season.

Although he would be an upgrade over the last 2, it's disheartening because of his view on youth development. How a coach like Crybaby Mazzarri would fit in with a club with such a high standard with regards to the youth sector, I'm not sure.
