Question: What do you guys think about Dodo, our leftback/leftwing? Why do you think he's not playing all that much if IMO, he's shown enough quality in the few minutes he's played to merit more playing time especially since Balzaretti seems to be disapointing (side note: I don't think Balza's been as bad as journalists have been saying but still not as good to merit that much playing time over Dodo). Can Dodo play leftback or is he really a winger? Is the injury he sustained impacting his career. I read someplace that he really needs another surgery.

Angelo Cristofoletti, agente Fifa, è intervenuto per parlare della Roma:Palermo-Roma è sicuramente la partita di Balzaretti. Un giocatore che però a Roma non sta facendo bene…“Io credo che Balzaretti sia un giocatore estremamente forte e molto esperto, però forse sta pagando le fatiche dell’Europeo e un’età non più giovanissima” ha detto a ilsussidiario.net

La fascia sinistra della Roma però non è blindata visto che dietro a Balzaretti c’è Dodò, non crede?
“Per me l’acquisto di Dodò è simile a quello fatto per José Angel: mi sembrano due acquisti strani, per ora non azzeccati. Non lo dico io ma il campo. A questo punto sarebbe meglio tenere Crescenzi che può giocare su entrambe le fasce, senza lasciarlo in giro in prestito. Il vivaio della Roma non deve invidiare niente a nessuno, neanche al Barcellona”.

Il sogno Jovetic rischia di rimanere tale?
“Costa tantissimo, io piuttosto mi chiederei se serva effettivamente alla Roma. Non so quanto possa servire, tenendo presente che c’è un certo Lamela che tra due anni sarà più forte del montenegrino”.

Chi dovrebbe acquistare la Roma al posto di Osvaldo?
“Io non sono così sicuro che Osvaldo venga ceduto dalla Roma. Dovesse arrivare un altro allenatore non credo si priverebbe così facilmente di un giocatore importante come Osvaldo ed è difficile poi trovare un sostituto all’altezza arrivabile sul mercato”, ha affermato in un’intervista rilasciata a ilsussidiario.net.

A proposito di allenatore: confermerebbe Andreazzoli?
“No, ma non per il suo valore, che si sta rivelando positivo, più per il fatto che la Roma vive in transizione, cioè adesso deve farci capire di voler aprire un progetto importante, Per questo serve un allenatore di grande valore, come Carlo Ancelotti”.

I suspect Destro might do well in front of Totti and Lamela if Andreazzoli keeps going with the 3-4-2-1. I tend to agree with the comments on Osvaldo (as on Crescenzi) above too; he clearly has Totti's respect, which is surely no small thing. I think he cops a lot of pretty unfair stick and has a pretty good career ahead of him, whether in Rome or elsewhere.

Dodo hasn't been playing much because, as a defender, it seems that he can't, you know, defend. Its as if he aspired to be Roberto Carlos and watched and learned all those lung busting runs forward without practising any defending. He's been caught out of position very badly on several occasions. He's also been unlucky with injuries too; certainly coming to the club with a dodgy ginocchio didn't help, but also since then he's had a few setbacks which hasn't made it easier. We did pick him up free so I'd give him plenty of time, and he probably could do with a loan spell do get some proper playing time.

In my 4-2-3-1 lineup, I forgot to mention Bradley as a centre-mid backup, ahead of Viviani with Viviani either a 3rd backup choice or loaned out again (unless Taxi is not signed).
Also, Bertolacci could be alternating at treq if we don't resign Perrotta.

28 March, 1993. Francesco Totti comes on as a substitute for Ruggerio Rizzitelli against Brescia to make his Roma debut - now, 20 years on, he has become the icon of Roma and Rome. In Zdenek Zeman's words, "Totti is the dream of every child that has become reality. He's the fan that became a champion, the champion that became an icon and the icon that became a legend. Totti is football".

Even this season, Totti has continued to break records and now stands at number 2 in Serie A's all time top scoring charts on 226 goals. Ahead of him, on 274, is Silvio Piola, and one of the captain's aims before he retires is to overhaul the Pro Vercelli legend from top spot. But despite this, he has never forgotten the team, and always stresses that his priority is to get Roma back into European football again.

Have these last 20 years gone by quickly?
They have flown by, because I've done everything with passion. The Saturday [before the Brescia game, when he played the first half for the Primavera team against Ascoli and scored twice] went as it did and I didn't think that I'd play on Sunday. It's true that when [coach Vujadin] Boskov turned around to call on me, I thought he was talking to [Roberto] Muzzi. It was him who said to me, "he wants you".

If you had always played as a centre forward, how many goals would you have scored?
At least 300, I would have already passed Piola. Now I only hope that I don't have physical problems and that I can continue in this way, without thinking that my contract expires in a year.

You want to play until you're 40. We presume the renewal would be a formality...
I hope so, next week president [James] Pallotta will arrive in Rome and we'll talk about it directly. Anyway, it makes me happy that the club are showing confidence in me.

No one, because the numbers speak for themselves.

Which player has ever made you think, 'I'll never be able to do what he does'? And who are the strongest players that you have had as opponents and as team-mates?
In the first case, only one - [Lionel] Messi. I'd say the best opponent is Ronaldo. As team-mates, I'd choose [Gabriel] Batistuta and, for understanding on the pitch, [Antonio] Cassano.

Gigi Buffon chose Antonio Conte as the best coach he has ever had, who would you choose?
[Marcello] Lippi. No one else matches the charisma that he transmits. But [Fabio] Capello was also a great, as was [Luciano] Spalletti. It's a shame that he still tells me that it was me who sent him away from Rome, as it was he who wanted Zenit...

Which coach would you like to work with?
[Jose] Mourinho.

At Trigoria, coaches of all kinds have been raised up - we're thinking about Vincenzo Montella and Andrea Stramaccioni. Would you like to have them back here, maybe when you're a Giallorossi director?
Maybe I'm still in time to have them as a player. In football, everything is possible. I had an excellent relationship with them. I see Vincenzo a lot because our wives our friends.

Aurelio Andreazzoli is doing well though - is the objective of the Champions League possible?
It doesn't depend on us. We'll try, but we must be realistic - the goal is the Europa League. A team like Roma cannot be far away from the Europa League. But things are going well with Andreazzoli. He knows Trigoria from A to Z. And if victory after victory is arriving, he's right on all fronts. Next year though, we must fight for the top two or three places.

Some of your team-mates welcomed the departure of Zeman like a liberation, could it be that he wasn't able to make himself understood?
Everyone has their pros and cons, and at the end when things aren't happening it's the coach who pays. But if every one of us had given 100%, things would have gone differently.

It would have also gone differently for you too in 1997 if you had been sold to Sampdoria, as Carlos Bianchi wanted.
Yes, he didn't support the Romans - in training matches he made the teams 'Romans' versus 'non-Romans'. By going to Genova, I wouldn't have come back and I'd still be a long way away now. Years later, before by penultimate renewal, I was thinking about joining Real Madrid. Then the contract that Sensi offered me and questions about my private life convinced me to stay here. And I've never regretted it.

When did you deserve the Balon d'Or?
In 2000 - if we had won the European Championships I would have had to be given it, additionally because we had started the fantastic scudetto season.

Do you still think that you didn't start the semi final against Holland because of pressure from some sponsors?
That's what everyone says. Up until that moment I'd had a great European Championships and scored important goals. There was no reason to leave me out.

Giancarlo Abete has named his ideal Italy team from under his leadership. Tell us if he's left out some untouchables: Buffon, Bergomi, Scirea, Cannavaro, Maldini, Conti, Pirlo, Tardelli, Totti, Rossi, The Waterboy.
I'm there and I like it like that. We'd have won two World Cups with that team.

Before you stop, would you prefer to win another scudetto or another World Cup?
Both, no? I'd say the scudetto, then I'd have a month before the World Cup and I would think about that then.

Jokes aside, are your doubts [about Italy] linked to how your body will respond, how you will be welcomed back into the group, or, if things go badly, that you will be made a scapegoat?
The final one. I know that a World Cup is the best, especially in Brazil where football is everything. But if things were to go badly, people would know who to blame. They would say, "They brought an old guy who has ruined the group". I'd like to hear all these people who have jumped on the bandwagon when I make a mistake in some games next year - they will start to say "enough, he can't carry on any more". Now they're all talking bravely.

How will Italy do at the World Cup without you?
How they did at the European Championships. Indeed, I hope that they win. With me, on the other hand, they would lose... It's a question mark. But the team is good and [Cesare] Prandelli is excellent, he puts them out well on the pitch.

Is Mario Balotelli already a phenomenon?
Let's say he can become a phenomenon, but it depends on the head he has, on his behaviour. What you do off the pitch transmits itself onto the pitch.

And yet certain parts of the media compare Mario to when you were younger.
Of course, they told me that I was Roman, compulsive, that I didn't want to train, but he looks for it. I didn't, I've always been a quiet type.

Staying on the theme of youngsters, is it true that you had prepared a celebration for your first goal in September 1994 and then you forgot it?
It's true, I think it was a sort of wrestling gesture.

In 2001 you won the scudetto, did you imagine that 12 years later it would be the only one until now?
No, we had a great team, a fine group and a top coach. We could have won at least two or three. We resembled the Inter team that won four in a row. We threw a couple away, but I think that Calciopoli also took its toll.

In terms of results, did you expect more from the American Roma? Maybe having a distant president is a problem.
I don't think so. If the results haven't come, it's not the club's fault but the players'. They have built an excellent team.

What did you think about the story of the sheikh?
That sortof thing can only happen at Roma... But it shows that everyone would like to get their hands on such an important club.

Did you expect to see Daniele De Rossi criticised so much by the fans?
Yes, because it's also happened to me. Roman fans demand more compared to others. I hope he stays, but anything can happen in football.

Excluding Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, which player would you like at Roma?
Xavi.

Who will win the Champions League?
Barcelona.

The derby is coming - which Laziale have you suffered the most from and who you most enjoyed beating?
[Alessandro] Nesta, because he was very strong and a friend. But talking in sporting terms, all Laziali are unpleasant to me.

I have to ask you for a prediction.
We Romans live differently, we feel this more than other derbies. This is why it's inconceivable to transfer players, even foreign ones, from one team to another. But I cannot make a prediction. It's not like it used to be, unfortunately, because as soon as I talk about the other team they take it as though it was anyone. Maybe someone doesn't understand the jokes.

Are the influential Roman radio stations also a problem?
I used to enjoy listening to them, but now I've stopped. Everyone says what they want, and often say things that are not true. People listen to it but you move on from it.

Turning the page, was the emotion of your first goal in Serie A or your first kiss stronger?
You're young for your first kiss. You give them because you see others kissing, it's not giving passion or love. But I've always scored goals, I prefer goals. And I was 12, no, 10 years old for my kiss - at that age I didn't understand anything.

So who is right, Prandelli who says that the time is right for gay players to come out or Antonio Di Natale, for instance, who says it isn't?
Look, I have never known gay players, but I don't think that either football or Italy in general is ready. It's sad, but that's the way it is.

We'll leave you on a thought about your children. Would you be happy if Chanel married a footballer?
Why not? The important thing is that no one lacks respect.

Cristian meanwhile plays football. Is it possible to think about a dynasty in the style of Mazzola or Maldini?
If he shows himself to be good I'll be happy, but I hope not. To have the surname Totti will be an obsession. I hope he becomes a tennis player, so when I stop playing I will use the time to be his manager...

Palermo's goals looked pretty bad from a defensive viewpoint, and I'm still not sure about this formation which AA plays and if three at the back is the way to go.
