Winning is not all that matters to me, not at all. This is sport, which by its very nature is to be competitive, but winning at all costs is not something which I go for. It may sound corny but its about the jersey and what it represents, the history, the culture, the players and fans, all that is Roma, and it always will be. Not how many trophies we win.
A lot of what you say is true, Fedayn. Football is a global business and all things change and grow whether we want them to or not, but like Colly says, there are certain means and ways to go about it. Our new management is very much going down the route of turning Roma "into a global brand" and making us "the best club in the world" by selling and associating the club with anyone and everyone who'll have us and then whoring the hell out of it by any and all means necessary. Fine, the club is going down this path under this management and things have to be developed, but there are better ways to go about it.
Hire me as player manager, then I'd play me at centre-back, murder Osvaldo and sign Robbie Keane on loan to replace him, and fill the rest with Romans (Totti, DDR, Florenzi etc.). Simple.
( / March 14, 2013) - Further to the press release published on February 24, 2013 by AS Roma SPV LLC, as majority shareholder of NEEP Roma Holding S.p.A., with reference to the preliminary agreement signed with Sheik Adnan Adel Aref al Qaddumi al Shtewi (the “Prospective Partner”) for his involvement, direct or indirect, with the equity group which owns the controlling stake of NEEP Roma Holding SpA, and the deadline of March 14, 2013 for the Prospective Partner to fund the full purchase price of his investment, AS Roma SPV LLC – also after consultation with Consob - informs that the Prospective Partner has not consummated the investment, there is no agreement in place to extend the deadline for closing the transaction and the preliminary agreement with the Prospective Partner should be considered terminated.
Roma End Negotiations With Sheikh Al Qaddumi / 14 Mar 2013 Anthony Wright
Roma have ended negotiations with potential investor Sheikh Adnan Araf al Qaddumi al Shtewi, the club announced on Thursday evening. The Giallorossi's original statement that stated they were in talks with al Qaddumi about a potential investment also stated that the negotiations were subject to certain conditions set to an undisclosed time frame.
Part of the time frame was later revealed to be that Thursday 14 March would be the deadline for the Jordanian sheikh to prove his financial backing to the tune of €50m, but this never materialised and Roma have now announced that the deal is off.
"Further to the press release of 24 February 2013 by AS Roma SPV LLC, as the majority shareholder of NEEP Roma Holding SpA, with reference to the preliminary agreement signed with sheikh Adan Araf al Qaddumi al Shtewi (the 'Potential Partner') for his direct or indirect involvement in the shareholder group that holds the controlling stake in NEEP Roma Holding SpA, and [with reference to] the deadline of 14 March 2013 for the Potential Partner to finance the full purchase price of his investment, AS Roma SPV LLC - after consulting with Consob - states that the Potential Partner has not completed his investment, there is no agreement in place to extend the deadline of the transaction and the preliminary agreement with the Potential Partner can be considered terminated", the statement read.
"Although it is a shame that this operation was not completed, this will not have an affect on the health of the team. As always, the club and the management are 100% committed to reinforcing Roma in order to build a great team for our fans and the people of Rome. We will continue to work closely with Unicredit to meet the needs of the club. We are eager to move our initiatives to improve the team's brand forwards, such as with the construction of a world class stadium in Rome and the new partnership with Nike".
There had previously been doubts about al Qaddumi's financial backing and his credentials, particularly as little was known about his background despite links with Italy. Parts of the media had written negatively about the sheikh's potential investment, causing al Qaddumi to make several statements reaffirming his desire to become part of Roma's management team.
However, the club themselves made it clear from the outset that, while they are ready to listen to offers of extra investment that could help the globalisation of the Roma brand, al Qaddumi's bid would be closely scrutinised according to their timetable and the sheikh failed to meet their requirements.

Apparently we've reached an "agreement in principal" with Allegri for next season, while Milan want Montella. The world is upside down.
Haha. That's hilarious, Gio. Last night I made a quip about there being two divine representatives in rome called francesco now. Turns out one of my friends is rather more religious that I'd thought. And clearly not a romanista.
Antonio Carlos Zago, you won a Scudettto with Roma in 2001 and on Sunday evening, before Roma v Parma at the Stadio Olimpico, you’ll be honored as one of the greats from the Giallorossi’s history. Are you excited? "Yes, very much so. This jersey has always meant so much to me. I believe I honored it every time I put it on. It’s no accident that the best moments of my career came at Roma."
You arrived in Trigoria in January 1998. From there you registered 4 and a half seasons as a starter, winning one Scudetto. "A Scudetto won here is worth 10 won at AC Milan or Juventus. It was an honor to be part of such a strong squad. We deserved that title, and we dominated the season from start to finish."
Do you remember that 17 June? Roma v Parma, for the last match of the season? "A bit of the right kind of tension had built up in that week before the Parma match, since we hadn’t managed a win at Napoli, which would have allowed us to celebrate the title 7 days earlier. But it was even better that way, celebrating in front of our own fans."
Your relationship with the fans? "It was always great, perhaps because they could tell how much the team meant to me. The fans in the Curva Sud can really charge you up. They’re the greatest and most passionate in Italy. I’d compare them to the fans of Corinthians and Flamengo in Brazil."
Regarding Corinthians, can you give your thoughts on the three Brazilians that arrived from there this season: Castan, Dodô and Marquinhos? "Castan is an experienced and physically strong defender, a bit like I was. I’ve known Marquinhos since he was 14 years old and I was the sporting director at Corinthians. You could tell then just how good he was, and in my opinion he could become one of the best central defenders in the world. He and Castan could become the new Aldair and Zago. Not to mention Dodô, who still hasn’t had a chance to shine yet, but he’ll be an important player. And I wouldn’t leave out the other two Brazilians either, Taddei and Marquinho. They’re two players you can always count on."
Going back to your era with the club, what about the differences between Zeman and Capello, the two coaches you had at Roma as a player? "Tactically speaking, Zeman is still one of the best in the world. Capello, however, was like a drill sergeant. He knew everything about everyone. I learned a lot from both of them, and I’m learning just as much from Andreazzoli. I’m getting a lot out of this experience as a coaching assistant in Trigoria, and I’d like to become a head coach in a few years."
What to you make of this squad of players? "There are so many excellent youngsters. Roma can rest assured of their future."
