Seriously, of course I don't want the days of Rosella back, but more and more I hate the direction the current ownership is taking. I will always support and love Roma, I suppose, but its the sport which I feel a growing disconnect from. Especially when, for me, I compare it to my other main sport, GAA, which is totally amateur. I have always disliked the idea of foreign ownership and the globalisation of football and clubs like Chelsea, Man Utd, City, PSG etc, but when it comes down to it, we're one of them now. People will say it will make us a more successful c̶l̶u̶b̶ brand, and in many ways it will, but I hate it.

Fucking Nike jerseys, Pininterest, mystery sheiks, dodgy marketing suits, empty promises, twitter, Mickey fucking Mouse, globalfuckingbrand me arse, c'è solo la Roma.

Someone in the PR department at Roma needs to slap some people and realize that the fans don't care wether it's a global brand or not. Yet it seems to be all they care about at this time or at least that's the message being sent out.

Well, the club were skeptical of him as he appeared to be the biggest chancer since Berlusconi, and it seemed like he wasnt really a proper sheik and just a pretend one who's being living in Italy for 20+ years, and so they gave him a deadline of March 14 – today – to deposit the €50m. Since then he got a bit scorpy with the negative coverage he'd been getting in the media and there was all sorts of fuss made about it, but supposedly he should present his offer to the club before midnight tonight.

Also, he seemed to genuinely like Roma and care about the results on the pitch so they were afraid he wasn't going to mesh well with the new corporate culture.

How many of us live in the city, let alone are Italian? Here we are bitching about someone not of the blood owning the club. These moves are sickening but this is a new age. Things change. We all sound like a bunch of old white people complaining about integration. When it comes down to it: are you a fan of Roma? IF you are, do you want to win? Winning is all that matters. Roma are trying to create a brand much like Juventus, United, City, Chelsea etc. These aforementioned clubs are among the most popular, and most importantly, SUCCESSFUL in the world. Maybe it's because I'm an American, but the last time I checked, there are no true Romans here. We're all mutts. I'm Italian, I have family ties to the club. I've never been to Rome, let alone Italy, and the love I have for this club (outside of the Oakland A's) is unmatched by any other. I want what's best for the club and what's best is winning. I don't want to sit mid-table the rest of my life. I want to win. I want to be a force in Europe. I want to win trophies.

Call it what you will but a sponsorship on a shirt doesn't say anything about the players, supporters or passion of a club. It points to 5-10 front office crooks, nothing else. Ownership will never define a club.

The world changes. People change. Customs change. Morals change. Public perception changes. Football is not immune to this. Shit, sport in general is not immune to this. The creation and maintenance of a "brand" is the new way of sports. You see it all over the world, not just Calcio. From American football teams sporting sponsorships on their practice jerseys to teams connecting through social media; it's a new world we're living in. We either embrace it now, or just turn into a curmudgeon.

I'd agree with that. I don't agree with the mean in which Roma are conducting themselves but the ultimate goal is something we want . Now, whether they choose the Juventus route, that's to be seen. If I had my way, this would play out like one of my FIFA or Football Manager saves. Roman players only and if I bend on that, Italians only. I'm sure that's what we all really want but it's not realistic.

A global brand is not to be feared. The means to achieve that are a slippery slope.
