Stek's sending off's were all soft albeit clumsy but soft nonetheless. Using a keeper in Zeman's system as a sweeper is even more suicidal than what he was doing.

A sweeper keeper is one who's good with his feet and ambulatory. Better for teams who play high lines like Barca under Pep, Zeman and AVB. They are able to get off their line and clear the ball when it's sent over the top.

It's why Pep preferred Valdes and AVB bought Lloris and why Steck was such a failure under LE getting sent off like he was Rino Gattuso.

I understand what a sweeping role is with regards to keeping. My point is, it's asinine to implement a keeper with that role in a Zeman scheme.

Well Zeman disagrees with you. I'm not sure he's a great coach anymore, but i'm quite sure he's an expert on his own tactics.

He's on record as stating much of what i said above. Fact is distribution and being quick off his line to cover balls over the top is/was vital to his scheme.

Secondo il Corriere dello Sport in edicola oggi il capitano della Roma è il più grande giocatore italiano del Dopoguerra. Nell’articolo a firma di Luigi Ferraiolo viene messo davanti a tanti campioni come Riva, Rivera, Baggio ecc. Segnare 225 gol in serie A è indubbiamente un’impresa, ma nel caso di Francesco Totti non è tutto. Anzi rivela la parte meno intigrante di un campione, che da vent’anni rappresenta il prototipo di un calcio moderno, universale.In queste inevitabili celebrazioni si fa passare Totti per uno dei più famosi bomber che abbiamo avuto: Totti è molto di più, probabilmente è il più grande calciatore italiano del dopoguerra. Ha segnato più di tutti, dopo Piola, ma non è stato mai un attaccante puro, è la versione più completa e moderna del “numero dieci”. Ha timbrato 225 gol, ma molti di più ne ha fatti segnare ai compagni, nella Roma e in Nazionale. La sua grandezza , la sua unicità, è proprio in questo.

E’ un paradosso celebrarlo come bomber, Totti il meglio di sé lo ha dato negli anni giovanili, quando ha illuminato le sue squadre, giocando da trequartista. Disegnando geometrie fulminanti e precise, inventando assist con facilità irrisoria, mandando in gol anche muli e ciuchi. Quello è stato il Totti universale, il grande, grandissimo numero dieci. Il trequartista più geniale e completo che si sia mai visto. Poi è arrivato Spalletti e gli ha cambiato un po’ la vita, ma pur giocando da centravanti, Totti non ha mai fatto la prima punta. Ha creato assist e spazi per gli inserimenti di Perrotta o degli altri centrocampisti, ha tirato fuori dall’area i suoi ruvidi marcatori. E naturalmente, ha continuato a segnare.

Why the fucking exclamation point? Am I supposed to be excited about a businessman going to a meeting? Has Roma really just become an elaborate version of fantasy football for really rich stock brokers? It'd make sense in that sense, because sooner or later they'd be bored by all the annoying footbally stuff and the dodgy decision making and they'd lust after some good, old-fashioned financial news and honest-to-goodness board meetings. I can see them rubbing their filthy fucking hands together at the prospect, the perverts.

The Soccerex event is, to quote its website:

"Europe’s leading football business event, conference and exhibition, will return to Manchester for its fourth year on 10-11 April 2013. The event provides unprecedented business opportunities for Europe’s football industry elite for two days of debate, networking and socialising."

Or to be more succinct, everything that's wrong with the modern game.

Twitter as a news feed? Furry muff. I'm not sure one should get too high and mighty if others see its use in other terms, though. And I'm not sure one should expect the club to be like the BBC in very many ways.

Maro, there's nothing high about it. Others are free to use it as they wish. But to my mind, the manner in whic you rightly imply it's most regularly used is little different to this humble forum.

As for my BBC comparison, it was merely to illustrate that of the opinion that an outlet should stick to its generally accepted primary raison d'être. Roma is a football club, and as a fan I'd rather of I didn't have to read nonsense about a marketing junket. Maybe that's just me.
