I know Baldini said he may not just be a temporary solution, but I take that as just one of those things someone in his position kinda has to say, just something to encourage him and show confidence. I don't think someone who more or less came from obscurity – at least in terms of being a manager of a high-profile club – could really be considered for the job.

Well, no, technically, Montella was head manager of the Roma under-15's for a few years, while AA has never been a manager, to my knowledge, which is kind of the point. His job, his expertise, at least is seems to me, is that of a trainer or tactician.

Aurelio Andreazzoli

Aurelio Andreazzoli, sino a oggi assistente tecnico, sarà il nuovo allenatore dell’As Roma. Nato a Massa Carrara il 5 novembre 1953, lavora nello staff giallorosso sin dai tempi dall’arrivo di Luciano Spalletti sulla panchina della Roma. Con l’allenatore toscano Andreazzoli ha vissuto anche l’esperienza in Friuli con l‘Udinese. Il suo ruolo al fianco del tecnico di Certaldo era quello di tattico: ovvero il suo compito consisteva, tra le altre cose, nello studiare le caratteristiche tecnico-tattiche delle squadre avversarie.

Nel febbraio del 2011 viene richiamato nel suo precedente ruolo di collaboratore tecnico in occasione dell’avvicendamento tra Claudio Ranieri e Vincenzo Montella sulla panchina giallorossa. Continuerà a ricoprire il ruolo di collaboratore tecnico anche sotto la guida di Luis Enrique prima e di Zdeněk Zeman poi.

Prima di intraprendere la carriera da assistente tecnico, Andreazzoli aveva già sperimentato quella da allenatore: nel 1987 ha infatti allenato i dilettanti dell’Ortonovo, per poi passare al Pietrasanta e al Castelnuovo Garfagnana, in Eccellenza. In seguito si è occupato a più riprese delle giovanili della Fiorentina e ha allenato in Serie C1 la Massese, in C2 il Tempio e nel Campionato Nazionale Dilettanti l’Aglianese. Nel 2001-2002 è subentrato alla sesta giornata a Lamberto Magrini sulla panchina del Grosseto, in Serie D, venendo sostituito da Claudio Solimina prima della fine del torneo. Nel gennaio 2003 ha sostituito invece a Dino Pagliari sulla panchina dell’Alessandria, in C2, venendo esonerato dopo un mese di lavoro e rimpiazzato da Carlo Soldo.

So he has managed in lower leagues – sorry realise that. Curious that it was quite a long time ago and since then he has been sticking with coaching never got back into management. I wonder was he ever offered a management role in recent years, even back down in the lower leagues, or was he content as a coach and assistant to the various managers he's worked under? I'm not saying he doesn't deserve his chance now, just that he took an usual route to reach this stage.

Any thoughts on the stories of Arab investment? I'm not sure if its true at this stage but certainly there's a lot going on about it, although who it is exactly is still unclear. Personally I'm against foreign investment in clubs in situations like this, as I've made clear in the past, and this seems like bad news to me, although still early days.

For better or worse, Zeman is gone. Let's not speak ill of the dead. As for Andreazzoli, give him till May and see how he looks. Experience can be used to excuse a lot of things, after all. Like Mancini, who has won four Coppa Italia titles, three Serie A, a Premiershit and an FA Cup. And yet who is still, I think we can agree, a pretty poxy manager. Sven-Goran Eriksson has shit loads of experience too. As does Harry Redknapp. I want my manager to have ideas, and then if possible, some positive experience. I wouldn't discount Andreazzoli purely on the fact that he hasn't made a career out of shuffling from club to club.

As for options, it looks like Ancelotti is off to Real, so that's him out of the picture.

Money aside, could the fact that Russia's league will finish at around the same time as Italy's for the first time this year possibly make a move for Spalletti a little easier? In the past, leaving Zenit in the summer — mid season for them — would have made it difficult.

The club has a legal obligation to the stock-market to make such statements, threadmund. Wasn't the Roma you fell in love with based around players like Emerson, Samuel, Batistuta, Cassano, and the extravagances of Sensi? Is it that the game has really changed or that you have?

We don't want to admit it but if Roma toiled in Serie C for 10 years our interest would wane. We are all are just cheering for laundry after all.
