Word. Three good posts in a row: +1; +1; +1. Zeman has to get some credit - the spirit in the team was pretty impressive. He seems to have brought the lads together in their mutual dislike of him and delight that he's gone. Oh, and who'dathunk De Rossi and Pjanic could play alongside each other in a midfield 2?

I didn't think that the formation was particularly effective. DDR and PJanic got better as the game went on but at times they seemed to function as one player. Fine when you have to players who's skills are limited and complimentary (Pirlo and Gattuso) but less so when you have someone of DDRs ilk who's strength is his lack of weakness.

Without the ball the formation was effective in so much as Juve insisted on going route 1. DDR was a monster in the early second half breaking up or slowing down breaks. Towards the end they started using width to great avail and we gave up far too many dead balls/corners. We were lucky to not go down on that excellent Pirlo FK.

This game was excellent to watch and win. But not 6 days ago we laid an egg without Zeman at the helm.

That said, the players worked their tails off and it was good to see us win the old fashion way...by earning it.

I don't desperately like the formation either - I'd play 4-2-3-1, with Florenzi in front of Pjanic and DDR and two true fullbacks. The very simple point, as I see it, is that DDR and Pjanic complement each other beautifully and are both, in their own ways, naturals in that position at the bottom of the midfield, and that having players in there who hold their position gives a defensive shape to the team. Pjanic's technical quality helps DDR out when we have the ball under pressure; DDR's defensive strengths helps Pjanic out, though defensively I would say Pjanic is better than Pizza, simply because he's a bit quicker. One of the effects (almost principles) of Zeman's football seemed to be the emptying out of the middle of the pitch (as not only the fullbacks went forward, but the mezz'ale, too, and forward in wide positions). That seems to me to go against one of the basic tactical principles of the game - and the results suggested that the principles were vindicated rather than over-turned.

A good win last night. I watched it in a jammed cafe bar last night in Firenze, and I'd no idea of the starting line up or formation, so I wasn't really sure what was goin on for a while. Both Toro and Piris on the pitch confused me. I didn't think we were particularly effective, I wasn't really sure about the way we were set up, and I didn't think it was a very exciting game, but it's always good to beat Juve and beating them with a hard fought performance and that glorious rocket from Totti makes it great indeed.

Pjanic affida al suo profilo Facebook il messaggio ai tifosi della Roma. Quella contro la Juve non è stata una partita qualsiasi, sia per il risultato che per la posizione che Mire ha tenuto in campo. Andreazzoli l’ha schierato da regista accanto a De Rossi, il ruolo che Pjanic occupa anche nella nazionale bosniaca e che sente più suo. A molti è sembrato di rivedere la coppia De Rossi-Pizarro, senso tattico più regia, che aveva fatto la fortuna della Roma di Spalletti. E in questa posizione non si «pesta i piedi» con Totti, come aveva detto Zeman. A Bergamo, con De Rossi e Totti squalificati, Mire cambierà di nuovo posizione? Difficile. Più semplice vedere Bradley accanto a lui e Florenzi con Lamela dietro a Osvaldo.

«Non mi pento di niente». Quel che è fatto è fatto: Zdenek Zeman torna in punta di piedi a parlare della sua infelice esperienza alla Roma, un’avventura terminata anzitempo per mancanza di risultati. Come riporta l’edizione odierna del «Corriere dello Sport», il boemo è stato premiato con la Panchina d’Argento per quanto fatto lo scorso anno a Pescara, un’occasione ottima per ripercorrere velocemente i pochi mesi da allenatore nella Capitale.

«Mi dispiace per come è andata, per non essere riuscito a mettere in pratica quello che avevo in testa ed a tirare fuori le potenzialità della squadra ma non mi pento di niente. Volevo fortemente la Roma e per questo sono tornato.»
Il premio è la celebrazione del lavoro fatto a Pescara – «grazie alla società per avermi messo nelle condizioni di fare bene ed ai ragazzi» – ma per il futuro è ancora presto: «Mi fa piacere che ci sia ancora tanta gente che ha creduto e crede in me. Ricominciare? Non so, è ancora presto.»

I'd be more concerned about his checkered past, shall we say, in being a former laziale cnut, and in that article where it says "although Mancini played and managed Roma’s city rivals Lazio, it is understood that Roma are unconcerned by his links to their co-tenants at the Olympic Stadium". That has to be complete bollix, our new management can't be that fookin tick.

Watching Roma-Juvenutus again, had it recorded, not really the same when watching it in crowded bar in Firenze.

Mancini's a dunce. I actually think he seems like an ok guy, but he's no great manager.

The favoured option should be to hand control to a capable coach and let them work at it for at LEAST two seasons without any bullshit. I'm not sure who I'd like that to be, but I am sure of one thing: I don't want to spend more time thinking about Pallotta and his band of merry men next season than I do about football. I hope the board can find a coach, be patient, back him and shut the fuck up.

Seriously? What exactly has Mancini done that would make Roma want him to manage this team? He wears scarves well, so maybe it's his fashion sense. Spalletti, then Montella and *maybe* Ancelotti would be my choices, but I'm not even sure about Ancelotti. Mazzarri? That's another rumoured name out there.
