Zdenek Zeman To Remain Roma Coach

After an eventful Tuesday afternoon, it emerged during the evening that Zdenek Zeman will remain as Roma coach for the time being. His future at the club had been called into question in recent days after a combination of poor results and his press conference on Saturday that was seen to be critical of the management.

Walter Sabatini hinted yesterday that the Giallorossi hierarchy were considering all possible scenarios as they reflected on the choices for the future, which included replacing the coach - even if, as the sporting director said, it was only a remote possibility.

With the situation needing clarity amid rumours of Laurent Blanc coming in to replace Zeman, the coach was involved in two meetings with Sabatini, Franco Baldini, Claudio Fenucci and Italo Zanzi at Trigoria either side of Tuesday afternoon's training session.

According to Sabatini, who emerged from Trigoria after Zeman had disappeared from the training ground without saying a word, the meetings involved a full exchange of views to establish exactly where everyone stood in light of the last few days.

"Today, as always, the team trained well. A day like any other. The meeting had a different value though, we met with all [key] members of the club because there were questions about his [Zeman's] statements from Saturday. We wanted to resolve them", the director said.

"[Zeman] wants to move forward positively with this team. We have got rid of the possibility [over his dismissal], which had been upsetting us. I'm a man who talks frankly. The situation wasn't very clear, but today we have spoken and we are ready to take on our battles together".

Although the coach had said nothing on leaving Trigoria, it is reported that he was emotional during the meetings as he looked to secure his future. Though this is safe for the immediate future, he is believed to be under scrutiny in the coming matches starting with Cagliari on Friday as the management look for an improvement in the side's fortunes.

Late on Tuesday evening though, Zeman was reported by ANSA to have said that he will strive to do his best in a brief statement.

"I wanted to make a signal, but I will coach [Roma] to the best of my abilities. In doing what I did on Saturday, I wanted to ask for more support", he is quoted as saying.

Report saying we rejected an offer of €6m for Marquinhos. I don't know if thats just a makey-uppy page filler or what, as thats that figure would barely buy his left foot, not to mention the fact that we don't actually tecnically own him and he's still on loan so I can't understand how we'd be able to sell him.

I read an interesting article a few weeks ago with reports of Chelsea looking at Marquinhos for €28m. Not sure if it was just means to sell papers but just thinking about that kind of return is amazing.

Whats delusional about it, Giovanni? I'm sticking with Zeman and giving him time, like I've always said. The majority also want to stick with Zeman now (poll on ), our management has come out and backed him, and the players are all still with him, despite your claims to the contrary which apparently has no basis.

Spalletti does seem like a logical choice, to me at least. His last stint, he came over during a shit storm much like.

All the hatred for Zeman is overdone. This team is about where it has been recently and is well placed for the Copa. Zeman deserves no praise but the hatred is overdone.

I would love to have Spalletti back. What I would have loved more, since Luciano was/is long gone was for us to give Luis Enrique a few years to build things up, youth, playing style, culture etc. I met up with Steve back in October in Chicago, and although it is tough to follow Roma nowadays (I'm busier with work and my own interests - travel and they're not on TV) we both agreed that whilst Zeman produces fun-to-watch football and his passion cannot be discounted, he is not the right coach for Roma at this stage.

Gio, I don't know what to say to you anymore. There is nothing ignorant or delusional about it, I'm just sticking with Zeman for now and dealing with the situation, still hoping and supporting the team in that we can get things together and aim for that third spot, while at the same time acknowledging that if things don't turn around a change may be needed. You need to try supporting the team once in a while rather than taking the brash, typical, dramatic Italian attitude that the world is about to end and change is needed now.

I disagree that Zeman is staying only because there is no one suitable to come in right now. Our management said we are sticking with Zeman and giving him more time, seeing how things go, to see if his 'project', his risk, if you like, can still work and get us to the Champions League. There is no sense in making changes at this stage, the management chose Zeman and there is still plenty of time to turn things around.

Once again, you claim the players are unhappy with Zeman but yet still have no evidence or support to back that up. I posted Perrotta's quotes on Zeman yesterday because his voice is influential and he would not have said those things if he didn't believe them. Totti, Pjanic, Osvaldo, Burdisso have all come out recently and said similar things and said that all the team must shoulder the blame and look to improve. A lot of youngsters like Florenzi, Lamela, Marquinhos have praised Zeman. Who is bad mouthing him? Who is unhappy? DDR is an obvious candidate but he has never said a bad word as he is a pro, and that photo i posted yesterday shows he is ok with Zeman. Pjanic had issues with him earlier but that was simply because he was not starting and has recently been one of Zeman's biggest supporters. Likewise with Stek and Marquinho, it is just an issue of them not playing, which can't be helped, and I don't see it as anything personal toward Zeman. So I'd like to know what makes you think Zeman has lost the support of the players and if you have anything solid to support that rather than just one of your rants.

I know you have seen it before with Zeman, but your scorn for the man is blinding you from looking at the situation logically. Look at what DCG said above in his last post, lots of people are saying similar but you only want to see the blood on the sand.

Why don't we be legit about it and give a manager - I dunno like 3-5 seasons? Rome might riot, but look at the work Barca put in for a period in the 90s ad earl '00s and what they have now. Look at Sir tender Alex and Utd.

No argument from me there, Jamil, all managers should really get a season or two before they are judged, but at Roma it seems like you can't even get a full season anymore. Not just Zeman, but LE was effectively gone before the season ended too. There is little patience in the Italian game, as we know only too well. I do hate the term 'project', too. It doesn't really mean anything. More a managers tenure or time at a club.

Mercato madness over. Roma being Roma, it . If we think Stek was kicking up a fuss before, now its gonna get worse. Apparently he badly wanted the move to Fulham and was given permission to fly to London to seal the deal (loan with an option for €7m being reported), but while he was in the air we canceled the deal as we couldn't find a replacement in time. SkySportItalia reported that Stek wasn't aware the move was vetoed - because he was in the air and so had his phone off - and only found out when he landed and turned his blower back on. Fuckin lol.
