Sneijder: 'Best for all if I leave'

Inter outcast Wesley Sneijder has told Dutch media that “clearly it’s better for everyone if I leave in January.”

The midfielder has not played in months, as after recovering from injury he was dropped due to a contract dispute. The club wants him to lower his €6m per season wages.

“Clearly it’s better for everyone if I leave in January,” Sneijder was quoted as telling Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

“If that doesn’t happen, then I will stay. I have a contract until the end of June 2015 with Inter.”

He has been heavily linked with clubs such as Manchester United, Tottenham, Manchester City, PSG and Anzhi.

Sneijder was also asked about his possible return to the Holland national side, perhaps with the captain’s armband.

“It would be a great honour to wear it again. I have always kept in contact with Louis Van Gaal over the last few months.

“I saw several players try to pass the buck after the Euros, leaking stories to the media about tension in the locker room. It seemed like that to me at times, but the atmosphere wasn’t that bad.”

One could argue that is a move to promote youth.

Guys like Livaja and Longo (I haven't really seen either of them) may not be ready yet, but going for Rocchi is more likely to give them space when they are ready than they would get if Inter went and signed someone who could be about in the longer term.

Or Inter are just flailing around wildly and have no clear plan...

Sunderland tracking Obi?

Inter midfielder Joel Obi could be the subject of a January transfer bid from Sunderland, if reports in Italy are to be believed.

The 21-year-old has suffered an injury-ravaged season so far, playing just one League game all campaign.

And Calcio News believe that the Nigeria international could get his career back on track with a move to Martin O'Neill's side.

A bid of around €5m is likely to be enough to capture the versatile youngster.

If Lampard's wage expectations are really 4M/year, then he is not an option.

The team for the future thing IMO has always been BS. How can someone claim to be building a team for the future when during the transfer market you get 6 players,all of whom above 25 & most above 30? I mean, honestly?

Zanetti to play on at Inter

Javier Zanetti has revealed that he intends to still be playing for Inter next season – even at the age of 40.

The veteran, born in August 1973, only has six months left on his current contract but he thinks he can play on despite the falling sands of time.

“It’s my intention to play for another season,” the Argentine told the Gazzetta dello Sport on Wednesday. “It’s all heading in that direction.

“It wasn’t a decision made on a particular day, but it occurred to me during our run of 10 straight wins earlier in this campaign.

“I often asked myself why I shouldn’t consider playing if I thought I could still give the team a helping hand.”

Even when Zanetti takes the decision to hang up his boots, he’s expected to continue his relationship with the Beneamata.

“I think it would be easier for me to have an office at the Pinetina training base rather than at the club’s HQ,” he continued.

“Whatever I do, I want to stay as close as possible to the first team squad and perhaps represent the club in only certain events.

“After all, there is a risk that I could step on [Inter ambassador] Luis Figo’s toes…”

Zanetti was Massimo Moratti’s first signing in the summer of 1995.

2012

A summary of the good things of 2012. I think the best thing to happen was Andrea Stramaccioni. A coach who imo has the skill and personality to retake us back to the top, despite his young age ad always given that the club follows his instructions. I will also remember 2012 for the superb win at the Juventus Stadium - Priceless thing to end their unbeaten run. Finally I will remember the 3 derbies won, another unprecedented feat. The fact that the club is finally trying to get the financial situation back on track is also a very positive thing.

The negative aspect is the lack of direction from a technical level ... we say we want to give youngsters a chance, but we buy 30 year old players. We say we want to be competitive, but we do nothing to strengthen the squad. I have honestly lost my faith in Branca. Finally, another negative is that it seems that the talks of a new stadium have gone silent one again.

Rocchi to Inter now official

Italian giants Inter have today confirmed the January signing of Lazio captain Tommaso Rocchi.

“F.C. Internazionale welcomes Tommaso Rocchi to the club,” a brief note on their website stated this morning.

“The paperwork relating to the striker's transfer from S.S. Lazio has been delivered to the Lega Serie A offices.

“Rocchi joins Inter on a permanent deal.”

It is understood that the 35-year-old forward, who has only played three Serie A games this season, has signed a short-term agreement until June.
