Yes Coutinho is getting married in december, hence the anticipated holidays. Certainly not a great time to be leaving, considering Sneijder, Guarin & Cambiasso are out.
Certainly Palacio, Milito & Cassono will start against Genoa..

Coppa: Inter drama to beat Verona

Inter beat Hellas Verona 2-0 with Fredy Guarin scoring one and creating another, but Luca Castellazzi was stretchered off and Rodrigo Palacio had to play in goal! Andrea Stramaccioni’s men go on to face either Napoli or Bologna in the Quarter-Finals in January.

Over 8,000 Hellas Verona fans came to San Siro for the Coppa Italia tie, as they were the only Serie B side left in the competition. The Nerazzurri welcomed back Cristian Chivu for his first start in four months after a toe injury, giving him the captain’s armband, and opted for a 3-4-3 system.

It was a foggy night in Milan and Daniele Cacia had the ball in the net after five minutes, but was flagged offside. Play was halted on 15 minutes, as a combination of fog, smoke bombs from the stands and tear gas due to trouble between Hellas fans and police outside were making it difficult to see and breathe on the pitch.

The first real chance of the game saw Verona go on the counter, Cacia held off Chivu with his back to goal and spun round to curl wide of the far post.

Palacio had the ball in the net, but only after the referee had blown the whistle for a foul on Antonio Cassano, so the official should’ve waited to play the advantage. From that free kick on the edge of the box, Cassano turned a dangerous set piece inches past the upright.

Alvarez completed a give-and-go with Palacio to toe-poke at full stretch, but goalkeeper Rafael performed a desperate reaction save with his trailing foot.

Jonathan Carrozza came off the bench and within 90 seconds had stung Castellazzi’s palms with an angled drive. Moments later, an inspired Cassano cross-field pass sent Alvarez running and his shot was deflected on to the side-netting.

The deadlock was broken soon after on the counter-attack, as Guarin tackled Evangelos Moras in midfield and Cassano burst through the middle, keeping his cool to draw the goalkeeper out and deposit a delicate angled drive into the empty net.

Palacio leapt in the air, but not enough to make contact with Yuto Nagatomo’s cross, and the move continued with Alvarez’s fierce strike earning a corner.

Inter doubled their lead with a stroke of luck, as a touched-on Guarin free kick from the edge of the box took a massive deflection off Emil Hallfredsson to loop in off the underside of the crossbar.

The Nerazzurri had woken up and Cassano set up Palacio for a lob that Rafael flew to flap out from under the bar. The goalkeeper was better with his hands than his feet, as he cleared straight on to Palacio and the ricochet sailed just off target.

Castellazzi leapt to catch a Hallfredsson deflected strike, but the Inter shot-stopper landed awkwardly on his shoulder and was able to continue after treatment.

Javier Zanetti also came on and volleyed over from a Cassano chipped cross, then Rafael parried a Palacio shot from point-blank range at the near post after FantAntonio’s backheel flick.

Verona could’ve come back into the game at the 70th minute, but Valeri Bojinov’s brilliant first touch to send him clear was not matched by a terrible blast over the bar.

Cacia hit a fantastic half-volley that Castellazzi palmed out from under the bar, but again the Inter goalkeeper landed on that left shoulder and was stretchered off in agony. It was particularly bad timing at the 78th minute, as Inter had already completed their substitutions. Palacio went in goal wearing second choice ‘keeper Vid Belec’s shirt. Chivu had seemed to be taking the gloves, but the Argentine was chosen after a discussion between players.

Bojinov fired wide from 12 yards, then Armin Bacinovic had a free header at the back post, but didn’t get enough power on to it and Palacio was able to save.

Palacio performed a wonderful save with one hand to turn Carrozza’s header round the post and grinned from ear to ear after this surprising feat.

Yes I tend to agree on Alvarez. He's a talented guy, but he doesn't have any 'will to win' (cattiveria agonistica). I tend to don't particularly appreciate those kind of players. Coutinho seems moving on the same road I'm afraid...hope he doesn't.
Duncan will become a good player, not sure if he'll be Inter material though.

Thoughts - Should we sacrifice the Coppa and the Europa league so our aging/injured squad has less games to play to ensure we have our best team playing the Serie A matches and we finish in the top 3?

Cluj 'wanted to avoid Inter'

Romanian club Cluj admit they “really wanted to avoid” Inter in the Europa League draw, though at least the second leg will be at home.

Cluj came third in their Champions League group and now face the Nerazzurri in the Round of 32.

“I had said that we really wanted to avoid Atletico Madrid and Inter, but we didn’t manage it,” said Cluj President Arpad Paszkany.

“Nonetheless, we still have a 50 per cent chance of going through. It will be crucial to score at least a goal in Milan.

“It means a lot for us to be playing the second leg on home turf in Romania.”

The first match is at San Siro on February 14, while the return is at the Constantin Radulescu Stadium on February 21.

I hope that's true but I find it difficult to see extraordinary attributes in him. I can see extraodinary attributes in Pogba for example who is roughly his age.
Haven't seen him play much so I hope he turns out good enough.

Sneijder leaving Inter – wife

The wife of Wesley Sneijder has revealed that the Dutchman will quit Inter during the January transfer window.

“We are about to leave Milan,” Yolanthe Cabau told the Dutch media. “Everything could be sorted out in the first few days of January.

“Our destination? We’re looking for an ideal place for our family. For the moment, I’m not thinking of my career.”

Sneijder has been in dispute with the Italian giants in recent times after he rejected their request to accept a €2m cut in salary.

He hasn’t played for the club in Serie A since the Week 5 win at Chievo, firstly because of injury and then because of “tactical decisions” by boss Andrea Stramaccioni.

Sneijder was allowed to start his Christmas holidays early this week, despite the fact that the Beneamata still had two games left to play at the time.

The former Real Madrid man has been paired with Paris Saint-Germain, as well as both Manchester clubs.

Sneijder has won one championship, the Champions League, two Italian Cups, one Italian Super Cup and one World Club Cup with Inter.

Guarin suspended for Genoa

Fredy Guarin has been left out of Inter's squad for the game against Genoa tomorrow after the FIGC rejected the club's suspension appeal.

The Colombian international had been given a one-match ban following his 'aggressive and intimidating' conduct towards referee Paolo Mazzoleni after the Nerazzurri's 1-0 loss to Lazio.

But the governing body have decided to overturn the appeal which means the 26-year-old will miss out on Saturday at San Siro.

Elsewhere for Andrea Stramaccioni's side, Dejan Stankovic and Joel Obi are still unavailable.

Esteban Cambiasso fought back to give Inter a slender point at home to Genoa, but Marko Livaja missed from a yard!

The Nerazzurri’s Scudetto hopes took a hammering with last week’s 1-0 defeat to Lazio, so a result was sorely needed to close the seven-point gap at the top of the table. Genoa looked like the ideal victims after one win and a draw in Gigi Del Neri’s nine games in charge. Fredy Guarin was suspended, joining the injured Dejan Stankovic, Joel Obi, Gaby Mudingayi, Yuto Nagatomo and Luca Castellazzi. Emiliano Moretti and Felipe Seymour sat out bans, joining Cesare Bovo, Cristobal Jorquera and Bosko Jankovic, while Marco Borriello was dropped following yesterday’s blazing row with director Rino Foschi.

This was a special fixture for Andrea Stramaccioni, who made his Serie A debut in an epic 5-4 Inter victory over Genoa on April 1, while Diego Milito and Rodrigo Palacio faced their former club. The Grifone last conquered San Siro in 1994, followed by seven defeats and two draws in all competition.

Sebastien Frey performed a bizarre save feet first when Palacio went clear on an Antonio Cassano ball over the top. At the other end, Juraj Kucka shinned into the air from a promising position.

Andrea Ranocchia was booked and will be suspended for the first game of 2013 against Udinese.

Genoa had a great chance on 29 minutes when Andrea Bertolacci’s disguised pass set up Ciro Immobile on the edge of the box, forcing a one-handed save out of Samir Handanovic.

Play had to be halted for a few minutes, as the linesman’s flag needed repairs, but during that break Cassano went to say hello to his former Sampdoria Coach Del Neri. Alvarez was also carrying a thigh problem and had to make way for Alvaro Pereira.

Juan Manuel Vargas wasted a golden opportunity, as he tried to shoot when Marco Rossi was totally unmarked in the middle. The former Fiorentina winger also blasted over from just outside the box.

There was another substitution after the break, as Cristian Chivu replaced Juan Jesus for his Serie A debut this season. The Romanian, who was out for four months with a serious toe injury, had made his comeback in the Coppa Italia midweek. It was a change of system with Chivu in midfield, moving Javier Zanetti and Alvaro Pereira to full-backs.

Straight after the restart, Palacio burst forward on to a Milito through ball only to blast over the bar. Palacio again sprung the offside trap from a Milito assist, but his chest and strike on the volley was brilliantly beaten away by Frey at the near post, then Milito fired the follow-up off target.

Handanovic bravely flung himself at Rossi’s feet to stop him turning in a Kucka ball over the top from six yards, getting a knee in the face for his trouble.

Bertolacci limped off with cramp and Handanovic again had to react quickly to palm a dangerous Giammario Piscitella pass off the foot of Immobile from close range.

There had been warnings and Genoa took the lead with Immobile, who sprung the offside trap down the left and beat Ranocchia in a one-on-one to beat Handanovic with a fierce left-foot angled drive. The Neapolitan Under-21 international reacted angrily in his celebrations, urging the previously jeering Genoa fans to stay quiet.

Stramaccioni threw on Marko Livaja for midfielder Walter Gargano, so there were four strikers on the field. Ranocchia’s header from a corner was just over the bar, while Immobile’s first touch let him down on another counter-attack.

Inter poured forward and it was Esteban Cambiasso who drew level with a precise header at the near post from six yards for his second goal of the season. Cassano had whipped in the cross from the left.

The Nerazzurri were now desperate to turn it around in the final five minutes, but Palacio’s first touch was poor and from the corner Frey grabbed Ranocchia’s header.

Livaja incredibly failed to score at the 90th minute, as Milito put the ball across the face of goal that only had to be tapped in, but it was thumped against the post from a couple of yards! It then ricocheted off Palacio back out where it was again fired off target.

Genoa replaced substitute Anselmo after just 20 minutes on the field and Daniel Tozser’s free kick daisy-cutter whistled past the post, while Cambiasso shinned a volley well wide. With the last kick of the game, Alvaro Pereira needed a crucial tackle to stop Kucka on the counter.
