Zdenek Zeman: Roma Must Not Underestimate Chievo Match

Zdenek Zeman held his press conference on Saturday afternoon ahead of Sunday's match at Chievo, and he is looking for Roma to keep their recent performances going against the Flying Donkeys.

"The team is expressing itself well now and is making fewer mistakes. The team is realising that they can play and they are playing. There's desire, there's enthusiasm to perform well", Zeman explained in his press conference.

"I'll give you the team tomorrow, all three keepers are in good shape even if we haven't seen [Bogdan] Lobont in the team yet. For me [Erik] Lamela is a forward, just as [Francesco] Totti is a forward. [Miralem] Pjanic is becoming one. Yes it's possible [that they may play up front].

"Erik is fine today, maybe he hasn't played for a while but physically he's good and he's also good mentally. The debate [about whether Roma are the team of the future of Serie A] is one for the present - we have many youngsters showing what they are about, most recently [Alessio] Romagnoli. I hope that these guys are Roma's future, but I also hope that they are the present and it seems to me that they are doing very well.

"I don't think we can underestimate the Chievo game, both because of the results we have got away from home and because of the pitch, which I hope will allow us to play football".

Zeman also highlighted that there are players who are possibly undeservedly missing out on first team football, but is keen to stress that the players who are on the fringes don't necessarily have to be behind him but must be behind the club in order for the team to succeed.

"The base of the team is there, maybe there are players who aren't playing but who could deserve it, unfortunately we can only play with 11 players. Given that this team is doing well though, we must see if others do better in training.

"They don't have to be on my side - they have to be on Roma's side and to try and play for the club's objectives, it's not enough just to play. The team has realised this and is demonstrating that it wants to achieve something. This certainly helps, perhaps not for individual players but definitely for the team".

Roma also announced on Thursday that they will be travelling to the USA for a friendly against Orlando City during the mid-season break, and the coach is not unhappy with the arrangements and hopes it will help to keep the team's momentum going.

"These agreements have been made, I hope that we'll be able to work well there. I know that the facilities are good and the weather will also help us to work very positively. We have four days of training and I hope we'll be able to do our best. The problem will be with the time zones, I hope that they don't affect us".

Post game, Zeman didn't meet the media and Baldini went instead. Also this from Totti: “If I say anything, I’ll get suspended.”

Was it that bad? I guess I had the same foggy view that the rest of you watching had, but I didn't think the referee/linesmen were terrible. Perhaps the Chievo goal was offside, but I didn't think it was terribly so.

Actually, now that I think of it, it's too bad that Zeman didn't speak to the media because I'd love to know what he was thinking giving the captain's armband to Osvaldo instead of DDR.

God damn feck, we lost? Jasus. I missed this one, and have been waiting for a download link all evening but no sign anywhere, unfortunately. I guess with the game being 'low profile', and not been shown live on any channels (aside from Italia, I'm sure, and maybe the States?), caps of the game are scarce. How da fook did we lose? Those highlights are actually hilarious, it has to be said, you can't really see anything after about half-way. Seriously, I couldn't even see Pellisier's goal? Whatthefucklike.

Marquinhos ankle sprain, not good, he left the stadio on crutches. With Castan suspended for next week v Milan after a yellow, I see, we better pray Marquinhos is ok.

Totti on Sergio Pellissier's goal for Chievo: "If I speak, I'll be banned" – what was the story there? Like whats the controversy?

Sounds like a frustrating game all round. Need to refocus to get back on track next week.

It’s early days yet, but we're already at a point where this is worth a look. Quietly, ever so quietly, he’s gone from punch line and a rushed foray into the January market, driving Sebastian Jung’s price skyrocketing, to a solid, occasionally excellent, member of the starting eleven – and an automatic one at that. He’s Bizarro Jose Angel in a way: in the same way Cote burst out of the gate and then flopped miserably, Piris stepped off the plane from Paraguay into a hole from which he’s slowly been climbing himself out.

Moreover, he’s done something no one’s been able to do in several years: he’s kept Rodrigo Taddei off the pitch. Obviously rightback is not Rodrigo’s natural position – his actual natural position is the one in which he’s making that surfer-dude gesture with a massive smile – but he’s spent his entire career in Rome finding any way to get onto the pitch. He’s adaptability personified. And suddenly, he can’t even get a minute.

Zago torna a Roma: allenerà la difesa

Secondo quanto riportato da SkySport, Antonio Carlos Zago, ex difensore della Roma del terzo scudetto, entrerà a far parte dello staff di Zdenek Zeman. Il suo compito sarà quello di allenare la fase difensiva della squadra giallorossa. Inizierà a lavorare al suo incarico già dal prossimo Gennaio.

Reports of Zago returning to Rome to take up a position of defensive coach under Zeman. He's coaching back in Brazil but could return to Rome as soon as January. He knows Zeman and his style quite well, so if it helps out the defence then why not.

today to announce our new CEO, Italo Zanzi. Presumably he got the job for his Italian name, even if he doesn't speak Italian. He's replacing Mark Pannes, whom, to be honest, I've no idea what he done in the club during his time.

Recently Italo worked on behalf of the America’s Cup Event Authority overseeing media rights sales and future event planning. He also consulted on several independent sports and entertainment business projects.

Until October 2011, Italo served as Deputy General Secretary of CONCACAF, The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football. In this capacity, Italo oversaw the Confederation's revenue generating activities, including the CONCACAF Champions League and Gold Cup, as well as its communications and marketing. He also represented the Confederation on FIFA's Committee for Fair Play and Social Responsibility and Media Committee.

Italo Zanzi was a goalkeeper for the US National Team Handball team from 1997 to 2007. He competed in 75 international matches and won a Bronze medal at the 2003Pan American Games. He was named the United States Olympic Committee’s Team Handball Athlete of the Year in 2000, 2002, and 2004.[9] Before being introduced to team handball in 1996 after the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Italo was an accomplished soccer player. He played for the University of Chicago where he was named Most Valuable Player in 1995 and later spent a pre-season with the professional soccer team Club Deportivo Lo Barnechea in Chile. He also served as Assistant Coach for the Emory University men's soccer team from 1996 to 1999.

Italo received El Diaro’s “EL Award” in 2005 which is awarded to top Hispanics in business, politics, and entertainment. Italo Zanzi earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Chicago in 1996, and Juris Doctor and MBA from Emory University in 1999.


Palotta and Baldini also announced that DDR is not for sale. And the aim for this season is a CL spot. And that we plan to have the new stadio in five years.........

Giovanni, whats your thoughts on this Italo Zanzi? Do you know him? What exactly will he BE doing working with Roma? Pallotta that he would be like a "global CEO", a sort of "president-elect representing the US property in Rome".
