Was unable to see any of the game (at Rovers) but excellent result at a ground where we've had some nightmares in recent years. Delighted for Destro too. Three wins on the bounce, who'd have thought it, not against three strong teams but you can only beat what's put out in front of you. Fiorentina next week will show us if we've turned the corner or not.

Gianni Vio? Fiorentina have scored with two set-pieces tonight against Sampdoria. First from a corner and a perfectly timed header from Savic, and Savic got the second from a peach of a delivery from a free from Pasquale. We'll have to watch them.

Yeah, I saw that in la repubblica. Nice piece and a good message. The league really is looking a little brighter these days. Coaches are going for games and owners are being forced to look inward, or at least somewhere cheap, for young talent. And there's no shortage of it right now. What's exciting about it, too, is that if the teams are well-managed (not always a given in football) these young guys can be the building blocks for some great sides. I always thought that there was really no point for most teams spending massive money on a world-class player who was 28+. They're like a finishing piece: only worth the money if the rest of the puzzle has been solved already. When you have a bunch of young guys, there's plenty of time to try new things and work on achieving something and I think that it's something fans respond to.

Its amazing how only a few years ago (after the 2010 World Cup) everyone was saying there are no good young players coming through and the future of Serie A and the Azzurri looks very bleak. There was genuine concern. I never really bought into it, to be honest, I always thought the talent was there but what had to change was the mentality to put trust in youth and give them a shot. That hasn't been the sole reason, like Colly said the economical factor played into it with clubs not splashing out millions on new players and instead promoting or signing young players for less.

Looking back after that 2010 World Cup, everyone thought the future was bad, particularly up front where Italy really struggled in that tournament, but now you have the likes of El Shaarawy, Balotelli, Giovinco (still looks like a teenager), Destro, Insigne, Gabbiadini, Borini and Immobile all doing well.

Perhaps the talent is being over-rated now in direct proportion to the degree to which it was being under-rated before?
