The chances of Juve conceding less than two goals with that defence would be pretty slim.

I'd play Lucio rather than Marrone and have Barzagli as the central man in the back three.

No way I'd trust Marrone to play CB in a game where Juve will actually have to do some defending.

I think one of the two will recover for the game. But if they don't I actually trust Marrone over Lucio. Lucio is way too slow, and Marrone ill hustle.

Thoroughly rubbish performace.

No energy or intensity or ideas.

Milan pressed well early, but Juve were sloppy with their passing. That gave Milan chances to counter-attack and often get three on three. Juve's defence did reasonably well to restrict the number of clear chances Milan got from those breaks.

Juve attacked in exactly the way Milan wanted them to. Milan gave Juve the right flank, in favour of blocking up Asamoah and the centre of the pitch. All Juve's attacking ended up down the right, but the crossing was woeful.

There was no sign of Juve moving the ball fast enough or well enough to cause Milan problems in any other areas of the pitch or to stretch them out enough to create the space for a midfield runner to burst forward.

Given that Juve were doing nothing other than shuffling it down the right and crossing, I didn't understand bringing Giovinco on. He was never going to do anything in that game, whereas the physical presence of Matri or Bendtner in the box may have been useful.

Yeah we lacked a lot of creativity, precision, and timing with our passing. I we clearly didn't deserve to win, but I'm not sure Milan really did enough for this to be considered a deserved victory for them. Quags and Vooch both had poor games, same goes for Isla and pretty much the rest of the team. We had a bit of a CL hangover.

I'm surprised Conte went with Quags and Vooch seeing as they both started against Chelsea and Vooch is just coming off an injury.
I also didn't understand why he didn't bring on Pepe instead of Padoin. We could've used his crosses.
I agree with you on Giovinco, but he did almost have that incredible bicycle kick.

We can afford a loss like this coming off an important game against Chelsea, but I hope we don't make a habit out of it.

Yeah, I'd have gone with Pepe rather than Padoin, too.

Milan played a decent enough first half, so they could make a case for having deserved to win the game.

Sabato primo dicembre va in scena il derby della Mole: la Juventus ospita il Torino. Per celebrare l’evento è sceso “in campo” anche il settimanale per bambini “Topolino“. Protagonisti della storia sono Paperino e Paperoga. I nomi delle due squadre sono stati però un po’ cambiati in Corino (Torino) e Rubentus (ovviamente Juventus). Una mossa che ha scatenato non poco l’ira dei tifosi bianconeri in Rete.
I tifosi juventini suonano la carica, ritenendo inaccettabile uno sgarbo sportivo di questo livello. Sul web l’insurrezione si è ormai gonfiata a dismisura tra chi invita ad un boicottaggio del giornalino e chi propone querele ai danni dell’autore.

Always good to win a derby, get the three points, and rest a few players right before an important CL game.
Personally I thought the red card was justified, Although it wasn't directly from behind, Glik went in cleates up on Giak's standing leg/ankle from a goal-side position at an angle. Although I wouldn't have been shocked if it was a yellow with a stern warning. As a spectator I wouldn't have minded if he was given just a yellow, because it would've made for a better game.

Horrible pk by Pirlo. They should let Giovinco take them when Vidal is off the field.

Derby Juventus-Torino, striscione vergognoso con riferimento a Superga

Allo Juventus Stadium, durante il derby col Torino, compare un telo di 30 metri che fa un chiaro a vergognoso riferimento alla tragedia di Superga, quando un disastro aereo segnò la fine del Grande Torino. Esistono anche cori che fanno riferimento (in negativo) alla vicenda, ma com'è possibile che uno striscione del genere sia rriuscito a passare i controlli?

In Italia ci si lamenta sempre del tifo calcistico che da sportivo e vivace spesso sfocia in becero e violento. Il derby di Torino, che ha visto la vittoria della Juventus, purtroppo sarà ricordato anche per uno striscione di pessimo gusto comparso nella Curva Sud, quella degli ultrà bianconeri, allo Juventus Stadium.



Il riferimento è al Grande Torino e alla strage di Superga: "Noi di Torino orgoglio e vanto, voi solo uno schianto". Esistono anche dei cori juventini che esaltano la tragedia vissuta dalla società granata, ma i cori non si possono fermare. Uno striscione però sì.



A questo punto ci si chiede come abbia fatto un elemento lungo 30 metri a passare i controlli, che dovrebbero essere rigidi e regolamentati, e a essere esposto senza che nessuno battesse ciglio. L'episodio è grave e probabilmente il Giudice Sportivo dovrà prendere dei provvedimenti, ammesso che non sia la stessa Juventus a muovere i primi passi in questo senso.

So, what are people wanting Juve to do differently from the game in Turin in order to have more control over the game?

Juve were really caught out with Shakhtar flooding the middle of the pitch and focusing a lot of their attacks through Pirlo's area of the pitch.

The defence was then left looking very exposed.

The wingbacks in that game didn't seem to know what they were meant to be doing - marking, tucking in beside the defence, trying to stop the midfield being dominated - and just ended up standing in nothing postions out wide and really didn't help matters.

I think I'd sort of twist the 3-5-2 slightly towards it being a 4-4-2/4-4-1-1.

I'd have Lichtsteiner play more like an orthodox RB and get Asamoah playing as a sort of narrow LM, in order to help the midfield.

I'd also have Vidal or Pogba playing deep in front of the defence with Pirlo, so thay Juve have more power in there to give the defence better protection.

That should also make it clearer what everyone's responsibility is, rather than having two wingbacks loitering in wide area and serving no useful purpose.

The only thing would be that, with the system I'd be proposing, the Shakhtar fullbacks could have be left in space, so Juve would have to back themselves to deal with crosses properly. From what I've seen of Shakhtar, that would be a comparatively safe way of playing them.

Giorgio Chiellini, Paul Pogba and Sebastian Giovinco are in the starting XI as Juventus must earn a point at Shakhtar Donetsk to continue their Champions League adventure.

The Bianconeri leapfrogged Chelsea with their 3-0 victory in Turin, so will be secure of qualification if they avoid defeat in Ukraine tonight or Nordsjaelland emerge unbeaten from Stamford Bridge.

Mircea Lucescu’s Shakhtar have already sealed their spot in the last 16 and are eager to keep hold of top spot.

Luiz Adriano is suspended for breaking the fair play rules after his infamous goal against Nordjsaelland, where his teammates were trying to give back the ball following time out for an injury and he pounced to score undisturbed.

Eduardo is chosen to fill in for Luiz Adriano, while Tomas Hubschman and Dymtro Chygrynskiy are injured for Shakhtar.

Chiellini returns to the Juventus line-up after missing two games with a calf problem, while Leonardo Bonucci is also fit following a bout of flu.

Arturo Vidal is also back after a ban ruled him out of the Turin Derby on Saturday, while Pogba steps in for the suspended Claudio Marchisio.

Giovinco is chosen as the partner for Mirko Vucinic in attack, while Kwadwo Asamoah and Stephan Lichtsteiner take the wings.

Really good performance.

Asamoah focused more on Srna, with Chiellini taking the furthest right of the attacking midfielders and that allowed Juve to be much more assertive and press Shakhtar higher up the pitch than they were able to in the game in Turin.

The forwards moved really well and Vucinic did well holding the ball up.

Only real criticism is that it took Juve as long to score as they did and that they then didn't get the second goal to kill the game off.

Shakhtar only really looked dangerous for a few minutes at the start of the second half, when they came out with more intensity and Juve were trying to press high up to get the goal. That led to a couple of dangerous counter attacks from Juve over-committing, but the goal came pretty quickly and Juve were able to drop off.

Thought Bonucci had a great game. He probably just edges Chiellini and Vidal for man of the match.

Wasn't really a bad performance from anyone, though, even if Buffon looked a bit iffy at times.

Vooch had one of the best games I've seen him have with a Juve jersey.

I thought Shakhter started the 2nd half with a lot more energy and they looked pretty dangerous.

Professional job by us. Did what we needed to do. It's just a shame Chiellini ended up getting the yellow.
