They won't be sponsoring our jerseys, but like that piece says, our deal with WIND ends this summer, so Volkswagen could take over.

With the rumours of the Yanks wanting to bring in a bigger kit manufacturer like Adidas to replace Kappa, who knows, we could see something like this next season:



We couldn't possibly have a strong blue logo (like the main VW logo is) as our sponsor for obvious reasons. Personally I like the Kappa kits and want to stay with them.

They aren't "Roma ultras". They're are two scumbag Nazi fascist idiots who happen to support Roma. There is a difference, as headlines like that lead you to believe it was "Roma ultras" who carried out this attack on Spurs fans, when it was some Nazi anti-semitic group who organised it to target what they see as Jews (because of Spurs historical connection to the Jewish community in London).

What makes it even worse is that these two Roma 'fans' who were arrested clearly done this with Lazio fans, their supposed biggest enemies. That shows it has nothing to do with football.

Which is all the subject of that book (Football, Fascism and Fandom: The UltraS of Italian Football). Defining Ultras and UltraS. And unfortunately, it's a blurred line between the two these days. I've seen the odd racist chant, and the occasional fascist/hateful banner, and they were definitely among "traditional" ultra groups in the Curva. Like others on here, I know that most ultras are not like that, because I live it, follow the sport and understand the context, but certain groups of them have become infected with this malaise. Not just in Italy, but across Europe.

Personally, I hate using the word Ultra in english. It has a different meaning; a meaning implied by those who wish to demonise football fans, and inferred by idiots who like the idea of somehow being "real" and slightly threatening at the same time.

Yeh, I hate the way the word ultra is bandied about as having the same meaning as 'hooligans'. I haven't read that book yet, actually; it was on my list ages ago but I forgot all about it. Might get it for Christmas. There's no denying there is still an element of fascists/idiots not just in Roma/Lazio, but in most football clubs, really, as calcio and the ultra aspect is often something which attracts those sorts. Giovanni can attest to it all too well having seen it all down the years. The authorities could really do more, you feel, to try and weed them out from calcio and from attending matches.

Makes it appear like it was a football issue that the football authorities ought to have prevented, whereas the attack seems to have little to do with football and more to do with issues in Italian society.

I agree, Red, it was an unusual move from Abete and the FIGC to make an official apology for it, it wasn't anything to do with football.

Wtf, we're getting rid of Kappa? We had a contract with them until 2017. Whats this about, because of "a serious breach of contract"? Anyone know what that refers to? I was talking about our kits the other day, I like Kappa and their stuff. But I guess its not a big surprise that our new management would want to break with them. That Adidas kit with Volkswagen sponsor (see post above) may not be too far fetched after all...

In consideration of the serious defects found in the technical material and the line of clothing produced by BASIC ITALIA S.p.A. for the 2012/13 season, the A.S. Roma S.p.A. board of directors has decided to cancel the contract with the technical sponsor with immediate effect due to BASIC ITALIA's non-performance of contractual obligations. The board of directors reserve the right to pursue A.S. Roma's best interests through the appropriate channels.
The A.S. Roma team will continue to wear the technical material with the Kappa brand until the end of the current season.

if i were zeman, i wouldn't be using bradley as a regista against torino and pescara, games where our sole objective is to score goals, but against teams like juve and napoli. ffs. maybe he just wanted to play pjanic that much, and since taxi and pjanic means only 1 runner in a zeman midfield, it doesn't really work for him. and maybe bradley + pjanic poses more of an offensive threat than taxi + bradley, after all. i wouldn't bet on it, though.

Excellent performance. Not. Pretty dire game. Win ugly is good though, two wins and two clean sheets. We would have won 10-0 if Osvaldo gave a fuck and Destro had his shooting boots on. Destro is a tryer, he should have scored more but he'll come good, but Osvaldo just fucking irritates me. His attitude and general poncing around the pitch makes me want to slap him.

Pescara 0-1 Roma - Mattia Destro Fires Roma To 3 Points

Roma recorded their third win in four games and their second consecutive clean sheet as they picked up a 1-0 win against Zdenek Zeman's former side Pescara.

Roma started strongly and were ahead after just five minutes when Mattia Perin was unable to hold onto Francesco Totti's long range free kick and Mattia Destro was on hand to tap home the rebound.

After going ahead, the visitors' intensity dropped a little as Pescara tried to get back into the game, but Roma's defence was comfortably dealing with the Delfini's attacking threats. Totti was working hard to win the ball back in midfield for Roma, but was struggling to find his passing range early on.

There was nothing wrong with Totti's free kick accuracy though as he forced Perin into another save from an effort from distance on 19 minutes, but this time the Pescara keeper was able to punch the ball away from danger. At the other end there was a moment of indecision from Mauro Goicoechea as he closed down Francesco Modesto but he recovered well to clear the ball away.

Although Roma were fairly comfortable in defence, the spark of Erik Lamela was missing up front as they struggled to get in behind Pescara and the final ball was often lacking quality. Instead the creative impetus lay with Totti, who curled in an excellent ball on 31 minutes that Destro headed towards goal only to see Perin make a fine reaction save.

As the half wore on, Pescara looked more confident moving forwards but were still unable to test Goicoechea in the Giallorossi goal and remained behind at the break.

Alessandro Florenzi fired a 20-yard shot just wide of the post at the start of the second half before Totti again found Destro but the striker was off balance and couldn't steer his shot on target. Moments later, Destro had a one-on-one opportunity but Perin made a good save to stop his side going 2-0 down.

It was a far more positive Roma than ended the first half, and the visitors kept pressing as they searched for a second goal. Totti and Destro both had shots go just wide of Perin's left hand post, but Pescara's introduction of Vladimir Weiss started to turn the tide as the hosts looked more threatening on the ball.

Just when it looked like Pescara were about to equalise, Ivan Piris made an excellent block to stop Elvis Abbruscato's close range shot from flying towards goal. Marquinho then had a chance to seal the win as Roma broke quickly but the Brazilian slipped as he took his shot and it ended up well wide.

The home side were ending the game strongly but were leaving spaces open at the back, leaving Roma with opportunities to counter, but first Weiss and then Abbruscato had chances to equalise in the final five minutes. The late flurry was not enough though and Roma saw out the four minutes of injury time to record a win in Zeman's 100th game in charge of the club.

De Rossi ha scelto un viaggio lontano da Roma, mentre i suoi compagni di squadra preparavano, prima di vincere, la partita di Pescara. Chiaro che, nel giorno in cui a Stamford Bridge si è giocata la partita tra Chelsea e Manchester City, l’allarme potesse scattare. Anche perché le prime voci in arrivo dall’Inghilterra avevano parlato della presenza di De Rossi in tribuna in casa dei Blues. (…) Il mediano, approfittando dello stop forzato dovuto alla squalifica, ha chiesto un permesso di un giorno alla Roma per volare a Londra.
