I had my laptop on mute, so I didn't hear the song. Iranians have been talking about this kid for a while, we had another play, ferydoon zandi, who was German on his mothers side, who also played in the German youth system, but ended up representing Iran at the 06 wc. I think dejagah was hoping to play for Germany but he fell off a little. Hopefully he can do well for us, because we could use a consistent forward, especially one of his physique.
PFDC - KUALA LUMPUR, The weekend has been busy in Asia with World Cup qualification round 2 coming towards the end.
In group A, already qualified Jordan's amazing run was ended by Iraq, who thanks to the 3-1 win in Amman eliminated China with only the quest for the top spot remaining open for the final matchday in February.
Group B saw surprise team Lebanon handing South Korea the first defeat, keeping the small nation in second place and in the haunt for a spot in the next and final round with ten points collected. Also South Korea have 10 points so far and will need to avoid a slip-up against hopeful Kuwait, who are third with eight points.
In group C, Uzbekistan and Japan had already secured their spots in the next round last week, so Japan's 0-1 loss to already eliminated North Korea in Pyongyang didn't matter. Unbeaten Uzbekistan top the group after thrashing Tajikistan 3-0 and need to avoid a loss in Tokyo in February to keep the, however meaningless, top position.
While Australia are already certain group D winners, Saudi Arabia are still fearing elimination after a goalless draw with Oman in Riyadh. Should third-placed Oman, currently on five points, win their homegame against Thailand on the final matchday, only a Saudi win in Australia would avoid the catastrophe. Even Thailand (four points) are still not certainly out of the race.
Iran, the second Asian team unbeaten in this qualifying campaign, secured a spot in the next stage thanks to a comfortable 4-1 defeat of Indonesia in Jakarta. Tiny Persian Gulf island Bahrain are meanwhile as good as eliminated following their 0-0 draw in Doha. Bahrain could still catch up to Qatar should they beat Indonesia and Qatar lose in Tehran, but making up a minus nine goal difference seems impossible.
Qatar could still knock Iran from the top spot with a surprise win in Azadi stadium.
Iran, however, have the most dangerous attack of Asia currently, having scored 15 goals in five matches. Second best offense belongs to Japan, who have scored 14 goals, followed by South Korea with 12 goals netted.
Best defense is Uzbekistan with only one goal conceded, followed by Japan (two goals) and five teams including Iran with three conceded goals.
Logically, Iran and Japan have the best goal difference.
The top two teams of the five groups qualify for the fourth and final round of Asian World Cup qualifying, where the ten teams will be split into two groups. While the two top teams of each group will participate in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the to third-placed teams will compete for a spot in a two-legged playoff against a South American opponent for the final World Cup final berth.
"Iran, however, have the most dangerous attack of Asia currently, having scored 15 goals in five matches."
lol. Although it's true, the guy conveniently left out the fact that 6 of those goals came against a Bahrain team that played practically the whole game with 10 men.
We've avoided Iran and S.Korea and will face Japan. Would have been quite a difficult task either way. Not entirely confident that we will top the group. How do you feel about the draw Bagg?
Fulham Football Club can confirm the signing of Ashkan Dejagah from VfL Wolsburg on a three-year deal with an additional year’s option, for an undisclosed fee, which will see the player at the Club until at least 2015.
The 26-year-old winger made over 150 appearances in five seasons at Wolfsburg, having spent three years prior at Hertha Berlin.
His impressive performances for the Bundesliga side last season - where he registered many assists for his team - earned him a first international call-up, where he has so far scored two goals in three matches for Iran.
Prior to making his senior international debut for Iran, Dejagah represented Germany at every age group from the U17s to U21s.
Dejagah played twice against Fulham during the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League campaign, coming on as substitute in both legs of the Quarter-Final tie.
Dejagah said: "I’m very happy to be signing for Fulham and to come and play in the Premiershit. I know Sascha [Riether] well and he told me very good things about the Club and, after I had spoken to the Manager and heard about the project here, I was convinced. So I am happy to be here and will give my best for the Club and our fans."
We are really in trouble here. I don't think anyone was expecting Australia to be this far behind in the qualifying stages, but they only have themselves to blame. We are STILL relying on players that led us to the '06 World Cup! How are we supposed to keep up with teams in Asia that have younger, quicker and more nimble players? If we somehow manage to scrape through to the next World Cup with these players I will still be disappointed considering we are hosting the Asian Cup the year after and will definitely be embarrassed on home soil. Surely this team cannot play on until then.
