Inter Milan to Tempt Man United With £23.8m Nani Swap Offer

Old Trafford side may be open to San Siro player exchange.

CalcioMercato believe that Inter Milan are ready to step up their chase for Man United winger Nani following reports that the Portuguese international has been in training ground confrontation with team-mate Davide Petrucci.
This source reports that the San Siro side will look to use Old Trafford target Wesley Sneijder as bait in their pursuit of the 25 year old Man United star. Sir tender Alex Ferguson has long been linked with interest in the Dutch playmaker and may well be interested in a deal that could see the Premiershit side land the former Real Madrid and Ajax man.

The Inter Milan playmaker may feel the time is right to consider a move away from the San Siro and by January he will be able to judge on how much of an improvement life under young boss Andrea Stramaccioni has proved.
Sir tender Alex Ferguson is willing to use Nani as bait to secure Sneijder after spending months trying to get the former Sporting Lisbon man to put pen to paper on a new deal. The arrival of Shinji Kagawa may well lessen the wide-man’s role in the first team picture. Indeed Nani has started just half of the club’s Premiershit fixtures thus far this season.

Nani may well be tempted by a move to Inter Milan where he may find a regular spot in Stramaccioni’s first team set-up.
Wesley Sneijder was signed by Jose Mourinho in the summer of 2009 and in his first season at the club he helped the Italian giants to a treble of Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League successes but life at Inter Milan has somewhat nosedived since the ‘Special One’ left for Real Madrid.
In 2010/11 arch rivals AC Milan wrestled the title from Inter, and last term they finished some 26 points off the pace as unbeaten Juventus clinched the scudetto.
This source puts Nani’s valuation at £23.8m and suggests that the Italian giants, who have greatly reduced spending of late, would prefer to finance the deal with a player exchange rather than fork out a large sum.

Ya, right! Man U are going to invest in Sneijder when they just got a young no.10 in Kagawa. Not to mention RVP which will prompt Rooney to play behind him. Both Kagawa and RVP have started very well, I don't think Sneijder is going to Man U anytime soon.

Inter took their chances well to beat a spirited 10-man Fiorentina and celebrate their first home win of the season.

The Nerazzurri were hoping to end the ‘San Siro curse’, but welcomed Fiorentina, who were arguably the form team in Serie A so far this season.

Wesley Sneijder, Rodrigo Palacio, Cristian Chivu, Dejan Stankovic and MacDonald Mariga were all on the treatment table, while the Viola missed Alberto Aquilani, Mounir El Hamdaoui and Francesco Della Rocca. Andrea Stramaccioni stuck with the new 3-5-2 system that was tested out midweek.

Fiorentina had lost their last 11 consecutive trips to the Meazza, scoring six goals and conceding 23.

Juan Cuadrado went on a mazy run after Romulo’s back-heel, but slightly over-hit the pass for Stevan Jovetic who had got in behind the defence.

Philippe Coutinho pounced on a poor clearance for a snapshot deflected just past the post, then from the corner a spectacular Esteban Cambiasso volley whistled wide when unmarked.

Inter pushed forward with Coutinho, whose cross was flapped away by Emiliano Viviano and as it continued Javier Zanetti’s flick was charged down by Gonzalo Rodriguez’s arm. Diego Milito took penalty duties and beat the goalkeeper to break the deadlock.

Milito thought he was going to celebrate another on the counter 60 seconds later when he hooked down Antonio Cassano’s pass over the top, but El Principe could only smack his ferocious shot against the crossbar.

Samir Handanovic palmed a deflected Adem Ljajic free kick round the near post, then Borja Valero was caught out to spark a very dangerous counter-attack, but Milito forced a fine save out of Viviano when sent clear by Cassano.

The Fiorentina defence was leaving big gaps and Inter took full advantage on another counter-attack. Cambiasso’s run pulled two defenders towards him, leaving Cassano acres of space down the left to slot in at the near post. FantAntonio celebrated by sucking his thumb after revealing this week that wife Carolina is expecting their second child.

Coutinho aimed another counter-attack straight at Viviano, but Fiorentina pulled one back before half-time with Romulo’s debut Serie A goal. David Pizarro was given too much time to amble forward and pick his pass for a precise Romulo header into the far bottom corner.

Moments later it was nearly 2-2, as Jovetic got to the by-line and pulled back for Ljajic, but Handanovic bravely dived at his feet to block from five yards.

Milito had the chance to restore the two-goal cushion too, but curled wide from the edge of the box from a Cassano assist.

Mati Fernandez replaced Ljajic for the second half and Fiorentina were fired up as Romulo drilled wide and they held possession, but their hopes of a comeback were hit hard when Gonzalo Rodriguez went into a needless sliding tackle on Yuto Nagatomo for his second yellow card.

Milito sprung the offside trap from a Cassano through ball, but Viviano got a hand to turn it wide from the tightest of angles. El Principe then forced another great Viviano reaction save from point-blank range.

A scuffle broke out from a set piece between substitute Luca Toni and Walter Gargano, but calm was quickly restored. Fiorentina continued to push despite playing with 10 men, but a few late free kicks could not break down the determined Nerazzurri.

But I'm not saying that Cambiasso needs to be benched for anyone of our current midfielders. If anyone of you remembers, this summer when some were happy with Gargano's arrival I said that this was a move to keep Cambiasso playing a little longer. We had 13M to spend and instead of investing them on a good midfielder, we bought a left full back...
I'm talking about finally getting someone who can be a first team regular in the middle and who can take Cambiasso's spot permanently...Paulinho hopefully.
P.S. I agree about Guarin. He's disappointing me recently and I can't stand his rugby shots..Jesus he tries them every time and always the same results..directly in the back parking of San Siro.

Best ever Cassano…

Antonio Cassano’s goal in Inter’s 2-1 win over Fiorentina on Sunday confirmed his best ever start to a season.

The 30-year-old moved to the Nerazzurri in the final week of the transfer window after requesting to leave Milan.

In six Serie A games so far this season, totalling just 400 minutes, the Italian international has scored four goals.

He had previously never been so prolific over the course of the first six League games of a Serie A campaign.

It's nice to see Obi back. He'll be needed. I would have given Cambiasso a rest though. I'm pretty sure he'll be playing the derby next sunday and we all know he's not good at handling so many games in a week. At least from that formation, it would seem that he'd be playing in defence...I can well see him end his career in defence. He'd be perfect in a 3-men line like ours.

Strama: 'Respect for Neftci'

Andrea Stramaccioni has urged a revamped Inter to show “respect for Neftci” in the Europa League and explained the change of tactics.

The Nerazzurri started Group H with a last-gasp 2-2 home draw against Rubin Kazan, so the pressure is on to get a result in Azerbaijan on Thursday.

“It is very important for us, because we were unable to win the first match. A victory tomorrow could see us go top,” said the Coach.

“I tried to study Neftci carefully, a team that so far has shown great solidity and four very dangerous forwards, especially for a side like ours. In the game against Partizan they were always threatening.”

Stramaccioni has rotated the squad ahead of this weekend’s Milan derby, leaving behind Diego Milito, Walter Samuel, Antonio Cassano and Javier Zanetti.

“It’s very simple, the players I left behind had taken part in five games over the last 10 days, so I wanted to provide a squad with the utmost sharpness and fitness. In order to do that, I have to make the most of the players at my disposal.

“However, I have immense respect for Neftci and they have an advantage over us, in that their first XI is well-drilled. I repeat, the players we left behind were not done so because we didn’t consider this match to be important, but rather due to fatigue.

“I also decided to rely on a team that has great motivation in a difficult away game for us. Will we use the three-man defence again? I am convinced that this is the ideal system to give these players the chance to express themselves.

“We tried to keep hold of Douglas Maicon until August 30 and obviously with him the four-man defence could’ve had a different degree of balance, but once he joined Manchester City then we had to make the most of the five centre-backs at our disposal.

“Tomorrow is going to be a difficult game, especially as among the Italian sides we have played more than anyone due to the preliminary rounds.

“This will be the first time we have truly tested out the strength in depth of our squad. We respect Neftci, but with the mentality of an Inter side that will step on to the field with heads held high looking for the victory.”

EL: Inter conquer Azerbaijan

Inter put the win under lock and key in the first half, conquering Neftci 3-1 in Azerbaijan to go top of Group H. As Rubin Kazan beat Partizan Belgrade 2-0 today, the Nerazzurri are the joint leaders on four points.

Esteban Cambiasso took a new role at the centre of a three-man defence in this trip to Azerbaijan, but Diego Milito, Antonio Cassano, Javier Zanetti and others were rested. Nefcti are the first side ever from this country to play in a UEFA club competition group phase.

Curiously, the Tofig Bahramov Republican Stadium in Baku was named after the Russian linesman who famously ruled England’s goal crossed the line in the 1966 World Cup Final against Germany.

Inter, wearing an all-red strip, broke the deadlock after 10 minutes with their first real chance. Fredy Guarin sprung the offside trap down the right and rolled across for Philippe Coutinho, who smartly flicked it in from six yards with his heel to surprise the defenders around him.

Cambiasso had to act quickly to clear when Nicolas Canales pounced on a poor Samir Handanovic pass.

Coutinho was flabbergasted when the referee waved play on, as his dummies had appeared to lure Mahir Shukurov into a penalty foul.

Neftci threatened as a Shukurov free kick bounced on the six-yard line in front of a static Handanovic, but Inter were fortunate Flavinho just failed to get the final touch at full stretch.

Joel Obi was booked for a tackle so high that he accidentally clipped Shukurov in the head, while a marvellous Coutinho curler whistled just wide.

The young Brazilian then chested down the ball to sprint past a defender, but the goalkeeper came tearing out to parry.

Obi scored the second in a similar move to the first goal, as again Guarin went down the right undisturbed and rolled across for Obi to side-foot home from the spot. The midfielder celebrated his debut Inter goal with backflips, but it was also the club’s 500th goal in UEFA competition.

Neftci were dangerous from set plays, as a free kick was pulled back to the D for Rashad Sadygov to blast just off target.

The Nerazzurri made it 3-0 before the break, as Guarin’s through ball was deflected by Bruno Bertucci into the path of Marko Livaja for a diving header into the empty net.

Neftci started strong for the second half and Samir Handanovic had to tip a long-range Bertucci strike out from under the bar, then from the corner Sadygov’s effort was deflected.

The pressure paid off and Neftci got one back, scoring the first goal Inter have conceded on their travels this season. Julius Wobay took on the defender with a dummy and his wayward angled drive turned into an assist for the unmarked Canales at the back post.

Alvaro Pereira forced a double save out of goalkeeper Sasa Stamenkovic, but Handanovic also had to smother from close range on a corner. Stamenkovic got down to push a Livaja low shot round the upright.

Stramaccioni needed a change, so Andrea Ranocchia took Cambiasso’s centre-back role, moving the Argentine to a position in front of the defence. That seemed to take the sting out of any Neftci comeback.

18-year-old youth team substitute Luca Garritano set up a great chance for a fourth, but Guarin’s cross-shot was off target and Handanovic turned a Bertucci free kick out for a corner.
