He wasn't on when Florenzi scored, certainly, but he made life easy for Florenzi in the final 30 minutes or so. It must be nice to be a fit youngster and have almost the whole paddock to yourself to gallop up and down in.

Handanovic back for Inter

Samir Handanovic and Rodrigo Palacio are back in action for Inter in their trip to Torino.

The goalkeeper is ready to make his Serie A debut for the club after recovering from a knee injury that he picked up in pre-season.

Palacio has shaken off a knock to be included in the squad for a Sunday evening visit to the Stadio Olimpico in Turin.

Ricky Alvarez is also back in the side following his summer spell on the treatment table.

Dejan Stankovic, Cristian Chivu, Joel Obi, MacDonald Mariga and Gaby Mudingayi are still sidelined.

Yes agreed Briz. Our central duo where quite impressive today. A nice move also from Strama to push Cambiasso back in defence to start the action from behind. We gained in construction and got their forwards tired to press against 3 men.
Guarin maybe needs to be rested a little more, even though he's our best midfielder. And I like Alvarez as a midfielder too. Had we got 2 good midfielders (Paulinho & a regista) together with another striker, we could have had a shot in this league. Too bad.

All well with Strama, says Sneijder

Wesley Sneijder insists that he has no problem with Inter boss Andrea Stramaccioni after being replaced in the game against Torino.

The Dutchman was visibly annoyed with the decision to take him off after 66 minutes in the 2-0 win over the Granata.

But, using his Twitter page today, the attacking midfielder wanted to underline that all is well within the Nerazzurri camp.

“Great victory yesterday!” he wrote. “Was a bit angry, because I want to play everything... Not because I have a problem with the Coach.

“But I know there are many games to play... Preparing for Thursday."

Antonio Cassano came on for the former Real Madrid man and he scored the second goal after Diego Milito bagged the first.

Inter are next in action in midweek when they will face Rubin Kazan in the Europa League.

Inter boss wants EL glory

Inter boss Andrea Stramaccioni has underlined that his club will be taking the Europa League seriously this term.

The Nerazzurri will entertain Rubin Kazan tomorrow night and he’s adamant that he won’t snub the competition, like many Italian sides have in the past, to focus fully on Serie A.

“It’s a different competition from the rest, especially given the day of the week that matches are played which is not the greatest,” he stated.

“Saying that, we’ll take to the pitch with the aim of winning all the games and getting as far as possible. We’re favourites? That’s normal as we are the top seeds…”

Rubin will be a tough test – “they are our strongest opponents in the group” – but also because neither Inter nor Milan have managed to win a home game this term.

“There is no connection between our inability to win at the Meazza and the new pitch,” Stramaccioni continued.

“Maybe Inter have maintained their focus better away from home. And to think that last year we won all our home games... Hopefully we'll set the record straight tomorrow.”

The former youth team boss also used today’s conference to explain why he got so angry with claims that his side played like a ‘provincial’ one at the weekend, with an alleged defensive mentality, against Torino.

“I have nothing against the word provinciale. It's part of Italian culture and it's also part of our footballing culture. That's not the issue here.

“It was the insinuation, the slant given to our 2-0 victory over Torino – the fact that we took to the field with one striker less, with an extra man in midfield and four full-backs.

“But Inter pressed high up the pitch, had 62 per cent ball possession, I replaced an attacking midfielder with a striker and we scored shortly before the final whistle.

“The problem was the premeditation, it was a comment made before kick-off. It seemed like more than just a technical comment. I will always defend Inter from such observations.”

Two of the team’s star players at the weekend were the centre-back partnership of Andrea Ranocchia and Juan Jesus.

“For me, Ranocchia is a certainty for Italian football. He was born in 1988 and is a defender with a high profile for our national side,” he added.

“Juan Jesus also did well in his first important game for us, but he also did well against Vaslui in the qualifying round when we went down to 10-men.”

Inter without Palacio for Rubin

Rodrigo Palacio has been left out of Inter’s squad for the Europa League game against Rubin Kazan on Thursday.

Boss Andrea Stramaccioni has opted to not risk the summer signing from Genoa because of an injury he picked up while on international duty with Argentina.

Also missing from the party are Cristian Chivu, Dejan Stankovic, Joel Obi, Gaby Mudingayi, Ricky Alvarez and Jonathan.

Reserve goalkeeper Luca Castellazzi is suspended.

Goalkeepers: 1 Handanovic, 27 Belec, 32 Cincilla.

Defenders: 4 Zanetti, 6 Silvestre, 23 Ranocchia, 25 Samuel, 40 Juan Jesus, 42 Jonathan, 44 Bianchetti, 55 Nagatomo.

Strama: Home record 'bothers us'

Andrea Stramaccioni apologised to fans after Inter began their Europa League campaign with a 2-2 draw at home to Rubin Kazan.

The Nerazzurri had to fight back from behind twice just to take a point from the Russians in the Group H curtain raiser, Marko Livaja and Yuto Nagatomo levelling after Aleksander Ryzantsev and Rondon netted for the visitors.

It's yet another poor home result for Strama's side, who have lost 2-0 to Hadjuk Split, drawn 2-2 with Vaslui and lost 3-1 to Roma in their three other fixtures at San Siro this season.

“Personally I'm sorry not to give the joy of victory,” the former Primavera Coach lamented in a Sky Sport Italia interview.

“Obviously it bothers us not to win at home. It seems like simplistic analysis, but we were punished by two episodes.

“Every game has its own story,” he continued. “We have always went behind early in games played at home this season, but I do not think our approach was wrong as we created several chances before they scored.”

In the other game in Group H Partizan and Neftci played out a scoreless draw.

Zanetti on San Siro taboo

Javier Zanetti insists that the current San Siro taboo will not become a mental problem for his Inter side.

Neither Inter not Milan have managed to win at the Stadio Meazza so far this season and the Nerazzzurri again failed on Thursday in the 2-2 draw with Rubin Kazan.

“It won't affect morale,” he stated when asked by Inter Channel about the problem. “It mustn't become a burden for us, but an added incentive.”

The Beneamata were confident of victory as they started their Europa League campaign, but they needed a late Yuto Nagatomo strike to avoid defeat.

“Rubin found space in the first half and made it difficult for us,” the captain added. “Then we were on top in the second period, but fell behind through carelessness.”

Strama: 'It's an ugly defeat'

Andrea Stramaccioni urges Inter to “stick together” after what he admits was an “ugly defeat” to Siena.

Remarkably, Inter and Milan have played eight games at San Siro since the new hybrid synthetic turf was laid and are still without a single victory.

Fans jeered and threw objects after this afternoon’s 2-0 result for the minnows.

“It’s an ugly defeat,” confessed the Coach. “Now we mustn’t lose faith in the work we are doing, as in the first half we created so many chances and were simply unable to find the goal.

“A defeat like this must not affect our work. In the second half, a scorching counter-attack from Siena hit us hard.

“This is the moment to stick together. I have great faith in the lads and we mustn’t back up even an inch.

“Today Inter created more scoring opportunities than Siena, but we do tend to struggle a little in the middle when our opponents go on the counter, as our full-backs tend to attack.

“Up until Simone Vergassola’s goal, Siena were only dangerous from corners. We are a new squad and it takes time to create the right balance.”

Stramaccioni adjusted his tactics and confirmed a three-man defence “is an idea. We’ll see when Cristian Chivu returns.

“We lost at home, so it’s only natural a small section of the crowd would jeer after the final whistle, but the curva cheered us on to the end.”
