I didn't really follow the Chiellini incident at the time, I just read that piece I linked above. He had a calf strain and was out for "three and five weeks", and for that Juventus received €420,000 in compensation from UEFA? Sorry, but I just think thats ridiculous. Its only a calf strain, it can happen anytime or while he was training. As I said, I can see some the logic in compensation if it were a serious injury – a leg break, ligament damage etc – and a player missed a season, but not for any old injury in which a player is out for three weeks. You'll have all sorts of cases with clubs demanding money for silly injuries and incidents with players who are from smaller countries in different regions of the world (say Piris playing for Paraguay or Asamoah playing for Ghana).

I remember reading a piece about Florenzi when he said he played his first game for Crotone last season at right-back because they were short. He done ok there, I think, but was soon moved into midfield. He also played at right-wing for one of the underage teams with us when he was very young, and it was Stramaccioni who first moved him into the centre. If Piris is out for fatigue or whatever (although he should be fine), I'd still rather see Taddei at right-back and one of Marquinho or Marquinhos at left-back rather than Florenzi, as they are more natural defenders.

I'm not sure I can see that 'o is a more natural defender than 'zi; that seems a slightly curious claim. 'os, sure, but then does he have the corsa or the technical quality to make something of the positions he might get into going forward?

As stefano intimates, football is a business; players are assets; there are questions of insurance, for instance, implicated in these things.

Marquinho has played full-back for Fluminense, and indeed for us under LE last season, and I was just thinking he has more understanding of the defensive aspect of the position compared with Florenzi. Florenzi has played there, sure, but I'd say he was probably selected in that position first off as he is more of a worker and full of energy who would never stop running. Marquinhos (or Marcos, as he's calling himself, which is probably easier to use) did played at full-back before for Corinthians, and so could be a more defensively sound choice.

I seen Bologna against Milan and they were very unlucky not to get something out of that game, and they threatened a lot down the left wing with Diamanti floating over to that side to whip in a few crosses. There's going to be so much emphasis on us to attack them and win at home that I'd just feel more comfortable having defenders who can defend and know there positions well at the back. On the other side, like you said, it could limit us going forward, but its a chance we'll may have to take.

I believe 'o has played rather more at wing-back in a back 5 than as a fullback; that's what my guys on the inside tell me, at any rate. As Maggio tends to show every time he ends up on the right of a back four for the Azzurri, the two roles are like cheesy chalk.

Yeh, more of a wing-back than a full-back. Still, you would imagine a player who has played a bit wing-back to have a better understanding of the role of a full-back than a young central-midfeilder who was asked to fill in there on one or two occasions, no? I love Florenzi, I hope he starts in midfield, but a full-back needs to be play as part of the back-four, part of the unit, be aware of the defensive organisation, when to move up and play offside, when to come inside as cover for his centre-halfs. Florenzi may well be able to do that, but Marquinho should be able to do it better.

De Rossi, Dodo, Bradley and Balzaretti , and Osvaldo is suspended, of course. Castan also picked up a knock to his right knee in training but should be ok. Balzaretti has resumed light training on the field and is making good process. Expected midfield trio of Pjanic, Tachtsidis and Florenzi. Marquinho is also pushing for a start, possibly at expense of Pjanic. Lamela or Lopez to start in Osvaldo's absence.

On Pjanic, DCG will enjoy this piece. Despite his undoubted quality, he still remains a "tactical dilemma" for Zeman, not knowing his best position. Trequartista, esterno or interno di centrocampo? Against Catania we seen him getting too close to Totti, and Marquinho may be preferred in the midfield against Bologna. Indeed, a few people agree:

"Miralem does not have the pace, nor is the type of Tommasi or Di Francesco, and tends to centralise. He will never be the typical kind of midfielder for Zeman." - Balbo.

(Leggo – F.Balzani) Trequartista, esterno o interno di centrocampo? Il dilemma tattico intorno a Pjanic è tutt’altro che risolto. Anzi, con Zeman è diventato quasi un equivoco. Il 22enne ex-Lione, per il quale la Roma a luglio rifiutò un’offerta di 25 milioni dal Barcellona, potrebbe finire in panchina anche nella gara di domenica contro il Bologna e fare spazio al trio di centrocampo che ha sbancato San Siro, quello formato da Florenzi, Tachtsidis e Marquinho.
Zeman, infatti, non ha ancora trovato una collocazione ideale per il bosniaco che contro il Catania, nella posizione di interno a sinistra, si è pestato i piedi con Totti come ha ammesso lo stesso capitano giallorosso nel dopo gara all’Olimpico. L’equivoco ha scatenato una discussione (già andata in scena lo scorso anno con Luis Enrique) sulla posizione di Pjanic nel 4-3-3. «Miralem non ha il passo, non ha la corsa di Tommasi o di Di Francesco e tende ad accentrarsi – ha sentenziato Balbo – Non sarà mai quel tipo di centrocampista, quello tipico di Zeman». Petruzzi gli fa eco: «Florenzi e Marquinho mi sembrano più adatti per il gioco di Zeman, per Pjanic sarà dura restare titolare».
Ma i problemi non sono solo di carattere tattico. A Milano, infatti, Pjanic soffriva per un risentimento muscolare che non gli ha comunque impedito di rispondere presente alla convocazione della sua nazionale nonostante il parere sfavorevole della Roma (ignorato ancora una volta dalla Federacalcio bosniaca). «Non sento dolore, posso giocare», ha rassicurato il bosniaco impiegato sia contro il Liechtenstein che contro la Lettonia ieri sera (segnando anche un gol). Una dichiarazione simile a quella rilasciata a febbraio scorso quando Pjanic giocò 80’ contro il Brasile aggravando l’infiammazione al retto femorale che lo costrinse a saltare le successive 4 giornate di campionato. Miralem rientrerà giovedì e la sensazione a Trigoria è che sarà rispedito nuovamente in panchina contro il Bologna ufficialmente per non rischiare una ricaduta. Intanto Real e Barça sono pronti a tornare alla carica per il centrocampista che non intende cambiare aria. Almeno per ora.

I wonder if Pjanic should not just become the left-forward lieutenant to Totti. While he's not your standard forward, neither is Totti's interpretation of the role. I wonder if we shouldn't have paid more attention to Spurs alleged flirtation with Pjanic.

Also, Pjanic has come out and said that he was available to play against Milan and that it wasn't an issue of injury.

Well Barca supposedly made an offer of €25m for him in the mercato, that was a nice sum. I do feel he has the potential to go on be a really great player – the next Modric in a sense, whereby he could command a figure of €30-40m. A lot of people would have taken his sale in the wrong way, though – a club who takes a punt on these promising young players and then sells them on once a good offer comes in (much like how David says he thinks we could become a "selling club"), rather than simply selling him because he doesn't fit with Zeman, ala Borini. I wouldn't entertain the notion of selling him myself, nor I think would Zeman, not at this stage, he has to much ability about him, and I just think it may take some time for him to find his place in this midfield. Maro also made the good point that he needs to 'undo' the work done under LE and adapt to Zeman's way.

I read the Article but i don't believe it. First off I think we would sell him at that amount. Secondly, Thiago Alcantara and Cesc can't even get on the pitch while they have no central defense and are struggling with the FFP rulings. I discount that completely.

I also don't put much credence into the the whole undoing for DDR and Pjanic. They played like that from day 1 for LE and both had abbreviated offseason for injury and PJanic being bought VERY late. Now i'm supposed to believe that they've been so indoctrinated in 1 year of Tikki Takka that despite having much more time in the offseason to "learn" they can't interpret it?

They are both players who's playing "speed" and style don't match with Zemanlandia as well as they did Enriqlandia. Not that both aren't filled with class or that they can't improve in the system. But i'll guess Zeman will do more tactically to fit those two for their immense skill.

But i never see Pjanic and Totti existing on that left side and getting the best of both.

I always felt that journalists took themselves far too serious with the integrity and impartiality bit but now i see what a slippery slope it was.

Cominciamo ad essere seriamente preoccupati circa il futuro di Zdenek Zeman e della Roma. Preoccupati perché l'allenatore dimostra di non aver fatto tesoro della lezione di cui restò vittima alla fine degli anni Novanta, quando fu costretto a lasciare la panchina giallorossa per ragioni extracalcistiche. Tredici anni fa Zeman finì con l'affogare nel mare del doping, gettato in acqua con un macigno al piede costruito dal Palazzo (Federcalcio, Coni, Juventus, ecc.), oggi sembra ostinarsi a cercare nuovi pretesti per essere crocifisso.
Caro Mister, ci lasci dire che l'ultima polemica velenosa contro il presidente della Federcalcio, Giancarlo Abete, poteva risparmiarsela. Zeman fa finta di non capire che chi lo intervista, a cominciare dai giornalisti dei settimanali, sono solo alla ricerca della frase ad effetto. E' stato così qualche settimana fa quando è caduto nella trappola della squalifica comminata ad Antonio Conte (cui seguirono le risposte assai velenose di Marotta, John Elkann e Andrea Agnelli), sarà così per la frase velenosa contro Abete ("Non è mio nemico, lui è nemico del calcio").

Caro Mister, ribadiamo quanto scritto qualche tempo fa: a noi del signor Conte e del dottor Abete non ce ne frega ssolutamente nulla! Ci perdoni la franchezza, ma sappia che la stragrande maggioranza dei tifosi romanisti quando si parla di abete al massimo pensa all'albero di Natale. Che ci sia qualcuno in via Allegri che risponda a quel nome e che addirittura abbia in mano le redini del calcio italiano è circostanza insignificante.

Caro Mister, su molti social network proprio i tifosi si sono dissociati da questa ennesima scintilla. Giustamente temono che le parole del tecnico facciano scoppiare l'ennesimo incendio, vanificando ciò che di buono la squadra ha cominciato a far vedere sul campo. E ricordi, caro Mister, che se contro il Bologna dovesse essere fischiato qualcosa contro la Roma, tutti penseranno ad una vendetta del Palazzo, cioè di quell'albero di Natale ai più sconosciuto.

Caro Mister, non è avvelenando i pozzi che si fa il bene del calcio. E poi, prima di pensare a guarire l'intero ospedale, cominciamo a pensare al paziente che ha in cura e che lo ha richiamato al suo capezzale dopo 13 anni. Pensi soltanto a lui, cioè alla Roma. Il giorno dopo la scomparsa della speaker continuano i messaggi di cordoglio degli ascoltatori che insieme ai tifosi sono gli autori della scritta. "Lasciate qui i vostri fiori per Francesca"


Si cerca di tornare alla normalità, anche se il dolore è ancora troppo grande. Nelle varie trasmissioni radiofoniche si parla della Roma ma al centralino di Centro Suono Sport, l'emittente dove ha lavorato per molti anni, continuano ad arrivare sms e telefonate dedicate a lei. Sotto la sede, in via Salvatore Talamo all'angolo con via Pisino, zona Prenestina, questa mattina poi è comparso uno striscione: "Francesca Bonfanti nel cuore giallorosso di tutti quanti", firmato i tifosi romanisti tra cui molti ascoltatori della speaker e giornalista che l'altra notte ha deciso togliersi la vita a 41 anni, nel giorno del suo compleanno, lanciandosi nel vuoto dal ponte in via Casilina al Mandrione, vicino alla sua casa.

Il giorno dopo la scomparsa di Francesca Bonfanti, l'etere romano continua a piangerla. I ricordi sono racchiusi nei messaggi inviati alla radio attraverso la quale lei, per anni, con la sua voce brillante e la sua ironia, ha fatto sorridere migliaia di persone al timore della trasmissione satirica "State bene così". Gli ascoltatori sentono la sua mancanza. Così hanno voluto dedicarle un grande striscione che occupa tutto il muro sotto l'emittente. "Chi vuole ricordare Francesca - spiegano gli autori della scritta - possono lasciare qui il loro mazzo di fiori, invece che portarlo dove è avvenuto il suicidio. Crediamo
che questo sia il posto migliore, sotto la radio dove lei ha dato tanto".

Qualche mazzo di fiori già è stato lasciato. La morte della Bonfanti ha scosso la città. Messaggi di cordoglio sono arrivati anche dall'As Roma attraverso il suo sito ufficiale e dal direttore sportivo giallorosso, Walter Sabatini, durante una conferenza stampa a Trigoria, oltre ad alcuni personaggi del mondo dello spettacolo come Paolo Bonolis che nel 2005 la volle per l'edizione del festival di Sanremo come voce 'fuori campo'.

I think it's disrespectful to the people who pay you. Baldini has expressed his feelings about these types of remarks. If i were Baldini i'd tell him he's welcome to his opinions, but if he feels so strongly about it he should quit and do them when not representing Roma. I take umbrage with SAF for the same thing. You don't need to comment on everything and it's beginning to border on megalomania.

If i were Baldini i'd set him up an interview in which he can answer every question posed. I'd tell him to say everything he has to say, then instruct him to no longer answer question not relating directly to Roma.

As i said, SAF and even JoMo do this type of thing. But at least they have the trophy cabinet. Winning Serie B is not the same thing.
