Sooooooooooooooooa............ anyone see our game the weekend??????????????
Does no one have any comments about it? You were all so busy using the Shitbox no one posted about it here, huh? No one have any thoughts?
Feck sake. I thought we woz bleedin deadly, Totti is good he is, his back flick for the 17th goal was savage. Although I'd still release him and sign Messi.
Initial results saying DDR hamstring not as bad as first feared, only out for two weeks, hopefully back for Rube. Any other man woulda been out for three months.
I understand De Rossi is a loyal guy and wanted to be there for the azzurri. But for fucks sake, he left the Inter match in pain, he was still limping at the end of that match, but he plays for Italy in less than a week. I wonder if he was cleared to play or whether he ignored the advice of his doctors regardless.
Civis Romanus sum _____ http://www.liceogiuliocesare.it
I'm sure he was cleared to play. He had recovered enough after his ankle injury to take part in the Azzurri's training before the Bulgaria game, and so was able to play. It wasn't ideal in that he probably didnt have the regular preparation of training in the build up to that game, but what can you do. He wanted to play and he played, and he suffered a muscle/hamstring strain presumably because he wasn't it peek condition. Its a risk, but personally I have no problems with players who get injured while on international duty. A lot of people moan and complain about it (and indeed, look for compensation, for Chiellini's injury – I wonder will we get that?), but I think thats bollocks. A man is selected to play for his country and that in itself is an honour, and if he gets injured well than thats just the way it is, he could get injured in training or playing for us or for his country, it makes no difference.
I agree with you Ed. The fact Juve are getting compensated for Chiellini is nice from a Juve financial standpoint, but i think its bullshit. If Chiellini was worried about injury, then he would have refused the call-up
of our last signing in the mercato, Mauro Goicoechea, this morning. Seems like a shy lad. Says his best quality is to play with his feet.
They're over 50,000 so far for the Bologna game the weekend. Zemanlandia continues for now. Colly, shall you be in attendance?
Gazzetta has today printed its annual report on the wages of Serie A clubs. Here's a pic of ours:
We're are with €95m in total, behind Milan, Rube and Inter. Aside from DDR's and Totti's wage, we're not too bad really (and thats not to say DDR and Totti don't deserve that, they do of course). I wonder, we don't still have that imaginary 'salary cap' – used only when it suited certain purposes – in place at the club, do we? Look at poor young Florenzi, only on €30k a year, even Colly makes more than that, i think he's deserving of a new deal.
they should have some kind of 'insurance' deal going on for players and international call-ups. because the federations can't be expected to cough up so much cash for every injury.
I don't buy into this idea of clubs getting financial compensation at all. A player who is good enough with naturally play for his club and for his country, if he is fortunate enough, that is simply the way of things. Players may be 'employees' of the clubs, as such, in that they pay their wages, but international football and playing for your country has always been a given, and a honour for the player to do. If he gets injured during a match for his country, then tough, he could just as easily get injured while playing for the club, while training for either, while going for a jog, or getting out of bed in the morning. I can see some logic in financial compensation if it were an injury sustained on international duty were a player were injured for a long period, like an entire season as what happened with that Robben and Bayern case, and then some deal could be worked out (like paying 50% of his wages). Other than that where do you draw the line, you'll have all sorts of silly cases like this Chiellini one with clubs arguing that a certain player got injured for a few weeks or months.

Destro just scored for Italia, a nice through ball from Marchiso and a perfectly timed run from Destro and he poked it home. Osvaldo is also playing. Pjanic has also scored for Bosnia. Stek also reclaimed his position in goal for Holland.

Giuseppe Giannini: Roma Can Aim For Champions League / 1 Sep 2012 / By Anthony Wright
Former Roma captain Giuseppe Giannini has reflected on Roma's start to the season and the 'ItalRoma' partnership of Pablo Osvaldo and Mattia Destro, and believes the future is bright for the Giallorossi. Osvaldo and Destro lined up for Italy against Malta on Tuesday, and Giannini is glad to see Italy coach Cesare Prandelli taking a chance on the former Siena forward.
"Destro absolutely deserves this chance, Prandelli and his staff have been following him for some time", Giannini told tuttomercatoweb.
"He has great ability and a guaranteed future. Osvaldo has been playing at very high levels and I believe that he can form a well-matched partnership with Destro. Prandelli will therefore help Roma as well because the two haven't played many games together and they have the chance to improve their understanding.
"Many national team coaches would have made different choices, but Prandelli is showing courage in relying on many youngster with a view to the World Cup. Others have already had their chance and there are still other [young players] on the bench".
Giannini then turned his attentions to Roma, who he believes shone against Inter and will be able to challenge Juventus and Napoli for the Champions League spots.
"They played badly against Catania, but I saw them play very well against Inter. I was finally able to admire good movement, typical of Zeman's style, but it's clear that a lot of work is still needed. However the team is on a good path.
"I believe the victory was well deserved - the faults of Inter have been focused on a lot, but in my opinion there were only great merits from the Giallorossi. I think the team can aim for the top three positions. In no particular order, Napoli, Juventus and Roma will compete for them.
"Zeman's team can certainly aim for the Champions League, but there are many teams on their backs including the Milanese teams who have revolutionised their squads so much".
Clubs aren't really "supplying" players to FIFA and UEFA, now, Red, c'mon like, its not that simple. Its a players choice to play for his country, and for most players country comes before club. A club should not have any right to prevent a player from playing his country or look for compensation or benefit for 'allowing' a player to do so.
I'm not trying to stop international football or say that major changes need to be made.
I do, however, think it's absolutely appropriate for compensation to be paid for a player being out due to an injury sustained playing for his country.
And I'm not even getting into the area of suggesting compensation for the team performance suffering, and the loss of income that causes, as a result of a player's injury.
Given how much money FIFA and UEFA make, do you really think it's unfair for UEFA to pay Chiellini's wages for the period he was injured?
Alternatively, if you go down the road of it being the choice of the player to play for his national team, perhaps it would be better for the club to refuse to pay him for the duration of an injury sustained while he was choosing to play for his country?
I think the current system is a decent compromise.
i think edzo's argument is based more on his romanticized version of football morality. there really is no logical explanation for countries not being held responsible for player injuries.
