Milan’s proposed swoop for Nigel De Jong is on hold as discussions with Manchester City regarding a fee continue.

The Dutchman is being targeted by the Rossoneri given that boss Massimiliano Allegri has asked for a new midfielder following the loss of Mark Van Bommel.

The latter was a stable figure in the plans of Allegri before he opted to return to PSV when his contract expired in June.

Reports on Thursday suggest that the Diavolo have offered €4m for De Jong, but Roberto Mancini’s club are asking for €8m.

Talks will continue for the 27-year-old in a bid to do a deal before the transfer window closes on Friday evening.

De Jong is a good signing, alright, he is a very tough defensive player. Word has it he's in Milano to sign his contract with Milan.

we shouldn't be too bad [eventually]. allegri just has to reshuffle his pack after trying montolivo as the central midfielder for most of the summer.

for our 4 midfield spots, the top 5 choices should be nocerino, montolivo, de jong, constant and [unfortunately] boateng. i think that after montolivo, constant is the only player in our midfield who is capable of playing with the ball. it's a shame that he's being mentioned as the back-up for antonini at LB.

and we need to bring zapata to match-fitness really fast, he's the most gifted central defender we have and he needs to be in the starting line-up, and hopefully acerbi turns out to be the real deal.

Thought Milan's shape was better last night than it was last season.

Back to playing what I consider to be a proper diamond, with the midfield three mainly staying behind the ball and relying on the fullbacks for width.

Far better to play that way than the horrible stuff Milan did last season with the fullbacks not getting very high and the midfielders all piling forward into the box to force goals.

That said, Milan still weren't any good and were pretty fotunate to win the game.

And teams should really think about man-marking Diamanti this season.
