Andrea Stramaccioni's eyes expressed that same determination that Javier Zanetti spoke about after the match. Speaking to Sky Sport Italia he commented on the 2-2 draw with Vaslui, making a comparison with the first home game of the Europa League that Inter played against Hajduk Split.

"I think they were two different matches; against Hajduk we had really taken the wrong approach and the opponents created opportunities. Today Inter didn't play thirty sparkling minutes as we have in other matches, but we hit the crossbar and cut out other clear chances. Then of course the penalty changed everything, but I choose to see the glass half full because over sixty minutes we showed something important. We showed we didn't want to simply content ourselves and that we wanted to qualify at all costs."

The Nerazzurri coach continued: "And then from a tactical point of view the red card changed the match, but we never lost our ability to counter. Vaslui never seemed dangerous to me, while we never lost our strength to hit them on the break."

Stramaccioni spoke on how a player like Fredy Guarin can change a game on his own: "With all due respect for my ‘toro' I don't think he changed the game on his own. In the first half I had put together a midfield with players that I had asked for sacrifice from, like Nagatomo and Zanetti. Guarin is definitely an important midfielder, but I think that with him Inter found balance above all."

In Croatia against Hajduk, away to Pescara and in Romania against Vaslui, "none of the three victories we earned were won on the counterattack. One of the problems we had today was that we almost never managed to beat our opponents on the dribble. We need to keep in mind that going down to ten men also changed the tactics of the match, and I think that paradoxically Vaslui packed it in at the back when Inter had a numerical inferiority," explained Stramaccioni.

There was no finger pointing at Luca Castellazzi by the Inter coach: "He was convinced he would take the ball when he made the challenge, and Antal did a good job. Right now I'm not interested in making judgements on individuals. We can say that it was a collective error since those are distractions that you pay for. I can see that without the ball we're much more secure than we were before. I can also see a lot of desire and fighting spirit, and that goes for the fans as well. I think the right spirit is there to turn the page."

After commenting on how yesterday's match might have an effect on this weekend's Serie A clash with Roma ("I'll tell you on Sunday at 11 pm"), Stramaccioni smiled when shown images of president Moratti celebrating in the stands after Guarin's equaliser. He quipped: "So the president is tired too. Joking aside, this is a good moment for us, we're all close together, we're very determined but we have to keep improving. We know it's not all going to be downhill. We have a massive game on Sunday - not decisive but very important."

Inter boss on Europa League draw

Inter boss Andrea Stramaccioni isn’t that happy with the outcome of today’s Europa League draw. “There will be a lot of travelling.”

The Nerazzurri have been placed in Group H alongside Rubin Kazan of Russia, Serbia’s Partizan and Azerbaijani outfit Neftci.

“It was an unfortunate draw for us in terms of logistics,” the tactician told the Nerazzurri website on Friday afternoon.

“We'll be faced with some uncomfortable away trips that risk having a knock-on effect for our following Serie A games.

“But that’s one of the perils of the Europa League and we knew it.”

The Beneamata progressed into the competition proper last night and the former Roma youth Coach is eager for the club to leave its mark.

“As far as the football is concerned, this is where the competition really starts,” he added. “Our aim is to qualify for the knock-out stage.”

La notizia è di una settimana fa: l'Inter si è assicurata le prestazioni di Patrick Olsen, centrocampista difensivo danese classe 1994. Olsen è uno dei gioielli del calcio internazionale a livello giovanile. Adocchiato da molti top club, soprattutto tedeschi e inglesi, Olsen ha scelto la società nerazzurra "perché è una delle migliori nel saper lavorare con i giovani". Strama: 'Zeman's like my father'

“Zdenek Zeman was coaching before I was born,” but Andrea Stramaccioni but warns Inter want to beat his former club Roma tomorrow evening.

The Coach, nicknamed ‘the Italian Andre Villas Boas,’ made his career as youth team tactician at his hometown club from 2005 to 2011.

“Am I looking for some sort of revenge? No, zero,” assured Strama in his Press conference. Click here for a match preview.

“If I am at Inter, then I owe it to the six years I spent at Roma. That is the truth. I will always thank the Giallorossi, as I became a professional at Trigoria.

“I was thrown into the mix early and am learning many things by experiencing them. Obviously I lack experience, but I am trying to absorb information at the speed of light from all sources.

“Zeman is the same age as my father, he was already training before I was born and remains a great Coach. For a young tactician like me, he set the bar for a certain way to play football and I admire him a great deal. We will try to win the game, as always, but Zeman is inimitable.

“In any case, tomorrow we are taking on Roma and not just Zeman. It’ll be an important test aside from the opposition, as for the first time this season we are welcoming a top team to San Siro. We have the utmost respect for Roma, but we are Inter and we want to win regardless.”

The Nerazzurri got through to the Europa League this week, but mainly thanks to their away record, having scraped a 2-0 home defeat to Hajduk Split and last-gasp 2-2 draw with Vaslui.

“It was wonderful to see the fans so understanding of the situation when we were in a moment of difficulty. Once we went down to 10 men after half an hour, it was looking bad and the crowd gave us incredible strength. It almost seemed as if the fans were winning back the ball for us. It’s a good sign and we’ve got to keep that going.”

Inter have revamped over the summer with the likes of Rodrigo Palacio, Antonio Cassano and Alvaro Pereira.

Injured for tomorrow night’s game are Samir Handanovic, Dejan Stankovic, Ricky Alvarez, Joel Obi and MacDonald Mariga.

“We had an intelligent transfer strategy,” continued Stramaccioni. “We set the foundations for an Inter that wants to become great again, all within a smart financial structure, seeing as we cut €40m from our wage bill.

“Juventus have more certainties this season, whereas we are at the start of a journey. Tomorrow represents an important test, but it is still too early to say whether the result would make us Scudetto contenders or rule us out of the race completely.

“We need to seek consistency, as we have changed more than any of the other teams.”

A thrilling Roma ran riot at San Siro, inspired by Francesco Totti to beat Inter 3-1 in a hugely entertaining encounter.

This was a huge battle between teams who have radically changed over the summer, while Andrea Stramaccioni faced his mentor and club where he made his career as Coach of the youth academy. Mattia Destro returned from suspension to make his Serie A debut for Roma against his former club, though Michael Bradley and Dodo were still absent. Inter scraped through to the Europa League with a last-gasp 2-2 draw against Vaslui on Thursday and missed the injured Samir Handanovic, Cristian Chivu, Dejan Stankovic, Ricky Alvarez, Joel Obi, MacDonald Mariga and Gaby Mudingayi.

Alvaro Pereira was thrown straight into the starting XI, while Roma gave Panagiotis Tachtsidis his debut.

Roma dominated possession early on and took a deserved lead after 15 minutes. Francesco Totti chipped up a cross from the left and Alessandro Florenzi was totally unmarked from the penalty spot for a perfect looping header into the far bottom corner. It was his first Serie A start.

Just seconds later it was almost 1-1, but Maarten Stekelenburg timed his intervention well to stop Diego Milito when clear on goal.

Milito was furious, claiming Federico Balzaretti had pulled his shirt as he tried to nod in a cross, but the referee waved play on.

Daniele De Rossi picked up a knock to his foot and tried to play on, but eventually had to limp off for Marquinho.

Yuto Nagatomo cut in past Ivan Piris and turned wide, while Nicolas Burdisso used his body to charge down a Milito solo effort and a well-timed Balzaretti tackle stopped Antonio Cassano.

Wesley Sneijder’s free kick was comfortably plucked out of the air, but in first half stoppages Inter got an equaliser.

Cassano netted against his old club with his first goal for the Nerazzurri, taking down a Sneijder pass and turning Leandro Castan, but the shot took a massive deflection off Burdisso to loop into the air over a helpless Stekelenburg.

After the restart Osvaldo sprung the offside trap on to fire over the bar, then Destro skipped past Nagatomo to roll across for Totti, but Osvaldo dived in first and the chance went begging.

Balzaretti also went off with an injury, then Burdisso needed a great sliding tackle to block Milito and Fredy Guarin’s long-range effort tested Stekelenburg.

Roma restored their advantage on 67 minutes with a classic counter-attack. Osvaldo sprung the offside trap on a Totti through ball and the Italian-Argentine immediately chipped the on-rushing Luca Castellazzi into an empty net.

It was wide open, as a Matias Silvestre clearance fell to the totally unmarked Florenzi, who this time let the nerves get to him and completely mis-hit the half-volley. Marquinho also surprised the defence, but couldn’t get his head to a dangerous cross.

Roma were pouring forward with numerous scoring opportunities and finally converted one, as Marquinho ran on to an Osvaldo chipped cross and squeezed the finish in from practically the by-line, an implausibly tight angle.

Osvaldo was sent off in stoppages for a second yellow card when using his hands to parry the ball, but appeared to be protecting his face.

'Cassano-Milito doesn't work'

Inter legend Sandro Mazzola has warned “it’s evident” the new strike partnership of Antonio Cassano and Diego Milito won’t work.

The pair started together in Sunday’s 3-1 home defeat to Roma and Mazzola was unimpressed.

“It’s evident Cassano cannot play alongside Milito, yet keeping him as a reserve would be an insult to football. We’ll see what happens at the end of the season,” he told Radio Incontro.

“Inter suffered with the way Roma played. The Giallorossi have started well, just as Zdenek Zeman’s teams often do.

“Andrea Stramaccioni is doing well on the Inter bench, but we have to give the team time to get results.”

Solidarietà al compagno Bobone. Povero Vieri, che si infortunava di continuo e parcheggiava male il Cayenne perché un’impiegato della Telecom trascriveva i numeri telefonici chiamati dall’allora attaccante dell’Inter. Fuori dallo scherzo, perché nessuno può pensare (ma crediamo che i commenti a questo post ci faranno sognare) che uno si infortuni di continuo perché turbato da un pedinamento di cui in quel momento non è a conoscenza, la recente sentenza, che ha condannato in solido Inter e Telecom a risarcire Vieri con un milione di euro (contro i 21 complessivamente richiesti) per avere in maniera illegale violato la privacy del giocatore nel periodo fra il 2000 e il 2004, ha segnato una tacca a favore della giustizia italiana. L’Inter oltre a un danno finanziario minimo (ne ha creato una maggiore la strampalata gestione delle partenze di Julio Cesar e Maicon) e uno sportivo nullo, ne ha avuto uno di immagine notevole visto tutto quello che è stato messo in piedi per acquisire informazioni che avrebbe potuto fornirgli addirittura anche un giornalista. Siamo d’accordo con la sentenza (le sentenze si possono commentare) perché se è lecito raccogliere informazioni su una persona con cui devi lavorare (lo fanno tutti) non lo è affidare l’incarico a un’agenzia investigativa (Tavaroli, per semplificare) che usa metodi illeciti. Insomma, il fatto che l’Inter abbia in qualche modo compiuto questa operazione per interposta azienda, attraverso l’allora vicepresidente Buora e i buoni rapporti con Telecom (in quegli anni presidente era Tronchetti Provera), non è certo un’attenuante. Anzi. La cifra è qualcosa in più che simbolica, Vieri magari ci comprerà qualche altro appartamento a Monte Carlo (e farà bene, sempre meglio che fare lo stlista), ma ben lontana da quella ‘americana’ chiesta dalla parte offesa. Poi c’è sempre la dimensione del ridicolo. Perché in questo caso l’Inter non si stava occupando di Moggi e dintorni, ma dei comportamenti privati di uno dei personaggi più noti d’Italia. In altre parole, qualunque buttafuori di discoteca milanese, stellina televisiva o personaggio da happy hour avrebbe potuto essere più preciso di Telecom circa spostamenti e frequentazioni di quello che nonostante tutto è stato uno dei più grandi attaccanti di sempre (nove gol ai Mondiali, fra l’altro, record che condivide con Paolo Rossi e Roberto Baggio). Dubitiamo che il club volesse conoscere il nome dell’ultima fidanzata, comunque. Forse cercava dell’altro: non lo sappiamo e non lo sapremo mai. Di sicuro non l’ha trovato. Notevole anche la richiesta, con possibilità di essere accolta sotto lo zero, di revocare lo scudetto interista 2005-2006 che l’avvocato di Vieri spera di tenere ancora viva, vista la decisione di trasmettere questa sentenza alla procura federale. Vieri era turbato fino al 2004 e vorrebbe togliere all’Inter lo scudetto di anni dopo invece di quelli vinti con lui al centro del’attacco (zero, ma non per colpa sua: l’Inter di quegli anni era ben diversa da quelle di Mancini e Mourinho, assomigliava piuttosto a quella attuale)? La domanda sorge spontanea, alla Lubrano: cosa può importare a Vieri dello scudetto 2005-06?

Espanyol move right for Longo

Samuele Longo insists the decision to accept a loan switch to Espanyol from Inter was the best move for himself and the Italian club.

The Under-21 international is rated as a future star and impressed in pre-season for the Beneamata after he was signed outright from Genoa.

But, despite the sale of Giampaolo Pazzini, it was decided that the former Primavera ace would be sent to Spain.

“I left Inter to gain experience and I wanted to play with a certain amount of consistency,” the forward told FC Inter News.

“It was all agreed in a calm manner, in total agreement with Inter and with my agent.

“I had a good summer at Inter and fitted in well alongside some excellent teammates under a great Coach, then, at the end of August, a different decision was made.

“I think it was the right choice.”

Longo, still just 20, scored on his Espanyol debut.

The Beneamata also sent Philippe Coutinho to the Barcelona-based club for part of last season before recalling him during the summer.
