Your reasoning behind leaving DDR in front of the back 4 is sound. But based on what you know of Zeman does that sound like his way of thinking?

Can you hear him saying, "I'm going to leave DDR as cover for my back four to the detriment of my movement going forward."

I don't worry so much about that. I am far more concerned with Totti and Pjanic and their positioning...

It's not a question of boldness; it's that, from what I've seen and read, Tachtsidis is viewed as an out-and-out holding midfielder, without, really, the qualities to play much wrong side of the ball. Of course, he played as a trequartista when he was younger, but then so did Pizza and Pirlo.

Although it adds that Tachtsidis is an alternative, although, like Maro said, he's best deployed as a regista, in a central position, with De Rossi as mezz'ala. But it adds that Florenzi is ahead.

(Corriere dello Sport) E’ il settore del campo che da sempre conta più degli altri. Dalla linea mediana spesso e volentieri dipendono gli esiti delle partite. E per il 4-3-3 targato Zeman, quindi Roma, il centrocampo è praticamente fondamentale. Il punto di partenza è dato dalla prova fornita dal trio Bradley-De Rossi-Pjanic contro il Catania, alla prima partita ufficiale della nuova stagione: una prova tutt’altro che brillante. Domenica sera la Roma sarà di scena in casa dell’Inter: la cerniera centrale nerazzurra è una delle più forti d’Italia, con tre giocatori del calibro di Guarin, Gargano e Cambiasso. Ovvio che serviranno «ritmo e aggressività», per dirla con il tecnico boemo, ben diverse da quella viste all’Olimpico. Il rischio, altrimenti, è quello di finire nella morsa del centrocampo nerazzurro.

OUT - Ci sarà senza dubbio una novità. Perché Bradley proprio alla prima di campionato si è procurato «una lesione muscolare tra il primo e il secondo grado al retto femorale destro», evidenziata ieri dagli esami strumentali svolti nella struttura universitaria del Campus BioMedico, a un passo da Trigoria. Almeno tre settimane di stop per lo statunitense, che sarà visitato di nuovo tra un paio di giorni e che per il momento andrà avanti soltanto tra sedute fisioterapiche ed esercizi di palestra specifici, senza andare a toccare la parte infortunata. Bradley proverà a rimettersi a disposizione di Zeman per Roma-Bologna, terza di campionato in programma dopo la sosta per le nazionali, nel week end del 16 settembre. Esclusa la possibilità che l’ex Chievo possa mettersi in viaggio per giocare il doppio test di qualificazione al Mondiale contro la Giamaica, tra il 7 e l’11 settembre.

SOLUZIONI – In netto vantaggio per la sua sostituzione c’è Alessandro Florenzi, frutto del vivaio giallorosso che la Roma ha in pratica riacquistato dopo un anno di prestito trascorso al Crotone. Florenzi ha svolto benissimo tutte le fasi dei ritiri estivi entrando in sintonia con compagni, allenatore e società. Stupisce la sua voglia di non mollare mai. Ecco perché nel momento del bisogno, nel ruolo di intermedio destro, Florenzi è una validissima alternativa. L’altra soluzione a disposizione di Zeman è l’inserimento di un altro giovane, il greco Tachtsidis, che però dà il meglio di sé impiegato da regista, in posizione centrale: a quel punto De Rossi potrebbe giocare come in Nazionale, da mezz’ala. Ma Florenzi è in vantaggio: difficile che Zeman, che probabilmente ritoccherà anche l’attacco (rientra Destro dalla squalifica), stravolga del tutto la Roma che aveva scelto per il Catania. Una squadra che dovrà cambiare ritmo, soprattutto a centrocampo.

There is a bit too much parsing of MFers. Let's put it simply. Based on what ZZ has said and what he's done in the past. He likes 2 runners and one passer. (Of course that's over simplified.)

But i can't imagine seeing DDR deployed as the passer and Takki one of the runners. Given that Pjanic is already at best a 50/50 passer/runner.

Which is why i think Pjanic and Totti right next to each other is problematic. Totti needs to tuck inside or the man behind him should be crashing the box constantly pulling defenders away from the CF (Ozzy who also shades left naturally).

If Destro plays RF then hopefully all those guys shading left allow Destro to play in the box in front of goal where i think he is best. Add Florenzi running at goal and Balzaretti coming up the wing, maybe ZZ will get his stated goal of having more men in the box than their are defenders to cover them.
