Maicon out, Cassano in

Antonio Cassano is in the Inter squad travelling to Pescara on Sunday, but Douglas Maicon and Rodrigo Palacio miss out.

The Nerazzurri begin their Serie A season at the Stadio Adriatico tomorrow evening, click here for a match preview.

New buy Cassano is included in the list of players just days after completing his transfer from Milan.

Palacio sits out a ban, while Maicon is left behind, fuelling reports of negotiations with Real Madrid.

Injured players include Samir Handanovic, Cristian Chivu, Dejan Stankovic, Ricky Alvarez, Joel Obi, MacDonald Mariga and Gaby Mudingayi.

Bravo nel far partire l’azione e quindi ad agire dai playmaker basso davanti alla difesa si fa apprezzare anche nelle incursioni nell’area avversaria. Per scelta di tempo e per la forte personalità assomiglia proprio al primo Marchisio, quando prima dell’avvento di Antonio Conte in panchina occupava qualsiasi ruolo della mediana con tanta personalità. Cresciuto nel Brøndby, Patrick Olsen è già un punto di riferimento delle giovanili danesi dove ricopre il ruolo di capitano e di leader carismatico in campo.

Viene apprezzato anche dai quotidiani il blitz dell'Inter per assicurarsi Patrick Olsen. Il giovane centrocampista danese, classe 1994, è stato preso con un solo giorno di trattative e il merito è di Pierluigi Casiraghi, un vero guru tra gli osservatori: "Pierluigi Casiraghi, celebre scopritore di talenti della società di corso Vittorio Emanuele, ha prima visionato e poi preso Patrick Olsen, centrocampista danese classe 1994 del Brondby, ritenuto tra i migliori centrocampisti offensivi d'Europa per la sua età", scrive il Corriere dello Sport.

Inter impress boss Stramaccioni

Inter boss Andrea Stramaccioni was delighted with the win at Pescara – but was keen to keep his feet on the ground.

A much-changed Nerazzurri started their Serie A campaign last night with a comfortable 3-0 win at the Stadio Adriatico.

“It was a good start, but we know that we still need to improve in certain areas,” the former Roma youth team tactician noted.

“It's good that we've followed up Thursday's performance in the Europa League with another decent one tonight.

“A team that takes a 2-0 lead into the dressing room at half-time at a difficult ground is a sign of strength.”

Not only was the young Coach happy with the result, but he was delighted with the way it was manufactured.

“Our quality comes through when we move the ball around,” he added. “It was a good start but there's a long way to go. We have to keep our feet on the ground.”

Amongst the new faces in the Inter line-up was Antonio Cassano, the signing from Milan who played close to 70 minutes.

“I decided that he would be in the starting XI after the first training session. I wanted to play with two strikers and an attacking midfielder.

“He repaid my faith with his performance.”

Longo on his way to Espanyol

Samuele Longo has confirmed whispers that he will be spending the season on loan at Espanyol from Inter.

“Finally today I depart!” a note on his Twitter account read. “I can't wait to start this new adventure. Vamos periquitos!”

The forward is highly rated by the Beneamata and he was signed outright from Genoa in the summer after helping Inter’s youth team win the NextGen series earlier this year.

Longo, 20, is an Italian Under-21 international who Inter hope will benefit from regular first team football this term.

Inter loaned Espanyol Philippe Coutinho in January and he has now returned to San Siro after shining in the Spanish game.

First game was ok. There were glimpses of good play. I like the fact that we have gifted and talented players in that part of the pitch that know how to play the ball ... Sneijder, Palacio, Cassano and our two most promising youngsters Cou and Alvarez. Milito will get plenty of goal opportunities this season. Guarin is a complete mfder. I think that he will become a pillar in our mf. Not convinced 100% on Gargano though it was not a bad game. Silvestre looked a bit shaky though.

A big thankyou to JC. He will always be in our hearts and his place in Inter history is gauranteed. Its a sad day to see him leave

I'm hoping that at this point Maicon will stay and that we find a good reserve for when Milito has to rest. Then I think we will have a good team to challenge for a CL spot.

MILAN - He's one of Inter's greatest ever goalkeepers. Seven seasons, 300 games, a host of legendary saves and that incredible energy and character of his: Julio Cesar was this and much more in Nerazzurri colours.

Thank you Julio, for battling by our side, for taking on Italy, Europe and the world, for screaming with joy - that unmistakeable gesture you made when the final whistle blew and you had kept another clean sheet for us. Thank you for protecting us on the pitch, and off it too at times.

You'll be 33 soon, on 3 September. Happy birthday, dreamcatcher, and best of luck from everyone here at Inter!

Maicon and Cassano face Vaslui

Douglas Maicon is in the Inter squad to face Vaslui in the Europa League play-off, joined by Antonio Cassano.

There were reports Maicon would be left out due to his potential transfer away from the Nerazzurri this summer.

However, the Brazilian has been named in Andrea Stramaccioni’s squad for the Thursday evening second leg at San Siro.

New signing Cassano is also included after making his Serie A debut for the side against Pescara, but Walter Gargano is part of an injury crisis in midfield.

Moratti: 'Maicon is leaving Inter'

President Massimo Moratti has confirmed Douglas Maicon is leaving for Manchester City tonight. “Inter will always be home to Maicon and Julio Cesar.”

The goalkeeper has already terminated his contract by mutual consent and signed a new four-year deal with QPR.

He fought back tears this evening as he saluted the fans at San Siro before kick-off in the Europa League play-off with Vaslui.

Maicon is not even on the bench, though, and Moratti admitted the Brazilian had played his last Nerazzurri match.

“I already saluted them both. It is sad to see them go, but also a motivation for them to do well elsewhere,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We care about them and Inter will always be home to Maicon and Julio Cesar.”

Maicon is expected to complete his transfer to Manchester City for €4m tomorrow.
