Stramaccioni focused on Europe

Inter boss Andrea Stramaccioni seems happy with the Serie A fixtures, but he insists that the focus right now is on the Europa League.

“It will be an interesting start,” he stated to the club’s website after the Nerazzurri were drawn to play Pescara, Roma and Torino in the first three weeks of the season.

“We have two away matches in two stadiums that will be all charged up thanks to their deserved returns to Serie A football.

“Then in between there's the first match at the San Siro when we face Roma.

“As for now we're only thinking of the Europa League, but we'll certainly be ready for the start of the League season that looks to be very fascinating.”

The Beneamata are currently preparing for their Europa League qualifiers against Hajduk Split on August 2 and 9.

Castaignos confirms Twente move

Luc Castaignos has confirmed he “signed a four-year contract” with FC Twente, handing Inter €6m.

The Dutch striker spent only a year in Serie A and failed to make an impact, so is returning to Holland.

“I am going from Inter to Twente for €6m,” he told FCInterNews. “I signed a four-year contract, but I would prefer for the financial details to remain private.

“I came to Inter in order to show who Luc Castaignos really was and what I am capable of on a football field, but had very few opportunities to do that.

“In any case, I hope this year can be better for the Nerazzurri, because they do not deserve to experience another season like that.

“I chose Twente because I wanted to join a team where I knew I’d have a better chance of playing and improving.”

Inter snatch Celtic draw

A late Rodrigo Palacio strike earned Inter a 1-1 draw with Celtic in today’s pre-season friendly in Glasgow.

The Nerazzurri begin their campaign on August 2 with the first leg of the Europa League preliminary round against Hajduk Split, while Celtic also begin their SPL campaign next week.

Celtic had the brighter start and went close with Mulgrew’s header and a Samir Handanovic save on Stokes.

Inter’s first real danger came after half an hour when Diego Milito and Wesley Sneijder combined for Philippe Coutinho to blast over the bar.

Just before the break Celtic got their deserved opener, as Mulgrew’s free kick found Kris Commons for a smart left-foot shot that looped over Handanovic.

In the second half Yuto Nagatomo took over at right-back, moving Javier Zanetti into midfield.

Sneijder, Milito and substitute Palacio had some lovely one-touch football and the move concluded with the Dutchman’s finish deflected out for a corner.

Cristian Chivu nodded over the bar and the goalkeeper closed down Milito, while there were penalty appeals for a last-ditch Irvine tackle on Esteban Cambiasso.

Commons had to leave the field due to an injury at the 82nd minute, so Celtic were forced to play with 10 men, as all their substitutions had already been completed.

Inter took advantage and poured forward. Milito went close from a long Fredy Guarin pass, but just failed to latch on, while Forster parried a Chivu left-foot screamer.

In the final minute the Nerazzurri snatched their equaliser at Celtic Park. Milito’s shot was parried, but put back into the middle by Livaja for Palacio to tap in.

A really bad performance yesterday.. Jesus, why does every coach we have, have to always play Cambiasso & Zanetti? It seems like there's no Inter without these 2...I don't want to say anything against their contribution over the years, but now they're a handicap to the team. Incredibly enough, Cambiasso is even more of a handicap than the 39 year old Zanetti..We really seem to be playing with 10 men when Cambiasso's in there..static, no movement whatsoever and Guarin has to limit his offensive movements to cover for his staticity...
I just don't get it. I understand we have few midfielders right now, but I'm afraid this wont change even if we have more..

Julio Cesar to end Inter contract?

Julio Cesar is reportedly prepared to terminate his contract with Inter so that he can join Roma on a free transfer.

The goalkeeper is not a part of the Nerazzurri’s plans for this season and was dropped from the UEFA squad list for the Europa League preliminary round against Hajduk Split.

Julio Cesar has long been linked with a move to Roma, but his wages on top of a transfer fee are proving to be a problem.

According to Sky Sport Italia, negotiations are currently underway between his agents and Inter to agree a mutual termination of the contract.

It’s a similar deal to the one that saw Lucio leave the Nerazzurri to join Juventus on a free transfer.

On paper this may seem like a bad deal for Inter, but the weight of their wages surpass any transfer fee that would come in.

There was talk Tottenham and Arsenal might have gone for JC but it looks like they may have been waiting for something like this to happen and jump in ahead of Roma with a better wage offer. As much as I hate seeing talent leave the Serie A, do we really want to face Roma with JC in goals?

No Briz I aint taking these friendlies much into consideration. I barely manage to watch a full friendly, especially the last 30-20 mins when there are more primavera than senior players.
It's that damn Cambiasso...do you think coaches get intimidated by the Argentine clan about playing Zanetti & Cambiasso no matter what?
Let's hope talks about Porto's Fernando are true. At least he would make a valid contender to our Argentine Buddha..

Castaignos completes Twente switch

After just one year together, Inter have officially sold young Dutch striker Luc Castaignos to FC Twente today.

Castaignos’ revealed the completion of his move back to his native country over the weekend, which has now been confirmed by Twente, who presented him to the media today.

The 19-year-old, who scored once in Serie A for Inter last term, moves on an initial €6m deal that is expected to rise depending on future bonuses.

The former Feyenoord forward had been on the look-out for a new club since the beginning of the summer, when he revealed that his stay in Italy was coming to an end.

“I’m proud to be here, I want to give my best to win,” the youngster said today.

“At Inter, in Italy, I missed that feeling of joy for playing football. I had did not have fun at the club. After one year there was no more confidence from Inter in my ability, even previously after wanting me.

“When I spoke to the directors I realised that the belief was over. But I still learned a lot at Inter.”

Julio Cesar has confirmed that he is on the verge of leaving Inter after being frozen out of the club’s plans. The Brazilian still has two years left to run on his contract, but the outfit have made it clear that he is no longer wanted after the capture of Udinese ‘keeper Samir Handanovic.

“They have been seven beautiful and successful years, but, in a few days, my adventure in the Inter shirt will end,” he wrote on his Facebook page. “I would like to thank all of you fans for the support you have given me and I hope you have a lot more success to enjoy.”

The South American was netted by Inter in January 2005 from Flamengo. After an initial six-month loan spell at Chievo, he returned to the Meazza and eventually replaced Francesco Toldo as the No 1.

It’s unclear at the moment whether Julio Cesar will have his contract rescinded or whether Inter can find a buyer for him. The almost 33-year-old could now move to England, perhaps Tottenham, or possibly back to his homeland in Brazil.
