Is Bradley going to play as a mezz'ala? I see him as more of a mediano, as cover for DDR, but I suppose he can play mezz'ala too as he does have a good engine on him. Technically I don't think he's as good as Greco or Simplicio, but as an all round midfielder taking in all aspects of a mezz'ala he probably does excel above them due to his work rate and defensive capabilities. Still, as a mezz'ala, he's definitely below Pjanic, Marquinho, Florenzi and possibly even Tachtsidis. He'd be a good option off the bench. Just like Brighi was.

Rosi is lacking a few football brains alright, and his decision making is poor at best, but for sheer athleticism and mobility he is a good fit for Zeman's system, if not as a first choice right-back.

I think the Greeek (In passport, not name) may be in his plans for the Verratti role. Not sure a true DMF / Mediano position really exists in ZZs tactics.

No, I think initially he said something like he didn't see DDR as a mediano, but later he went on to clarify. In fact, here are his comments:

"I didn't say that he couldn't play as a mediano. De Rossi isn't a regista in the form of [Andrea] Pirlo, but he can play in any midfield role. As a mediano he would give balance. We will see where I play him, it will depend on the squad I have at my disposal. Having a player providing balance in the middle means I can also have technical interni. In my midfield at Foggia I had a mediano who broke up play and two technical players like [Onofrio] Barone and [Igor] Shalimov. I don't see [Miralem Pjanic] as a deep mediano but rather as an interno. Maybe I'll try him and I'll like him as a full back. I don't think I will but anything could happen.

Like most things this early into a season, nothing is really set in stone, and he won't really know who's playing where until closer to the season. Riscone would give him a better idea, but of course he hasn't had DDR there to play. At this stage its more about fitness and evaluating the players, but the friendlies in the US should give us a better idea.

And I agree on Bradley. I've seen him play for 4-5 years now and I think he's more Thiago Motta than DDR. He is a very well rounded player but he's less efficient than DDR in his movements. Where DDR seemingly finds himself in the right spot at the right time Motta and Bradley can be seen running there.

To be clear, I don't think he will be as good as T.Motta but stylistically similiar.

And hilarious comments ref. Rosi. I would love to have Rosi as a backup player. I've never seen him as impactfull as his physical gifts would sugges he should be.. But I've never been able to "dislike" him as some do, because he does work hard. Like a chicken with his head cut off at times.

Ha, headless chicken, yeh thats a good nickname for Rosi alright. But he's also a homegrown chicken, too, which is important.

Also, on DDR and if he'll play as mediano or interni/mezz'ala and the calls to see him playing further up the pitch like he did for the Azzurri, I say, fuck that, no way jose (enrique), not for me. Even if Zeman won't play a true mediano (although I think he surely will) and goes with three central-midfielders, someone will still be playing in the centre and closer to the centre-backs, and there is only one position for DDR, and that is a ball-busting, harassing, all-combative bearded maniac playing in front of the defence. His ability to read a game and be in a position to snuff out an attack before it starts is just too valuable to waste with him being further up the pitch just so he can score a few goals. In many ways, as much as LE's system was flawed, it was also a perfect system for DDR. He is a defensive monster, true and true, and I can't see how Zeman could play him elsewhere.

Been away for 10 days with very little internet access, just read through everything I've missed here.

Sad to see Borini and Juan leave. Juan was always going to go back to Brazil in the end but it's still a shame in any case, been very good on the whole over the past five years. Borini is an odd one, I'd have definitely kept him.

So we've signed Bradley and Castan? Bradley will be okay I think, hopefully Castan will be solid, goes without saying that we need a top drawer CB. Any developments with the right back from Sao Paulo, or Destro?

Castan aint official yet i don't think, but he's ours alright. We're supposedly close to signing Piris, Paraguayan right back from San Paolo, but we've heard all that before. I'm surprised we're not making more an effort for Debuchy, he's said again that he wants to leave and go to a new league, and I can't see why we wouldn't attract him ahead of the mighty Newcastle. Perhaps we're not willing to spend that much – say around €10m – on him, and go for a cheaper option (a loan deal with an option to buy) which is a bit shitty.
