Of course I'll wait to see what happens, how we play, how the new guy plays, etc., (oh yeah, and if we buy him outright and keep him) it's just that I was stating why I could see being grumpy. I'm seeing glass half empty more than half full. Maybe I should get a drink!

Also, (another issue) I'm seeing a lack of guys in their prime. De Rossi and ... Osvaldo, I guess? Is that it? I see why Totti's frustrated -- even if these youngsters come through with their promise, where will Totti be by then?

The management can't say this but I can. Last year set us back by a year. For me (the way I understand the intended direction of the project by owners and management), the goal last year was to build a solid, young nucleus, get back to EL, give the kiddies a little European experience, add a reinforcement or two this year and get into the CL zone this year so that in the '13-'14 season, we can be competing in the CL and by the '14-'15 season we can be competing for the scudetto and CL. I liked and embraced that plan. Losing out on an EL spot hurt us because we (fans, players, management) all got a little less patient and lost a little faith AND it made it harder to get our desired reinforcements because A) we have a bit less money and B) we have less to offer players (i.e. no Europe).

As such, we have to go with what we can offer...and 1 thing that is for a young player (like Destro) to work with Zeman. The way I see it is if (big IF), we can get to 3rd place this year and earn CL for the '13-'14 season, the project is right back on track. Think about it....we
d be doing it with mostly 20-25 year old players who are just going to get better and better. We won't need to sell them because we'll be making profits from stadium, merchandising, etc. If we can build something THIS way, we can sustain it for a very long stretch. THAT is what this project is about. Zeman's job is to get us back on track and get us to the CL, NOT to be a caretaker to make the fans forget about the project. Sabatini's job is to build that solid, young core that can sustain the project for a LONG time. This is why he's spending time and money getting players like Nico Lopez, Lucca, that new primavera keeper, etc. THIS is the plan. So far, I think we had a setback by not making EL for this year, but other than that, I see some positive movement in the right direction. If we make CL this year, we're right back on track. If we make EL, we're a year behind. If we miss out on EL again, the project is in serious trouble. That's my view.

DC, listen. I have no doubt about your allegiance to Roma, the city, and the fan base. I am not in the habit of pulling out the Roma credentials because it is not productive. Everybody here has the same desire and goal. I am of a bygone day. Is it a sin to ask for an Italian/Roma presence on this squad. Is it a problem to promote Italian youth. Is it a problem to keep the connection between fans and players? Am am out of line to ask for some kind of organizational stability. Give me a plan and a goal. Give me a little perspective. Nobody wants to win more than me because I have seen too much disappointment over the last 40 years. My view is that we are on a ship without a captain and this ownership is in over its head. It may take some time to adjust to European sports but I cannot assess from where I sit the direction we are taking at this time. My friends here will indulge me for a moment.

Roma is not only about football. It is about family, friendship and neighborhood. It is more than just a game to us.

Sad to see Juan ago alright. Always was a great defender for us, could have been a legend if it wasn't for the cursed ginocchia. I'm surprised he has left now; he always said he wanted to stay until the end of his contract (2013), and I think we really could have done with him this season. Presumably Burdisso-Castan will be our starting centre-backs (unless we bring in another defender? I'd still want Ogbonna), but Juan certainly could have played a part as back-up. He might be a bit slow for Zeman's tactics but he still has the experience.

What did gayhair Borriello do, storm off?

Bradley? The is ours now. He'll be a useful squad/back-up player, I suppose, but lets not get carried away here.

Sky we've reached a deal with San Paolo for Ivan Piris, Paraguayan right full-back. Also rumours that we still want Jung as well as Piris, and that Rosi will be moved on, which I think would be a big surprise, as even if he's not starting material, he'd be a good back-up and fits Zeman's tactics nicely.
